This book is by a friend of mine. He has worked on for awhile and recently got it published. I was happy for him because he finally published a book of poetry like he has wanted to for quite awhile.
While I know he has sold a number of copies, which is great. I haven't had the money to buy a copy of my own. I was planning on buying a copy from him whenever I had the money to. .

Yesterday, however, I went out to get the mail and found a package in my mailbox. I wondered what it was because I wasn't expecting anything in the mail. I pulled it out and saw it was from my friend. I came inside, opened the package and found the book A Year in the Life of Empty. I wasn't expecting to see a copy in the mail. I got teary eyed when I opened the package and saw what it was. I found out that someone bought it for me. I don't know who, but it really touched me.

And what can I say what about this book? There are so many things I want to say. I sat down and read it, but not all at once like I usually do with poetry books. I took my time, reading each poem more than once, seeing the imagery and experiencing the words, their feelings and the way they flow.

Each poem was a new adventure, they were beautiful and real. The words still echo in my mind. But I can't choose a favorite poem, all were so good and memorable.

This is a truly wonderful and unique book of poetry. Each poem in this book will give you a glimpse into how the this amazing writer sees the world.

I could say so much more, but I think you should buy the book and experience it for yourself. You won't regret it.

To say I enjoyed this collection of poetry doesn't quite explain how it moved me. Some of the poetry can be enjoyed as such. But much of it is so charged with feelings and interesting word choices and rawness, that the experience cannot be merely enjoyment. Many of the poems attach themselves to some event or feeling in my life to become more than just words. This is not a book to read cover-to-cover, it is a book to flip to a random page and see what happens. (After you've read it cover-to-cover.)

It is a measure of my appreciation for this book that I am attempting my 4th review, after the previous 3 disappeared into the final frontier. So, here I go again.

I savored the poems in Glaze’s "A Year in the Life of Empty". As one who has both a strong intellect and an equally strong intuition, I began my reading with my intellect. But these poems, like most poetry, beg to be read from an intuitive space. I am also one who believes that all is connected, all is one, all, is.

A favorite poem is the final one in the collection.

“Tao”

I am an ocean
standing in the rain.

I am a body of rain
falling into the ocean.

There is no I.

There is only ocean
and rain.

Another poem which speaks deeply to my soul is “wind”. In speaking of wind, Glaze says it

speaks
louder in silence

one day my ears will
fall away, and
I will understand it all

I was with my father when he died, when he moved to the other side. “thoughts on the subject of night”says

night is the closest thing
to the other side of the veil,
toward which I would draw near.

Later in the same poem, Glaze concludes:

deep inside me there is a place of
moon and stars, and of silence.

Other favorite poems are “Humus II”, “fend”, “volcanic ash”, and since I am a vegetarian, “the slaughter of meat”.

This collection is highly recommended.

If I were as gifted a writer as J.E. Glaze, I might be able to come up with a review that would do this book justice; but since I am not, I will do my best. "A Year in the Life of Empty: poems" is a rare sample of breathtaking poetry from a gifted and anomalous (in a good way!) individual. Glaze is not just a writer; he is an artist. This versatility is captured so delightfully in his remarkable work.

With a variety and depth of subject matter, he entices any reader to engage the colorful and interesting exploration of said matter. One of my favorite things about Glaze’s writing is his stunning imagery that captivates the reader in concise yet exquisite description. It is, I think, due in part to this ability that he is able to write in such an alluring manner.

His work is clever and intelligent while also insightful and freeing. There is a baffling blend of enthralling energy, quiet surrender, simplicity, and vulnerability throughout Glaze’s phenomenal poetry. To say it is moving is an understatement.

Glaze is a humble, genuine artist whose work reflects the wisdom and sincerity of its author in an astounding way. I, for one, cannot wait to see more of these poetry gems in future books!
