Alyssa Satin Capucilli was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1957. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, and pursued her interest in dance, becoming a professional dancer and dance instructor. Though Capucilli had written stories, poems, and even puppet shows as a child, she didn't consider a career as a writer until after her own two children were born. To this day she sees herself as both a dancer and a writer, and the two professions complement each other nicely: dancing is, in her words, “telling stories in another way,” and readers of her children's books can attest to the rhythm of her language. Since 1994, she has written more than 15 books for children, and her work has been translated into French, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Greek, and Bulgarian.

Capucilli lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with her husband and children. They have a chocolate Labrador retriever named Huckleberry, who likes to watch the author at work.

Adorable easy/early reading- my 2.5 month old just loves being read to and liking at the pictures. He smiled and giggle the whole way through. Can’t wait to reshare with him when he’s older

Oh how much cuteness can you pack into one little early reader book! These monkeys are full of curiosity and mischief as many monkeys are. We have not yet read Bear Hugs or Panda Kisses, but we have read Alyssa’s many Biscuit stories and love them, so it is no surprise that Monkey Play is a big hit with this mama and preschool early reader. Fun rhymes and a great rhythm on every page make an adventure possible with these monkeys from the trees through the village and on into the Zoo. I’m certain this is going on our wishlist to buy for our own shelf!

The illustrations in the book were well done. They made the monkeys look friendly with oversized faces. The activities they were shown doing were fun from dressing up in fancy shoes to dancing with other animal friends. There was no real lesson to the book but not all books need one!

Monyet-monyet itu sangat lincah. Sangat aktif. Macam-macam kegiatan mereka. Suka nakal juga. Tapi mereka paling senang berteman. Beramai-ramai bermain bersama teman-teman. Sesama monyet dan bukan monyet :D.

Cute and accessible rhyming book for early readers. Nice picture support for some of the trickier words.

Reading Time

My grandbaby enjoyed this book, reading time is her favorite.
She liked the counting but the rhyming really caught her attention.
