Elizabeth Mason has always been a governess but never for a household as large or as strange as the one at Blakewood Manor. Upon her arrival, she soon finds that her beautiful new home is owned by a family of vampires. Despite her fears, she falls for two of the mysterious men that reside there. But as she begins to unravel their darker secrets, she becomes a weakness to them both and threatens their safety and the very foundation that Blakewood is built upon.
Sable Grey resides in the deep south of the United States with her wonderful husband, very spoiled dog, and three crazy cats. She spends her time researching her genealogy, designing cover art, watching movies, and reading.
With favorite authors like Stephen King, Piers Anthony, and Iris Johansen, it's no mystery where the inspiration to write tales of love, adventure, and mystery come from. An avid reader and storyteller at a young age, Sable began writing small stories as a child for her mother. However, it wasn't until she was well in to her twenties that she realized that her calling was sharing her stories with a larger audience than just family members and friends.
Now, Sable is dedicated to her craft and to bringing her readers quality fiction with unforgettable characters. For her, writing a story means writing a story meant to touch the mind, body, heart, and soul.
“You are the governess, Elizabeth Mason, I presume.”
Elizabeth Mason is the new governess at Blakewood, but this stately ole' English manor house has secrets aplenty, from the men of the household to the women kept in the mysterious West Wing to *service* them,
"Dark hair swirled across his deep chest and crawled down the ridges of his abdomen into a nest from which his manhood boldly stood. That thick stalk held my attention and, for a moment, I marveled at the ridge and shape."
Since part of the big secret is in the book description I'll mention it here - Vampires!
Shades of Twilight and all, I really could have gotten into a dark, gothic-y vampire novel with lots of spooks and things that go bump in the night (have I not been lapping up the old Dark Shadows series this last year like a cat with a bowl of cream?), but this one just doesn't work. The vampire tricks are bordering on laugh out loud silly,
"She would have scrambled from atop me, but I pushed off from the ground to hover about six feet from the earth. Her legs dangled over either side of my body, and her hands tightened on my shoulders as she righted herself to keep from crushing my ribs."
There was some kind of sensual fog thingy that I forgot to copy. My bad. Then there's Elizabeth's calm acceptance of said vampires,
“I’m a vampire. You already know that. Now that you do…” he said, holding out a hand, “let’s have some fun shall we?”
For that split moment, fear found me. I’d never lain with a man before. And he wasn't just a man. He was a vampire.
"His being a vampire attracts women anyway. He doesn't want that to be the only reason you long for him.”
Honestly, this was one of those stories that felt like it was put together just for the reason of writing sex, and that would be sex without any real romance or chemistry between the characters. The writing had potential, and I thought the first part with Elizabeth's narrative went fairly well despite my issues with the story, but the second half where the narrative changed to that of the two alter egos I was completely lost - I couldn't keep track of who was speaking when. There are also some rather odd typos here and there that could use the attention of an editor. Mrs. Loman was "Ms." Loman on at least two occasions that I spotted. Had to stop and double check to make sure it was a historical setting after all.

I gave this 3 and half Stars. I hadn't read the blurb for this book and thought the novel was a normal historical story. It turned out to be about vampires! I liked the surprise. The story was slightly unusual and kept my interest. The love scenes were spicy but I did want the heroine to do the immoral thing and sleep with the sexy 'brother'. I had also hoped for a little more from the father, but all-in-all an entertaining read.
I enjoyed this one a lot. A very Jane Eyre-ish vibe to it in the beginning - a governess going to new position in a mysterious house. The 1st person POV worked even though I usually don't like that. Great read!

This was so good! I was expecting just another historical romance so the paranormal aspects were a surprise. It's a dark, deliciously gothic tale and pulls you in right away. I actually wished it was even longer.
Interesting book with a new twist, I enjoyed the story but had a hard time figuring out whose head we were in as the 1st person POV changed. I think this one would have been far better in 3rd person. But that is just me.

Immediately upon opening this novel I was quickly pulled into the story. The author has a very excellent way of grabbing the reader’s attention. This immediately begins my rating at a 9. Let’s see where we go from there…
Elizabeth is a confident, headstrong woman who knows what she wants. She has expectations (even if they are somewhat…this is all I’ll get and I’ll be satisfied with it kind of feel to it) She goes into this new job as a governess and accepts her role immediately. However there are odd things, unique person’s who she can’t help but be curious about.
She meets two men, very different from each other and yet there is a very intense connection between the two that she just can’t seem to understand or shake. Of course, with all the thrills of ‘two guys and a girl’ story lines, this is very much that storyline.
However, the author adds her very own distinctive take on it and I must confess…it was very very different. Something I wasn’t at all expecting. That brave ability to attempt something new and to pull it off, not perfectly but still pretty damn good, warrants some decent marks as well.
I liked the passion in play and I appreciated that it didn’t fall over the edge and into the realm of erotica. Close….but not quite there. At least not in my opinion.
I felt the author did a decent job adding climax in her story (not sexual, duh!) LOL. I’m talking storyline and plot and climax. It was entertaining and I can’t say that I felt the desire to put it down for too long and I never forgot that I was reading it, even during the busyness of my life happening. She held my attention for the duration.
I would say there were some small scenes that almost bored me, very very few and the author pulled me back in quite effectively and with good timing. So Kudos to her on that.
Historical English romance with a rich owner that has a health condition which hides that he is a split personality vampire. Romance with the owner and the newly hired governess who strangely quickly becomes his lover without the usual recriminations and loss of reputation which should have been stinking up the place if it has been historically correct. The split personality, Marcus was a sassy strong willed free-loving vampire unlike his alter-persona Lesander. Cute story with a smart and strong heroine. 200ish pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
