This is one of the best collections of poetry that I've read. Brown sets the book up as a dictionary - hence the title. Each poem's title is a word starting with consecutive letters of the alphabet, followed by a dictionary definition. The poem is a meditation on the word, making the whole collection an intimate encyclopedia. Brown studied mathematics as well as poetry, and his wide-ranging knowledge gives him a broad world of words and metaphors with which to explain his world. Highly, highly recommended.
