This is the first story in the Arthur universe from D. W.'s perspective I read. It was cute. It's a great beach story for this year's non-existent summer season. Covid is going to be difficult in summer. There's not even movies to go too.

The family has gone to the beach for the day and D. W. doesn't want to be there. She doesn't want to go in the water and she is complaining ever minute to go home. I've heard that before and the kid like that can really spoil the day. Arthur gets her in the water and of course she loves it and doesn't want to go home.

Thank goodness for Openlibrary where I was able to get this book. I picked it for being published in 1988. That year needs some help so I'm looking for 1988 books.

This is too beginner for the kids.

After I read “D.W. the Picky Eater,” I got even more interested in Marc Brown’s “D.W.” series since I am a huge fan of his “Arthur” series and I wanted to get into the “D.W.” series as well! So, when I finally got around to reading “D.W. All Wet,” I was pleasantly surprised by the simplistic yet hilarious storytelling of this book!

The story starts off with Arthur’s family going off to the beach for a nice vacation, but D.W. was complaining about not wanting to go to the beach because she did not want to get wet. Even though her family enjoyed swimming in the ocean, D.W. still refused to go out into the ocean for a swim. A few moments later, Arthur was planning on going for a walk and D.W. wanted to go with Arthur, so she climbed on Arthur’s back and they started walking along the beach with D.W. giving Arthur directions on where to go on the beach. Suddenly, Arthur starts losing control of where they were walking and…

Where is Arthur taking D.W. and will D.W. ever get in the water?

Read this book to find out!

You know what, I have always loved Marc Brown’s cute and witty writing on his “Arthur” series and this book is still as witty and fun to read as Marc Brown’s other “Arthur” books! I loved the way that Marc Brown wrote D.W.’s predicament in not wanting to go into the water because she did not want to get wet and it was hilarious seeing D.W. refusing to go into the water even though her family are enjoying themselves. I also found myself relating to D.W.’s predicament in not wanting to go into the water because I remembered when I was little and I was trying to swim for the first time, I did not want to go into the water because I was afraid of drowning, but I eventually got the courage to go into the water after I saw how much fun everyone else was having in the water and this book is extremely relatable to any child who has trouble trying to get into the water at the beach for the first time. I also like the way that Marc Brown portrayed Arthur and D.W.’s relationship in this book as they are not as antagonistic to each other as they usually are in the other “Arthur” books and it was great seeing Arthur trying to help his sister D.W. get into the water and show her how fun swimming can be. Marc Brown’s artwork is much more subdued in this book than in his other books as the outlines of the characters are much lighter in tone instead of the usual bold black lines and the color tones are much more earthly, giving this story a more traditional and down to earth tone.

Overall, “D.W. All Wet” is a truly fantastic and fun book to read for children who love reading books about beaches and having the same experiences as D.W. did. I would recommend this book to children ages four and up since there is nothing inappropriate in this book, unless D.W.’s bratty behavior might be a problem for some children.

I usually like D.W. books, but this one doesn't hold together very well, especially when Arthur throws her in the knee-deep water and she freaks out that she is drowning, then suddenly starts having fun. WTF?

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to Forever Dragonblade Publishing for providing me this arc via Netgalley!
For the past few months, I have been in a terrible reading slump, which means that I'm also in the hunt for THAT book that will remind me of what is staying awake until light starts peering from the window because I just. Can't. Put. It. Down.
Unfortunately, this was not it. It was not a bad book, don't get me wrong. But it didn't grab me.
I really liked the overall concept and the characters were fun and well built, however the sudden change in Thomas didn't really convince me (call me a skeptic), and the romance didn't fascinate me.
3 stars - read it if you're not in a slump, you might appreciate it more than I did.

My 4-year-old loved this. It's a pretty short book so it was easy to keep his attention plus the story line is funny. As a parent I thought it had a good moral about not judging something until you've actually tried it.

My son in first grade liked this book. This is one thing I don't like about kids--they sometimes resist something that they really like. Well, in the end she likes it after her brother tosses her into the drink. DW is, by the way, Arthur's sister, so it's cool to get a younger sister narrative.

A man from the working class. A woman with wealth. It simply can’t work or can it?
This is a great read that you will not want to put down. It is engaging and compelling from its opening pages. Guy is the son of a brick mason, scholar from Eton and Cambridge, an ex-bow runner, and now an agent for the crown. He has endured many struggles and surprising twists some of which were very unpleasant but he is determined to continue supporting his sister and their sick mother. His latest case is to root out the main union leaders/organizers in the coal mining industry. Daphne was orphaned at a young age and raised by her wealthy grandmother. She feels a responsibility to help the community and that frequently leads her to the coal mines, where men, women, and children are treated poorly. Delivering food and blankets one day, Daphne meets Guy, who is in disguise as a bank examiner. A dinner invitation to Guy soon leads to more interactions and Guy begins to better see and understand the struggles of the miners. But his job is to stop the union. At the same time someone is trying to stop him from seeing Daphne, going so far as violence. Daphne is under pressure to stop seeing Guy. But it is unclear who is behind the threats. How can Guy balance his assignment, his empathy for the workers, and his attraction to Daphne when everything says there is no way things can work out? This is a great read. It is third in a series but can easily be read as a standalone. I highly recommend all three books. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the copy. This is my review and all thoughts are my own.

What a refreshingly different book! I loved it. I loved the characters, Rose's mission was to expose all of the dishonorable rakes of the ton. I also loved how easy it was for Thomas to fall in love with Rose.

The only thing I hated was every time you thought they had overcome the thing that kept them apart, something else came up! This book was an emotional journey for me. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat for most of it. I also feel like it dealt with very real themes and consequences that women experience.

I don't want to say too much and spoil it but it's definitely not like your other romance novels.

This first book in the Ashton Park Series was awesome. Always a good sign when a series begins with a bang. Which this one did. Lady Rose is a spinster who fights against rakes & rogues on behalf of the vulnerable ladies of society. Thomas, Lord Newbury is her most recent scoundrel. Even though she has known him since childhood, and has admired him for most of that time, she is under no illusion as to his character and is dedicated to keeping him from societies young debutants. This story left me longing to read more which is always a good omen for a series.

New-to-me author Abigail Bridges writes a great story about a scarred woman, Rose, who refuses to let what happened to her happen to any other woman. When Thomas, a childhood friend, decides to join the marriage mart, Rose’s protective nature rises. She soon finds out that Thomas is not the rake society thinks he is. He and his family set out to help Rose get justice against an enemy. Working together, they see strengths in each other that others do not see. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

This was my first time reading anything from this author so I was excited to receive an ARC of the first book in this new series. I loved the characters and their backstories. I felt Bridges took a familiar trope of the spinster and the rogue and added a new twist to it. I thought the subplot was exciting if not a little busy at times, and there were too many obstacles to get to the HEA but it did not detract from my enjoyment. I look forward to reading more from this author.

DW went to the beach with your family and didn’t want to get in the water. She automatically said she didn’t like the water because she didn’t want to get wet. But, how do you not like something without trying it? So Arthur decided to trick her while they were playing. DW was on Arthur’s back and he ran into the water and splashed her in. I learned that some things may be better that what you may assume so why not just give it a try.

Marc Brown wrote this book on a little girl named D.W. and D.W. was scared of water. This lesson would go great in a classroom because it give students the opportunity to do something they aren't so sure about.

D.W. All Wet (D. W. Series) by Marc Brown is a look at a trip to the beach, where D.W. complains and repeatedly claims that she hates the water, until she gets a wet surprise.

D.W. complains that it's too hot, she doesn't like the beach and she hates the water. She wants to leave immediately and doesn't want to get sunburned. D.W. tries to trick Arthur into carrying her to the Ice Cream truck but instead he dunks her in the wading area, where she claims to be drowning until Arthur has her stand up. Then D.W. discovers that she loves the water and wants to return the next day.

The simple text contains a fair amount of humorous dialog. The moral is not to judge until you try something for yourself. Some good vocabulary is used as D.W. dipped, floated, flipped, flopped, squirted, splashed and dunked.

The illustrations really help carry this story, with humor and effective body language. The endpapers are attractive.

I have used this in story time when a fast, funny book is needed. Arthur books are popular and so is the D.W. series. It's a good read-aloud.

For ages 3 to 6, beach, water, complaints, water play, and fans of D. W. and Marc Brown.

I enjoyed this story in the Regency Spies & Secrets Series by Laura Beers - prior to this series I had not read any of her work and I am happy to report I will be back for more!

I originally read the other books in this series when they were released but somehow I missed this book. I was able to jump right back into the world Beers created and love how characters from previous books were mixed into this story! Overall I found this to be entertaining with likable MCs, full of fun twists and turns, and the chemistry between the MCs was undeniable.

D.W family took a trip to the beach and her brother Arthur is trying to get her to get in the water but she is afraid of the water because she does not know how to swim. D.W eventually is playfully forced to get over her fears. This is a good read for children to teach them how to try new things.

D.W. doesn't like the beach. She tries to trick Arthur into giving her a ride to the ice cream hut, but he has a different surprise for her.

I just enjoy D.W.'s feisty character.
