Jude Jamison is a Jesuit Inquisitor, part of the pope's force of special investigators. He suspects his cover has been blown as he's been under constant attack. Without the gargoyles his friend Evan sent along as his guardians, and a strange ability to start fires, he'd already be dead. Nicolai sees a gargoyle circling a smoldering building. He investigates the rare creature and is totally unprepared for the discovery of his human mate, lying amid the rubble. After waiting two millennia to find his mate, fate must be laughing. A human will never survive in his world. Yet he's unable to leave the beautiful man behind. Together can the two find a way to survive? Is this love's first fire? Sui Lynn is a born and raised mid-western gal. She loves Rock ‘n Roll but can get a little bit country too. She has been writing for as long as she can remember and is always found with a book or pencil and paper in hand. She has 2 Cocker Spaniels who are the comic relief in her life. She loves orange soda, Dr Who and her computer, all of which she could not function without.
This second volume of the series is every bit as fascinating, emotionally intense, and mysterious as the first. More bits and pieces of this creative mythology are added, and the post-apocalyptic world of gargoyles and the Elementals, or Makers, who can bring them to life, grows by leaps and bounds.
Jude is a character from the first book, an Inquisitor for the pope, and he turns out to be much more interesting than I ever suspected. He carries a secret that he has no idea how to deal with, and when his life is threatened, he doesn’t only have to figure out how to survive, but how to tame the power of fire that suddenly emerges in him.
Nico is a daemon who has waited for his mate for a very long time. He doesn’t even care that Jude is human, but is delighted when he finds out there is more to the man than he first thought. His support is unwavering, and while he wants nothing more than to claim Jude, he shows admirable restraint, wanting to make sure Jude is ready for ‘forever’.
I loved the main characters as well as all the additional people who are turning out to be part of the slowly forming team. This second story focuses more on the development of the mythology behind this world, but the budding relationship and Jude’s growth are firmly at the center of it. I cannot wait to see what Sui Lynn comes up with next. If you’re interested in reading about a paranormal/fantasy world with slight religious overtones, if strong characters are your thing, and if you want to know how the story continues, don’t miss this second installment.
This series is expanding and getting ever more interesting. I love this one just as much as the first one. I love all the new characters and species introduced in this book. There's just one problem...
I need the next book now. I need to know what happens next and I need to read Sammy and Gabe's story! XD This is one of those series that I become so addicted to.
Jude is in desperate need of help, as more and more demons are sent after him. But, there is only so much he can accept, because of the fear of hurting someone by accident. Nico is surprised to learn that his mate is human. What on Earth could fate have been thinking? But, as he gets to know his mate, he learns that Jude’s life is in grave danger and that there is far more to Jude than he first realised.
This is the second book in the Elements of Love series and must be read in order, as events in Adel’s Purr lead to discoveries in this book. Jude, Jesuit Inquisitor, is running for his life. He suspects a certain faction within the church is responsible, but getting the proof has been difficult. But, that isn’t his only problem, he feels like something is trying to consume him from the inside and it has something to do with his ability to suddenly create fire. Nico is seeking to protect a little gargoyle when he comes across his mate nearly unconscious and severely injured. Now, he has to help his mate delve into the underbelly of the church and help his mate control his fire.
This is a fantastic addition to the Elements of Love series and it continues with Jude’s story. As we saw at the end of the last book, Jude can now manifest fire, but the how and why is discovered in this story. Jude is drawn to his rescuer, but is terrified of hurting him. Nico tries to reassure Jude that he won’t, but he also worries that he will injury Jude. So it is an interesting beginning for our two lovely MCs, as they both come to realize that they are perfect for each other. We find out more about the Elementals and the history behind them, along with a slew of new characters, who add a broader horizon for future books.
So with the relationship between Jude and Nico, they might be a well matched pair, but that doesn’t mean that it is going to be easy for them. Both these characters are great, with Nico trying to show Jude that he will always be there for him, and Jude putting his trust in Nico although he is scared of losing him. With everything going on we mustn’t forget that they have the church to contend with and, gah, they are really nasty.
Well, what can I say? If you love paranormal, danger, rescues, gargoyles, hidden agendas, conspiracy, hot sex (lol), really hot men, and a happy ever after and an open end for the next book, then this is for you.
This book was such a good addition to this series! I would suggest reading the first book in the series before this one because you do see a lot of those characters in this story and you first meet Jude in that book too.
Jude has started developing powers which he does not understand at all. He also has very bad people after him which is how he first meets Nico.
There was so much action in this book and some steam too between these two men. I really liked how the author wrote this story and these characters. With Nico's all protective growly personality. Then there was the way these men cared so much for each other and how you could really feel it while reading this book. I also love this world this author created and how you find out more about it with every book you read in this series.
So I will leave this review with.. .I really loved this story and would recommend this book!
I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.
I am little disappointed with second book. Story plot is so... so.. And main character Jude is uninteresting as a person. Somehow both Jude and Nico did not pull me into there relationship. So I hope next book will be more refreshing.
3.5 stars. This is a continuation of the story that started in Adel's Purr.
In this story, the main character is Jude Jamison, a member of the Pope's Inquisitor Squad In a post-apocalyptic society. In the last story, we learned that Jude is a fire elemental which means that he has the ability to create fire with just his thoughts. The main portion of this story opens with Jude having been involved in a fight with a demon, and Jude is severely injured. He is come upon by a good Samaritan, named Nico, who immediately knows that Jude is his "true mate" provided that he survives his injuries: Jude's response is unknown because he is so ill.
Fast forward just a little . . . Jude and Nico become mates, just like in shifter novels, and they go through the mating process. (The first romance scene between Jude and Nico moves the story forward since they are bonded as mates, but the balance of the romance scenes are clumsy and poorly written. I found it easier just to flip through those scenes to get back to the main story line.). Jude also learns that, as his power grows, so too does his need to have an animal alter ego to hold his overflowing fire energy when he needs it: his animal alter-ego is a Phoenix. He originally has no idea how to develop an animal fire beast, so he and Nico go to visit a friend who is a wolf shape shifter to see how he developed his alter ego.
As the story continues, Jude and Nico have to come up with a game plan for figuring out who is trying to kill Jude (and why). Archbishop O'Flaggan (spelled differently throughout the book depending on what chapter you're reading), an insider on the Pope's councils, comes across as a potential obvious choice. As always, this author telegraphs the one villain in her writing, so the stories are never difficult to predict.
The Archbishop kidnaps two of Jude's closest allies. Jude then calls in reinforcements, including Evan and Adel, from book 1 in the series, to locate and rescue his friends. Jude and his allies are able to recover one of his two kidnapped friends and a whole bunch of other creatures that had been captured and abused by Archbishop O'Flaggan. But, they were unable to kill the archbishop or save his ally, named Fin, before the bad guys dematerialized from the location where there were being held.
The story ends just dangling at that spot -- surely there will be another episode to this story -- "the search for Fin" or some such title.
Overall, this novel is not nearly as good as book one of this series, but it still merits 3.5 stars, because I am still interested enough in the story to want to read its sequel.
As a secret Jesuit Inquisitor for the Pope in Rome it is Peter Judas ‘Jude’ Jamison’s duty to quietly seek out any wrongdoings by the clergy. The recent discovery of clergy members delving into the black arts and demon summoning proves that the situation is much worse than first suspected.
Someone in power must have some idea as to Jude’s identity after a fight with demons almost kills him. If not for the help of gargoyles Skye and Finton, assigned to Jude by the Earth Elemental Evan Halvard, the Inquisitor would’ve certainly died.
Badly injured Jude is found in the rubble of a building by a centuries old nature spirit or Daemon, Nicholas ‘Nico’ Daemarkus. The moment Nico scents the human he knows that he has found his mate at long last. Granted one mate in a lifetime, the immortal Daemon has no intention of letting his mate get hurt ever again. Regardless of Nico’s wishes someone still wants to end the life of the Inquisitor who seems to be evolving into something more than human. Keeping Jude safe may not be an option.
An amazing, well written blend of action, drama, and passion! Book two in the Elements of Love series introduces readers to Nico’s Fire where suspense and sensuality go hand in hand with trust and love. Nico and Jude are complex, intense characters open to mistakes, jealousy, and acceptance. Author Sui Lynn constructs a new world where the Church is all powerful and creatures of lore ultimately offer redemption. Nico’s Fire features heart pounding escapism in a storyline that never cools off. An exciting, scary alter reality, I Joyfully recommend Nico’s Fire. Dive in and pray.

I loved this, what a great follow up to the first book! Great characters, both new and old, and interesting storyline. I love the world building in this series. I hope the wait isn't too long for the third book!
I hate books with a lapdog for MC. Unless the author discloses it in the description and I know exactly what to expect. I don't think I will be reading the sequel.
I think that every book should be at least a bit different in the plot... If the reader knows from the start where it's leading to, he gets bored .. Like me
It was as good as the first one. The tempo is a bit higher because we already know the basic characters. I hope the next book in this series will be published soon.
