Born to Pull: The Glory of Sled Dogs [Paperback]

Rate this book
Sled dogs are a mysterious breed-unrelentingly independent. At play, they may look like any other pup, but at work they bear no resemblance to others of their species. Investigate how the fierce bond between musher and dog slowly develops until the team fuses and unleashes its collective power on the trail. Learn how these roles occasionally reverse when a "green" musher learns to trust a sled dog's experience and innate pulling instinct.Born to Pull is written by famed North Woods author Bob Cary. Each chapter features expert insight into dog sled team dynamics that complement Bob's lively stories about life on the trail. These narratives are vividly brought to life with stunning illustrations by northern watercolor artist Gail de Marcken who spent several months traveling with dog sled teams. Inside these pages, you'll learn everything you always wanted to know about sled dogs and their sport!

Very good book. Very nice artwork. Very nicely laid out. Really explained every aspect of dogsledding. Definitely a great go to book if you wanted to explain any part of dogsledding.

There is a also a few stories mixed in with all the details on dog sledding. Those stories are good, but not as amazing as stories you get from a Gary Paulsen book. I would have liked a lot more stories.

I put this under the category of Youth because it would with the pictures and concise writing would be good for children, but anyone who has an interest in dog sledding would enjoy the book.

Read this before going dogsledding, and it gave the perfect amount of information, science, and anecdotes about sled dogs and the people who love them. Illustrations are out of this world beautiful. Despite the fact that this is an illustrated book, it isn't childish -- my husband and I both got a lot out of it as an adult read.
