Contemporary / British English It is 1954 and Kabuo Miyamoto is on trial for murder. He is a Japanese American living on the island of San Piedro, off the north-west coast of America. The Second World War has left an atmosphere of anger and suspicion in this small community. Will Kabuo receive a fair trial? And will the true cause of the victim's death be discovered?
I liked the setting, characters, and mystery of this book. I'm reading it with two sec 1 students and it's great for checking understanding and making predictions. The character development is excellent. It covers the subjects of love, war, patriotism, and racism.
It was an enjoyable book that was easy to read with interesting characters. The story progressed well and unveiled the trial in such a way that it kept my attention.
