Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
Don't mind me, I'm just casually re-reading the entire manga for the 5th time or so because A) it's one of my comfort series and I need all the comfort I can get right now, B) I own the entire thing physically so it's right there, and C) everyone is talking about fall/ Halloween reads and SE fits that to a T.
Gonna give all the volumes 5 stars as a default. There's plenty I could complain about if I wanted, namely the unnecessary fanservice/ weird sexualization of teen characters, but I'm not gonna do that right now. It pops up rarely enough that I can just pretend it doesn't exist.
I really want them to be successful and everything but this whole thing just screams "chaos" and "trap" and "treason"... But also the entrance at the very end...damn I love all these characters, I really do
Super funny!! And I love the cover! (even though I don't own it!)
Kid, Maka, Soul, Liz, and Patty are in Arachniphobia's headquarters, disguised as Arachne soldiers. But what they don't expect is to go around doing chores as Arachne's workers! Very funny, I loved it!
Medusa starts her deal She’ll give Arachnes location if she has full control over the Baba Yaga mission She’s chosen who gets to go Maka and soul Kid and the twins Oz and his weapon Kilik with thunder and fire
Soul Eater, Vol. 12 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next four chapters (45–48) of the on-going manga series.
Medusa offers to lead a strike team into Baba Yaga's castle, Arachne's headquarters, and gives Shinigami the real Brew as a sign of good faith. Shinigami agrees and Maka Albarn, Death the Kid, Ox Ford, and Kilik Rung are assigned to the team. With Medusa's aid, the team manages to evade the perimeter defenses around Baba Yaga's castle and they successfully infiltrate it.
Medusa explains that there are eight locks to Arachne's throne room, and that the group will have to separate to destroy them. Ox Ford attempts to search for Kim Diehl, whom he has feelings for, in the castle. He finds her manipulated by a machine that lowers morality, and she stabs him, claiming her allegiance is to Arachnophobia.
The alarms in Baba Yaga's castle begin to activate as Black Star arrives, running straight through all the perimeter's defenses.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. It centers mainly on the mission to infiltrate Baba Yaga's castle – the headquarters for Arachnophobia. A small group, with the help of Medusa, makes it in the castle and circumnavigates the defense perimeters, but it was for not as Black Star arrives and runs through all the defenses – alerting Arachne.
All in all, Soul Eater, Vol. 12 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
I really laughed when I wanted to start reading this manga. The front page wasn't on the right side, so I almost read my book backwards Hahaha. I can't wait to continue reading, the plot is thickening a little bit, I can't wait to see what will happen with Medusa. Of course I have no confidence in her so I can't wait to see what bad move she is preparing.
They just gonna stab my boy Ox like that?! I will not stand for this. Kim and Jackie better get their heads right before coming back to DWMA. I get that they're brainwashed but you can't go around stabbing my favorite characters. And speaking of the total opposite of that, Black Star shows up at the very end. He's such a dick, tripping all the alarms and possibly ruining the plan. If he gets his ass kicked next volume, I will not be complaining.
So Medusa wants to help the DWMA infiltrate baba yaga's castle to kill arachne. Interesting. We've seen her be in the castle before so why does she need the students?
The operation to infiltrate was a success with no alarms but of course black star ruins the stealthy by being late and setting off all the alarms to get to the castle. At least it's a good distraction for the others.
On to the next book.

I do like the tense atmosphere that Medusa brings as Maka and the others are forced to work with her and even they know that they cannot trust her completely but still trust her enough because she is the only one who can lead them to Arachne and her weak points. It was kind of weird that the anime kept the Trade scene pretty intact but still a good tense atmosphere as they build up the next big fights.
don’t get me wrong I love the anime but this is so much juicier oh my god. actually getting to see them use the soul manipulator thingy on someone other than the kishin is awesome. also I can’t believe they actually let medusa have her way and take a group of students into baba yaga’s castle. there’s no way they’re not being played. BLACK STAR HAS ARRIVED YIPPEEEEE
Focused almost entirely on the assault on Baba Yaga castle--Arachnophobia's stronghold. Medusa is playing a game in some fashion to use the meisters and weapons to get back at Arachnophobia...not apparent when (or technically if) she will double cross yet.
Shinigami-sama enlists an unlikely ally to aid his students in assaulting Arachnophobia at their Baba Yaga castle. Humor, action, and intrigue, along with consistently excellent art, make this another good installment.
This volume is where I somehow lost interest in the plot. The characters all seem a bit too flimsy and not as interesting as I would like. I also think that currently the story is a bit all over the place.
This was another solid volume. There wasn't anything particularly impressive that occurred, but we're definitely nearing the climax of this arc and it's looking like it's gonna be a good one!
