Ms. Voight was a native New Englander and lived in Hamden, Connecticut. She wrote many books for boys and girls, both fiction and non-fiction. Several of her books are set in the New England locale she loved so much.

A page-turning account of Chief Harold Tantaquidgeon’s life, with an emphasis on his time in the various military branches. Very much written in the “boy’s lit” style of the day, I actually thought it was part of the Landmark series at first. I was embarrassed to discover how little I knew about the Pacific front of WWII while reading this book. One star knocked off because the dated terminology for the natives of New Guinea was extremely hard to stomach. I wish they would reprint this, perhaps with a warning in front to account for the dated terms. I can’t imagine it seeing a reprint without addressing that in some form. Well worth reading for this with an interest in Indigenous American history and/or American military history.
