The setting book details the center of the Known Worlds, the capital and seat of the Empire. There is no more important or intrigue-laden world, for here the fates of millions are determined and the destiny of humanity is in the hands of the royal ambassadors, Church priests, merchant princes, alien envoys and underground conspiracy groups - all vying for the Emperor's attention and favor. Includes new character roles for the Imperial Eye - the Emperor's intergalactic spies.

Unfortunately, this is a bad book. Most of the lore on Byzantium is disjointed, superficial and, most important of all, boring and uninteresting. Any experienced GM would do better and make up their own take on the capitol of the Empire or to take a quick glance at a wiki. The second bad thing is that it's heavily repetitive with what it says: we get it, the plot is that the planet floods so there are fights on the control of the land, and the romances of Alexius, and so on. And, together with that, the characters added in it are not particularly relevant outside their own plots, where are the House ambassadors? The relevant courtiers or guildmembers? The strucutural keys in the Church? And so on.

Even the plotlines suggested are bland and the book would have clearly done better without that chapter, giving that space to actually make something interesting with the setting and characters. Also, the Eye has a mini-chapter, too brief to say anything interesting, and outdated as far as rules go for the new editions, so it ends up being another (small) waste of space.
