Victoria Hanley is one of my favorite authors, but the end of this book is torturous. I'm not fond of cliffhangers, and the fact that Victoria Hanley has said before that writing a first draft is like 'clawing my way through solid rock using only my fingernails' makes me worry about how long the next book is going to take to come out.

I liked this book very much. It was fast paced and didn't seem to lag from beginning to end. Zaria and her friends shine and Lily Morganite is truly evil (if you thought she was an evil witch-fairy in Violet Wings, she doesn't stop showing just how much of a witch she is in this sequel). I'm so glad I read it. I hope there will be another book, because if there isn't---it would be a real shame.

Awesome book was very hard to put down and heart wrenching at the end. I can't wait for the sequel.

Book so insane but obscure that I may have to literally purchase a physical copy of the third one…

WRITING: 4 wings

Victoria Hanley’s writing is simple, but addictive. Like the previous book in the series, Violet Wings (which I reviewed a little while back), each chapter starts with a few paragraphs worth of an excerpt from a Fey historical text. It explains a bit of the background so that you feel more knowledgeable about the world going in. This one, simple act makes the writing–the story–so much more enjoyable. It feels like you are sinking into a cozy bath because you’re so comfortable with the world, and not overwhelmed with the details.

Again, the description really doesn’t do the book justice. You really just have to start reading it, and you’ll see what I mean.

PLOT: 4.5 wings

I wasn’t really expecting this to be a “middle” book, but in a lot of ways, it is. It had its own story arch where the characters embarked on a journey to discover how they can counter the magic dust that Zaria inadvertently created that destroys magic. But the story ends with a cliffhanger! Some parts of the story do get resolved–but not entirely to Zaria’s liking. The war is only just beginning, and there’s still much to be done. I can’t wait until the next book comes out. If there is a next book. I really hope there is!

The book starts pretty much where Violet Wings left off. The action started immediately, unlike in Violet Wings. It’s really a book you have to read immediately after you read the first one so you can remember all the details and happenings. It does give some explanations for the uninitiated, but why would you want to read the second book first and spoil the story?

Compared to the first book, even though there was a cliffhanger in this one, I think the ending was a lot better on this one. There was a lot more tension–there was a lot more at stake. But everything in the first book really built up to this one moment, where Zaria would have to make a choice–her family, or her world.

CHARACTERS: 4 wings

Zaria’s friends felt like talking heads sometimes–vessels that only existed to carry out her wishes or the needs of the author in the scene. Meteor got more “screen time” in this book, but I didn’t feel like Zaria’s and Meteor’s relationship developed much more. I really hope that there’s more of a focus on the secondary characters and their dilemmas in the future book(s).

Laz frustrated me the most, in a good way. His character, and Zaria’s, developed the most in this book. He’s a scoundrel, and a smuggler. He brings “illegal” substances into Feyland from Earth. And what is illegal to the Fey? Why, coffee is! Hehe. Why Zaria continues to trust him, I don’t know! But he does have connections and was useful to her…but you can never trust a smuggler. I just hope that one day, she can outsmart him.

OVERALL: 4.5 wings

I can’t wait until the next book is released, if there is a next book. There better be!

First of all, I LOVE THIS BOOK.

...But I wish Violet Wings gave me a heads up about this second book. I didn't find out about Indigo Magic until 3 months ago, and I didn't get my hands on it until this month. I had to reread the first book again in order to read the second book, and thank God I did. I almost completely forgot about everything that happened in Violet Wings.

Second of all, the author forgot to give another heads up again to us readers. I'm not saying that there will be, for sure, a third book, but I see a pattern that makes me believe that there will be a another book coming out. The ending of the first book wasn't resolved fully, and then the second book came out without any warning (or at least that was the case for me), which also didn't have a resolve either, so I'm going to predict (with all my heart) that there will be a third book to resolve this one huge story Victoria Hanley has written for Violet Wings. If not, then I will feel really sad and empty. Please don't let Violet Wings end like this, with .

Third of all,

And fourth of all, nice plot twists.

So for anyone who is going to read this book, I HIGHLY recommend you read the first book because Violet Wings is a flow between book 1 and book 2. Both of these books do not have their own separate stories. Also, keep an eye out for a possible third book since the ending hasn't been resolved yet.

If you like fairy tales that just somehow makes so much sense and seems so very real (such as The Lunar Chronicles, The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, Fairy Bad Day, and Harry Potter), then this book will most likely be for you.

In conclusion, this book was very enjoyable and has a unique view of the fairy world (which not only includes fairies, but also gremlins, trolls, and gnomes). For anyone who is reading this right now, I want you to get a copy of this book somehow (legally) and read it. If you're a fairytale loving nerd like me, you won't regret it.

I was looking forward to reading this book after the first in the series, but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The protagonist, Zaria, was quite annoying managing to
Not much really happened in this story and it seemed to be very much a set up for what is going to happen in the next book in the series. Therefore this book was a bit disappointing compared to the first in the series and it only receives two stars.

I think it was a well written but a very depressing book. Almost everything that happened was bad and if something good happened then it was ruined. I didn't enjoy it that much and found it a bit of a drag.

I REALLY LOVED THIS BOOK! I’m also thankful that the author wrote me back after I had written her to tell me that she had finished writing the third book. And that was a year or more after she had first responded to me.

I don't know why I'm reading all the junk I have been this summer. It's depressing. This book was not worth my time. I finished it anyway. :/
