This is an easy reader about a dad who must do the household chores when his wife is sick in bed and he basically screws them all up. I really disliked the fact that this book perpetuates the idea that men are incapable of performing domestic duties and if they even try, it will go all wrong. I especially disliked that it is aimed at young children who are exploring the world around them. I'm not against books for children with characters performing traditional gender roles, but I think it is harmful to bolster to children the idea that a person cannot perform tasks traditionally done by the opposite gender. I would expect this from an older title, but this was published in 2011. Get with the times! What I will say is that this could be used to have a conversation with a child about gender roles, what the book is saying and whether or not it is true.

Ugh. That's nearly all I have to say about this one. Bumbling dad manages to make a complete mess of things when mom is sick with a cold. "My dad stayed home the other day. My mom was sick. Her throat was gray." After a day of total incompetence, "He hung some shirts out on the line. They blew away - and some were mine! Then as we chased them in the yard, Dad said, 'I never worked so hard.' It's the kid who finally saves the day - by ordering pizza so they can eat after Dad's burned the roast. Appended with phonics activities for parents to do with their children.

A giant hot mess of sexist garbage, packed into an easy reader! Impressive, honestly how they fit so many harmful stereotypes in so few pages.

“Dad Does It All” is a great realistic fiction about a father taking over the household due the mother’s illness. This book is loaded with sight words. I would use this book to teach students different sight words, as well as having them use different words in a sentence. This book can also be used to teach students rhyming words as well.

I checked this out because I took the title at face value. Unfortunately, it was just another book about supposed male ineptness at cleaning and child-rearing. I thought we were past this.
