What a great book! Exhaustive and authoritative. Ladd traces all the branches of the Special Forces tree, from the original Commando Independent companies, to the Special Boat Service, with EVERYTHING in between. All allied formations are discussed, even the smaller ones in the Pacific. And while most books fail on the maps/illustrations front, this does NOT. Tonnes of excellent diagrams and especially maps! This is the book that every military enthusiast/wargamer/modeller must have for investigating this era. I simply cannot rate this book highly enough. Read it! This is a great book for any age of reader, and will be a book that stays on reference shelves for years to come!
