Sydney Carson doesn’t have room in her life for the complications of a relationship. Her life is busy enough, what with having to referee her parent’s separation, keep her playboy brother out of trouble, and still manage to run her family’s busy real estate investment firm. That doesn’t leave a lot of time for personal needs.
But after bumping in to high school friend, Reece Myers, and feeling the searing heat of their instant chemistry, Sydney figures that finding time for the occasional hour of mind-numbing sex certainly couldn't hurt. Or could it?
Reece Myers has finally gotten his life where he wants it. His blue-collar bar is a success, he’s got good friends, and a building nest egg in the bank. The only thing missing is the right woman to share that life with. He thinks he’s found her in the form of one long-legged, gorgeous redhead from his past, but the hard part is convincing Sydney it’s worth a shot.
Going in, Reece knows Sydney has money, but her sweetness and unassuming nature make it easy to ignore. However, when their personal and professional lives clash, the vast difference in their bottom lines shocks him back to reality. Can he overcome his insecurities for a chance at a future with the woman of his dreams?
I started reading when I was four, thanks to a babysitter who found out the only way to get me to sit still (and shut up) was to put a book in my hand. By the time I entered kindergarten, I’d blown through just about every Little Golden Book ever printed. Ten years later, much to my mother’s dismay, I found her stash of paperback romance novels. She tried to divert me back to something more chaste by buying me Harlequins, but I still snuck copies of hers when she wasn’t looking. Shanna, The Flame and the Flower, and Fires of Winter will always hold special places in my heart because they introduced me to roguish heroes, headstrong heroines, and the trouble they could get into together.
First of all, the Sydney and Reese had great chemistry. Even during the beginning when she was bent on keeping their relationship as a friends with benefits relationship, the chemistry was evident. The couple was already in the friends with benefit stage when the book started and didn't waste the first few chapters giving the back story of both characters. This was done as the book progressed and allowed me to become invested in the book from the beginning.
Sydney is a successful business woman, working for her father's company as counsel. From the beginning, I felt that she was a little too buttoned up and didn't know how to let loose and have fun. It doesn't help that she is probably the most mature person in her family (yes, parents included!). She takes care of everyone else and doesn't really have anyone to take care of her.
Insert Reese, who Sydney went to high school with and then has coffee with after bumping into him many years later. He is certainly less privileged than Sydney, taking over his father's run down bar and turning it into one of the city's best sports bars. From the onset, I could tell that he had it bad for Sydney and would go along with this friends with benefits thing just to spend time with her. He is sweet and takes care of Sydney in some of the most romantic ways possible:)
I enjoyed the way they evolved into a couple without trying too hard and how that eventually loosened Sydney up, giving her the ability to live life. However, the book is not without some angst and speed bumps for the couple. Really, romance novels are boring without those moments!
If you are looking for a book that will bring your right into the meat (not minute steak but filet mignon) and potatoes and skip the appetizer, this is the book for you. I can say that it is a quick and easy read, having finished it in one night.
Sydney has spent the majority of her adult years cleaning up her families mess. When she runs into old school-mate Reece, the sparks begin to fly and they begin to have lots and lots of illicit sex. I say illicit because that’s what it is; they meet in his office, have spectacular sex and then she leaves. She doesn’t have room in her life for Reece fulltime, but she simply can't stop seeing him. Between her warring parents, her selfish brother and a demanding job, there is little room for anyone. The only thing Sydney recognises is that the seconds she has to herself, she spends in blissful peace with Reece.
Reece doesn’t want to be just convenient shag to Sydney. She captivates him on a level that no one else has, he wants to be part of her life. Every time he asks her for more, she shoots him down. Then, as a snub towards her mother, Sydney asks him to be her escort to a dinner and lifts the restrictions on their relationship. From then on, it’s sex and relationships for our happy couple. It looks like there could be true love on the cards, but things never run that smooth!
Reece is a man who has worked all his life to get to where he is. He knows going into the relationship that Sydney is worth some money, but when the true extent of her wealth is shoved into his face, he finds it hard to understand what it is that he brings to the relationship. Can Reece get over his male pride enough to realise that he is pushing away the woman of his dreams?
I really enjoyed this novella and was very surprised by how engaging the characters were. The book starts with a bang (literally ) with Reece and Sydney having sex on his desk at his bar. The sex was incredibly hot, but it gave me rather a false view of what the rest of this book would be like. I expected a book full of red hot sex, but what I got was a rather sweet and sexy story about a woman who didn’t believe she had time for love and a man determined to catch the girl of his dreams.
Reece is a complex man and I loved him. He is a blue-collar man who has worked his way into the position of his dreams. The owner of his own bar, he was proud of what he’d accomplished. When Sydney walks back to his life, it doesn’t take him long to realise that he wants to be more than a dirty little secret. When she finally lets him in, I was impressed with his attitude. He didn’t push her into anything she didn’t want to do (e.g. introduce him to her parents), kept a very dignified stance on their relationship and was just generally the perfect man. He is sexy, fun and damn generous in the sack (the sign of a true romantic hero :D). Shame he buggers it all up when he starts being all cave man (you woman, me provider).
Sydney is actually really fun. I understood her reluctance to get involved with Reece at the start because she had so much on her plate I wasn’t sure how she was still functioning. The thing I really liked was that once she let him in, she truly let him in and embraced their relationship. There were no barriers, no pretences and just no holding back. Yes, she didn’t disclose the true extent of her wealth, but that wasn’t a conscious decision, more an oversight. Reece was a breath of fresh air in a life that is very much stagnant; I truly enjoyed them together as a couple. The sex is off the charts hot too...Reece is a very, very naughty boy. The scenes at his party were the perfect summation up of this relationship; sweet and fun romantic conversations/flirting interspersed with imaginative, smutty sex.
Overall, a sweet yet steamy read that kept me engaged with a fabulous love story between two very compelling characters. The sex enhanced the story rather than ran it, making this a lovely erotic romance novella that I thoroughly enjoyed. The side characters were pretty interesting soon...I hope Deke gets a story :D
Lyn is a debut author with this novella, and I not only fell in lust with the cover, but the blurb sounded like it would be a good, fun, quick read.
Sydney lives her life cleaning up the messes of her family. Her brother is an irresponsible playboy, her mother is a little neurotic and her father is making some rather ridiculous decisions in both his personal and professional life. The little free time she has she spends either alone or with Reece, an old high school buddy she just reconnected with. She isn’t looking for anything serious, but Reece is sexy and okay with a no-strings relationships.
Reece is glad to have Sydney coming to him, but after a few months, he is starting to hope that they can spend more time together and start to develop an actual relationship. When Sydney needs a date to a benefit, he finally gets his chance to wine and dine her outside of the bedroom. As Sydney’s life crashes around her, Reece is there to pick up the pieces. But when Sydney is finally ready for more, will Reece be able to handle all the differences in their lives?
I thought this was a really cute debut novella. The relationship between Reece and Sydney was super sweet. It started off as a physical thing only, with Sydney making weekly trips to Reece’s office at his bar. But once Sydney started letting Reece into her life little by little, I loved watching her realize just how amazing it can be having someone to trust, someone to confide in, someone to hug when having a crappy day. I also liked that Reece gave Sydney the time to realize that she needed someone. He didn’t push her, but was always there in the wings, waiting for her to realize how great they would be together.
One of the other things I really liked was the development of Sydney and Reece’s characters. I’m always a big fan of slightly neurotic heroines, and Sydney was great fun to read. She was a little stuffy, a little OCD, and fun to read. I’ve always loved heroines who are set in their crazy ways, and come to grips with “normal” reality little by little. It’s also fun to watch the manly men in their lives ruffle their feathers. Reece did a great job of keeping her on her toes just enough so that she was able to really develop as a character. I loved that.
While I can understand where the main conflict came into play, especially for Reece, I also was not a huge fan of the way it all played out. Yes, I know plenty of men who get upset when their woman makes more money than they do, however it seemed to me as if Reece didn’t have a problem with it until Sydney told him her actual bottom line. I would have liked to see them talk it out more instead of get into the big blow out.
All in all I thought this Lyn book was a sweet debut. The romance was sweet and sexy at the same time, the characters were fun to read and cheer for. I hope that the secondary characters will be able to get a story of their own, as Lyn set them up well. I will be looking forward to more from Lyn in the future. I give Saving Sydney a B-
Some reviews come easier than others and Saving Sydney is certainly one of them. I am so pleased that the author approached me for this review. I can honestly say this is not something that would have caught my eye. I’m not a big fan of contemporary romance. This one leans heavily towards the erotic side of romances, but still I do prefer my paranormals. So, I am shocked that I loved this book as much as I did. It is so far outside of my normal reading box.
I absolutely loved the realism of Saving Sydney. These are very realistic people in very real situations. That has got to be one of the aspects that I liked most about this book. Sydney and Reece are in a realistic relationship. It starts off as two individuals who are attracted to each other. They acknowledge the sexual chemistry between them and begin a no strings sexual relationship.
Reece soon discovers he wants more than just great sex from Sydney. Sydney does not have the same feelings. She believes that she is happy with her life. Reece’s carefree attitude and the pure happiness that shows in his personality soon shows Sydney that there is more to life than what she has. The only problem is can she let go enough to let Reece in.
I loved this book! Books and authors like this make me so happy that I made the decision to blog reviews. I have opened myself and my blog up for authors to approach me, thus I get to share awesome little slices of a fictional couples fictitious life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a sweet romance, minimal conflict and heavy on the sexy erotic scenes.
The heroine reached adulthood mentally before she physically did. She is constantly cleaning up her divorced parents mess, not to mention her immature brothers. She is stressed and tired out but still keeps going and holding it all together. When she meets the hero things change and she finally is able to put herself and her relationship first. But as always, there is a lot of struggle before you get your happy ending.
It was a decent novel and nothing to be ashamed about but I think there was a lot of additives in the novel that didn't need to be there, in turn, it made the story boring and draggish.
