In 1971, she was made a Dame (DBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for her contributions to literature. Guinness World Records lists Christie as the best-selling fiction writer of all time, her novels having sold more than two billion copies.

This best-selling author of all time wrote 66 crime novels and story collections, fourteen plays, and six novels under a pseudonym in romance. Her books sold more than a billion copies in the English language and a billion in translation. According to Index Translationum, people translated her works into 103 languages at least, the most for an individual author. Of the most enduring figures in crime literature, she created Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. She atuhored The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in the history of modern theater.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd tiene uno de esos recursos narrativos que, en mi opinión, funcionan una sola vez. Después de leerlo, es difícil volver a enfrentarse a una construcción similar con la misma inocencia.

No sé si Christie fue la primera en utilizarlo de esta manera, pero aquí el resultado es brillante: no depende sólo de sorprender al lector, sino de cómo administra la información y de lo que uno da por supuesto mientras avanza la investigación.

Es uno de mis misterios favoritos precisamente porque la solución obliga a reconsiderar retrospectivamente todo lo que parecía claro durante la lectura.

Trochę rozciągnięta, tak naprawdę autorka nie pozwala na to żeby określić kto zamordował, sama daje tak mało kontekstu, a potem nagle pojawiają się dziwne nowe fakty, mnie nie wciągnęła, zakończenie jak na Agathe Christie dość banalne, można było się spodziewać.

Bom pra caralho. O livro é bom, o final é espetacular. Impressionante, um dos melhorres plot twists que já vi. O livro em si não se destaca muito. Do inicio ao fim parece ser mais um livro de misterio e detetive normal. O final, entretanto, faz com que o livro se torne verdadeiramente único. Esperava ZERO o final. Estou verdadeiramente pasmo. O melhor exemplo de que não se pode confiar no narrador. Espetacular. Fui para o livro esperando apenas um feijão com arroz bem feito, este entretanto é um verdadeiro risoto ao molho madeiro. Fui esperando algo só bom e fácil de ler e encontrei algo realmente espetacular.

This book is a pioneering work for whodunnits genre! We all knew who did it from the start but the way she unravels it and concentrates on the details almost playing with the audience to doubt themselves whether it was who it is we have been placing our bets on all along but brilliantly narrates this story! Although personally I felt the ending to be slightly rushed as in it would have been nice to have a chapter where we see it from the culprit pov throughout the investigation process (more indepth if you know what I means!) However,I quite enjoyed it!

So...I pulled a book from the bottom of my large stack of "Unreads" the other day and found myself with Agatha Christie. Though I wouldn't recommend Christie necessarily, I found the book entertaining and I did NOT figure out the mystery, didn't see the solution coming at all. I have to say that Christie is a master at dialogue--the book is virtually all dialogue--and I was so impressed with her precise narrative flow.

It was... absolutely wonderful,I've got to say..Just finished it and...Agatha Christie really has a way with these murder mysteries,everytime I read one of her books,I feel as though I might try to solve the case myself...and I'm almost always, unexpectedly surprised.The criminals afe people who you'd have thought of least..I really enjoyed this book,because honestly,who would have suspected?

Definitely one of my top 5 favorite Christie reads. I remember the “who” of the whodunnit (as will most people who have read this one), but it was fun to re-read with that knowledge and see the craft of the writing. Plus the “how” was tricky and I still didn’t get it right, even though I knew who the murderer was from page 1.

I read somewhere that this is the only book to read by Agatha Christie, if you'd have to choose. In all honesty, I didn't like this novel as much as I liked "And then there were none", read when I was a teenager. The plot is interesting- especially the finale - but the entire story is now too obvious. I can imagine how at that time it was written it was considered as a novelty.

Wonderfully frivolous, for a reader from 2025 - very 1980's Bollywood, well paced. Not the most well-crafted conspiracy but the kind of book you pick up when you are in a reading slump.

I liked it, however it seemed pretty obvious to me from the very start. I don't know if it was that simple or I have just read too much of her work.
