Twisted passion accelerates disaster!! After twenty years of searching, Celty, the headless Black Rider, has at last found her missing head-bobbing through the streets of Ikebukuro on someone else's neck! Though Celty pursues, the girl escapes on the arm of Mikado Ryuugamine, taking refuge in his apartment. But with both the legendary Rider and Yagiri Pharmaceuticals bearing down on Ryuugamine in their pursuit of the scarred girl, how can he hope to save his own neck?!
the plot thickens and develops into something that makes you grabbing for the next book. the quality of the drawings and the way the plot flows from page to page. its just awesome.
Story of Celty's head continues, and it's genuinely entertaining! Honestly the only complaint I'd have is that her character is just kind of... flat? Like, her only personality trait is that she looks for her head and that she doesn't like Shinra being invasive. Which are good traits, but I wish she had a little more to her! Generally, one of the better volumes!

I'm really enjoying this series. The characters are interesting, as are their stories and the reasons that move them forward. Without revealing too much, I have to say the end of this volume shocked me. I definitely did not see that coming and will be reading the last volume soon to see what happens next.
Possibly the only problem I have is that all the other characters seem more… interesting than Mikado, who is supposed to be our main character. The twist helps a little with this but I'll have to see what the last volume brings. A lot of the other characters like Celty – the headless biker, and Izaya – a villainous character are so fascinating they are overshadowing Mikado's own story.
I love the illustrations and will be seeking out to see if there are more manga by those who worked on this manga series.
Final Verdict: I'm reserving judgment on this series until I read the next volume. So far, I feel really engaged if not a little confused by the ending of this volume.
While the visuals partake of plenty of recognizable manga/anime conventions, the writing and even the tone of this book feel like nothing else I've read or watched in either genre. Okay, I take that back, there are moments where I get some of the same feeling of strange magic that I get watching Hayao Mayazaki films.
This is an urban fairy tale in the best sense of the word. It maintains that feeling of being our world but not, that fills the best of Grimm's and other folk tales. It captures that slightly off-kilter kind of magic that isn't really explicable but looked at just write out of the corner of your eye makes a madcap sense. It's strange enough that I can't quite do it justice in a review. If I had to pick one point of comparison in anything I've read before it would Charles de Lint.
Scratch what I said in the previous volume review about the volume cover, this one is the nicest one I've seen to date
I really love the twists and turns of this series, it really is an all engrossing series that makes me connect and wonder what is actually the big story
While the twists and turns in terms of development of characters and story were still gripping in this third volume, I had one major issue: the ending.
Mikado is suddenly leader of the Dollars? I'm sorry, but there was absolutely NO buildup to this sudden shift in character development. While I'm not asking for blatantly obvious hints to Mikado's involvement in the gang, I don't want this new fact being thrown in my face all of the sudden either. I understand that in a manga that focuses on multiple characters' points of view rather than one that it could be a bit difficult to try to focus solely on one character for so long, but please, if you're going to change a character so drastically, try to give a BIT of a warning to your readers.
To be honest, I'm saddened by how little of the scenes actually focus on Mikado. While I love Shizuo and Celty and Izaya, Mikado IS the main character of this manga, and while there are some good scenes with him, I feel like the focus is sometimes thrown to a different character.
Whether or not this is intentional, I'm going to say that this book, compared to the others, surprisingly disappointed me.

This volume is when the plot for the series really starts to take off!
With a heavy focus on Celty finding her head, everyone's stories start to convene.
We get to learn more about Shizuo through his budding friendship with Celty. And I still cannot stand Shinra Kishitani and the way he treats Celty- telling her to give up on something she really cares about and pressuring her into marriage; that being said their conversation about love was quite nice- understanding that everyone has different values and views but people can still love each other as long as there is an understanding. It was also quite nice to see Mikado Ryugamine's growth in this volume- with him getting bolder and exposing more of his true self (intentions? characteristics? desires?).
The ending was also quite satisfying in this volume and I'm excited to read what happens next!
It's interesting to see the same scene portrayed in a novel, anime, and manga format. It's one of my favorite scenes in the series. I thought it was especially interesting how in the afterword the author expressed how he was jealous of the anime and manga adaptations wishing some of the things added he had put in his light novels and this novels paled in comparison to which I was like, shush your novels are perfect now get them printed in English for me. For those of you who haven't read or watched the series I highly recommend it.
I've got to say that I truly love the twist in this volume. I believe that the reason why we don't feel anything from Mikado is because that's how he wants it. Being the leader of so many dollars he wouldn't want constant attention brought to him. I feel that's why the author doesn't focus on him either. The quiet ones are the ones you need to fear the most. I'm really glad I picked this series up!!
This is getting really juicy! All of the characters are so endearing; there isn't a single character that I dislike. The plot is getting really interesting. Celty's mission of finding her head has kept me hooked and Mikado's role with the Dollars is just brilliant. Looking forward to read the last book of this arc.
You can't see it online, but this cover's got shiny hearts all over it. I'm digging it.
We meet the mystery girl who looks a lot like Celty's head, and the truth of the Dollar's is revealed. Important plot points, all. I was hoping that, since things were chugging along at a fast pace, that this arc would be finished with this volume, but alas, no yet. We instead have a cliff-hanger.
This volume gets to probably one of my favorite parts of the story, both in the TV show and here in the manga (I haven't read the novel yet) - the confrontation in downtown Ikebukuro. This is really the point in the story where Mikado really comes into his own as a character, and shows his hidden depths that show he isn't your typical non-committal Light Novel protagonist.
The only reason I ended up reading this series is because, at one point in the past, I absolutely loved the anime. Not so much anymore since I kind of watched it so many times, it eventually just seemed pretty meh to me. Kind of like how I’ve always felt for this series as a manga; it’s just meh.
kereeen... pengen nyari ebook novelnya deh. trus animenya juga. kok cepet banget si ryugamine ngakunya kalo dia pemimpin dollars ya? penasaran bakal diapain dia sama izaya karena udah berutang budi gitu.
What a tweeest--a confrontation between Yagiri Pharmaceuticals and the Dollars results in an interesting revelation! What will happen next? I'm all caught up, so now I will have to wait to find out. :(
I was SO glad I didn't read this until I had the last volume - by the time you get here, you're not going to want to stop at the end. Things are coming together in a few ways that I totally didn't anticipate, and this manga is creeping up in my list of favorite reads
Wow ceritanya sadis! Menarik sekali twist-nya. Makin lama makin menegangkan dan sekarang... Terpaksa menunggu September untuk bisa mengetahui kelanjutannyaaaaaaaa....!!!
