Sumi Eno really gave us this decrepit world ravaged by violent gods but then said what if god was just a child as capable of change and goodness as humans are because, after all, isn’t it their first attempt at living as well? *sobs*

As of this volume I'm officially emotionally invested in at least the character of Tokinaga. My heart broke for him here, and I just want him to be okay.

Obikawa is also growing to be a favorite, though more morally questionable character. He serves as a starting point for some interesting conversations about gods vs humans within this world.

The art continues to be gorgeously detailed, and I'm looking forward to more.

Okay, yeah. This series isn’t for me.

So… I don’t care for the characters, at all. I thought by the third volume they would grow on me a little more, but for some reason Eno decided to put all the focus on characters I don’t really know or care about - Waka gets backseated for Tokinaga having sad boy hours and Obikawa, who feels like the biggest poorly-done Chainsaw Man rip-off character I’ve ever seen. Eno seems to be trying to make him like a ‘loveable dumbass’ kind of character just like Denji or Power, but he only comes off as annoying. Plus, he hasn’t been given any character moments to make him actually endearing - possibly because Eno doesn’t quite know how to write those types of characters, or possibly because Eno’s pacing is all over the place and these ‘big reveals’ keep happening when I just don’t care about the characters - which just negates any of the emotion I get from these moments.

Also, there’s no real power system or power set in place for all the characters for some reason? Which just makes every fight ‘oh, they can do that? Okay.’ for me. Which is boring - because there’s no stakes!

Look, this had potential at the start, and the art’s nice at least - but Eno clearly has no idea how to introduce and develop these characters with the audience properly, at least in my opinion. This volume I was quickly flipping through the last few chapters because of how unattached I was to everything and everyone involved, and that’s how I knew I was done. Sorry fans of this series, I tried…

Thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media for the ARC.

It goes to show that you can't trust anyone. Not yourself, not your eyes, not the god living in your eyes. We also see that no one is safe in this series, which kinda fits the vibes. I like the direction this is going in, I'm kinda understanding the plot again, and the art is still good.

Menuda pasada. 🔥

Oh my god.
That was my reaction every few pages.
So many twists and new information. This was truly awesome to read!

//CONTENT SPOILER WARNING//

I was not prepared for any of this. I mean I guess we had Obikawa foreshadowing. I was a little prepared for this, just a bit.

But Tokinaga lore??
Obikawa twist??
Obikawa eating Yoriko's damn unborn child??
Obikawa facing Tokinaga??
Obikawa turing into Akio??

That was a feast to read!

The thought of god's just being another, stronger kind of human being is really sweet. They're just as childish as we are and they love just as we do, but humans hate them. And the god's hatred only is normal as a reaction. Humans invaded their space after all.
Seeing all this being introduced to us by tearing apart Tokinaga's heart makes me want to sob. This poor man in a vet, someone protect him from this world please. Don't hurt him no more.

Also, Tokinaga absolutely devoured in this volume. I have to take pictures of his panels to express my love for him throughoutly. I don't wanna agree to marriage if it's not with him... 3

Gods have descended upon Tokyo, reducing the entire city to an uninhabitable danger zone. When a young girl by the name of Waka peers through the fence surrounding the zone, she is approached by a wary researcher named Tokinaga. Waka claims that she's come all the way from Saga in order to find a friend, but when the two are suddenly met by a superpowered woman named Yon Uzuki, Waka unleashes a terrifying and unexpected power. Yon realizes that Waka's eyes are like a god's-what secrets is she hiding behind them?

Then, after being kidnapped by Yon and her associate Yakou, Waka comes face-to-face with a god who tells Waka that she has a god living inside her-one that she has absolutely no control over...

#IPO: the official name for gods. Short for Idolatry Prohibited Organism.

Purchased on a whim whilst in London, I have the first three volumes of this relatively new and ongoing series. The premise is simple, Gods have appeared and are blighting the World. They have the ability to kill with a single glance and areas they have 'infection' are quarantined off for everyone's safety.

The two volumes were fast paced and far too frantic. This volume continues the trend whilst also jumping around in time. However, the story also ramps up with betrayals, heavy loses, and revelations about the IPOs. The talking cat, a hybrid creature, adds comic relief and overall there is still enough to keep me intrigued. I won't be rushing out for Volume 4 but I will look to add it to a 3-for-2 offer in the future. 3 1/2 stars

Beautiful artwork as usual. Eno does a good job at naturally revealing insight into the gods' behaviors; it's blended into the story well and doesn't feel like info-dumping or overuse of narration. I liked seeing how intelligent and composed Yoriko is when under threat, but I do hope to see just a little more downtime in between the action so the side characters are better fleshed out.

The action continues in volume 3 as Waka escapes her kidnappers and the Institute is attacked again. There is an interesting cadence of action, falling action, back to rising action in this volume. As the characters grapple with their losses, there is a lull in the general fast pace of the series that gives the reader (and characters) a moment to breathe before the next disaster. I think the volume's use of that low point highlights character relationships and motivations that build the foundation for the action to come.

Overall, this was a good volume, and I look forward to reading the next.

So in the aftermath of… whatever happened in the last volume, a lot of Anti-God Research members are dead and the question finally gets raised of “How did they know Waka was going to be at the train station at that exact time?”

Secrets are revealed, a bit about the nature of gods is uncovered, and a very disturbing scene plays out in the underground… and it didn’t stay there.

This is MESSED up. But, in a very aesthetic and—possibly—queer(?) way?

The art is INCREDIBLE and the characters are growing on me—especially Tokinaga.

I’m very interested in knowing more about this world, the gods who walk it, and the humans who seem to have an innate ability to reshape these gods.

What a cool idea for a story~

Omggg, this volume made me feel so many emotions!!!! Obikawa and Tokinaga aaaa😆😢😆😢 I just can’t, all the characters in the story I love. I don’t really understand why people are confused with the story. I feel it’s pretty straightforward. Yes, there are some unknown information or stuff needs explaining, but like once you continue reading the story, you’ll start to understand.
