Chaga: King of the Medicinal Mushrooms

Rate this book
Taking the counsel of Hippocrates—"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food"—acclaimed author David Wolfe brings the wisdom of eating herbal medicine to today's health-conscious readers. His enthusiastic fan base, which includes celebrities such as Woody Harrelson and Angela Bassett, continues to blossom as more and more people realize the healing and immunity-boosting properties of raw and medicinal foods.

In Chaga, Wolfe presents the many virtues of medicinal mushrooms, which boost immunity, stave off allergies and asthma, help fight against cancer, and generally improve core vitality. But the star of the book is chaga—"the king of the mushrooms"—which holds the greatest storehouse of medicinal properties of any mushroom species.

In addition to exploring the extraordinary history, lore, scientific research, and future of this potent healing mushroom, Wolfe provides readers with recipes for teas, soups, fermentations, and tinctures—as well as tips on how to obtain quality chaga products. Other mushrooms are also discussed, such as the fabled queen of the medicinal mushrooms, reishi—which promotes a healthy immune system—and the cordyceps—which fights fatigue, improves endurance, increases lung capacity, and more.

The wealth of wisdom, research, recipes, and advice will enlighten and satisfy Wolfe's fans, as well as any reader curious about natural ways to improve health and promote healing.

This is a terrible book with vague science about what is a truly interesting mushroom. There is much self-aggrandizement and false information (stating certain foods and objects are “magic”), and it is a tough book to get through due to the author’s attitude of trying to sound like an expert.

This is a great book on an amazing herb. It's likely the best book on the subject. It's fast, easy pleasurable read. It is all easy to understand but also includes some details on the science of chaga involving the constituents in it, which I really liked. Read this book and start using this amazing substance regularly!

Good source of information on chaga mushrooms and its health benefits, but it needs more data and researched based support. Great book overall though.

I work at an outdoor ed centre and a family member of mine has a uncurable form i cancer. Naturally, when I heard about Chaga at work I a) started researching it, and b) started bringing some home and brewing it up. When I heard of Wolfe's book I was ecstatic...then I got a copy. What a let down. I gave two stars simply because the book does contain valid information on chaga (in that it is in agreement with many other soruces that ive seen)....but this information is hidden amongst the author's incessant babble. He goes on about how he meditates, there are pictures of him looking all 'badass' harvesting Chaga in his poncho. One of the images of a mushroom in the book is terribly, blatantly photoshopped! Reading this book felt like I was watching an infomercial on Chaga. Do yourself a favour, skip it and do your research online.

I picked up this book after purchasing some chaga. I've heard many good things about the mushroom and wanted to learn more. This book has a lot of information packed into it. There was also a lot of scientific information that was way over my head. But, that did not interfere with the quality of information given. I highly suggest this book if you have any interest in chaga.

Maybe I would give this four stars in thd future, but finishing this book pretty fast I kinda expected more bang for my buck. I think. But it was very informative and educational. I'll definitely be leaving through this again when curiousity and questions arise...
