I wish someday someone would publish an anthology of the best masturbation chapters from Christian self-help books. Especially the ones aimed at teenagers. Worried about losing control in the shower? Just shower with the door open so your sisters can keep an eye on you. Impure thoughts invading your daydreams? Try to picture Christ (half-naked, caked with blood and sweat sodirtydirtydirty)on the cross instead. Can't keep your hands off of yourself? Here's some instructions (with diagrams) of how to tie your hands up before you sleep. Who knew auto-erotic bondage was a stop on the path to sexual purity? Next time you hear of some preacher/conservative congressman who's been caught in some freaky-deaky sex scandal just remember that they have instruction manuals for this stuff.

Using Paul's epistle to the Colossians as a sounding board, Fritz Ridenour presents Christianity to the the youth of the 1970s as they came of age. Obviously incredibly dated in terms of its vernacular and cultural analysis. At the same time, it's encouraging to read people who sought to be intentional in passing on the baton to the next generation. The interaction with and critique of naturalism is more relevant than ever.

Richard's review (the only other review of this book at the time I enter mine) is a hoot, and he is not wrong! I probably did read this because I was trying to be a good Christian but had recently discovered "self abuse".
