Kicking the habit... After Lapis is rescued by Silica, he finds himself recuperating in Sable Mine, where a tyrannical ruler name Pyrope suppresses the people with a heavy water tax and threatens brutality and oppression if they don't pay up. To help the citizens who hunger for change, Lapis comes up with an ingenious plan to quench their thirst for justice.
This volume was much better than the previous two. Pretty much the whole reason for this was Pyrobe and Silica. I cared far more about their story than that of the protagonist. Their arc was so interesting and it was nice to see a Habit that wasn't just inherently bad, but more morally grey. He actually had valid reasons for his actions, even if his actions were still terrible. I would love to follow Silica for longer and was actually a bit disappointed when we returned to the protagonist.
