When KATE HARRIS moves to Long Beach California, she hopes to finally settle in her new home. She longs to have friends and fantasises about meeting the guy of her dreams. But after one dangerous night, Kate finds herself obsessing over a mysterious stranger who saves her life, and she embarks on a quest to uncover his identity. Kate is deeply intrigued by Jack, and begins to feel differently when she’s in his company. She is flattered by the attention he showers her with and enjoys her newfound confidence. And even though their relationship symbolises young love, Kate soon realizes that Jack is anything but normal.
When Jack is forced to reveal his many secrets, including the curse inflicted upon him by his twin brother, Sebastian, Kate begins questioning what is real and what is just a mere illusion.
Jack refuses to make peace with his brother, and warns Kate to stay away from him. But Kate is drawn to Sebastian, and if she betrays Jack, the consequences of her actions will lead to devastation for them all.
I love to write about the romance and seduction of the paranormal world, allowing my imagination to create some unforgettable characters.
My debut novel, Enigma (part one of a trilogy) is a must read for all YA fans! There are no vampires, werewolves, witches or ghosts though - so what could there be? I guess you'll have to read it to find out what an Enigma is!
Download Enigma on Amazon today along with part 2, Secrets and part 3, Forever!
I also have another trilogy which you can download too!
Hunted is the story of Cora, an orphaned girl who is special in more than one way. When she meets Logan her world is torn upside down in every way possible!
Part 2, Vanished and Part 3 Destiny are also available for download.
This review I feel is going to be really difficult to rate because I think since genre’s are always developing. YA for example, which for me has really come into the light recently in terms of their popularity, and some just haven’t hit that quality mark. If I was to rate this book on the plot then it would be very different to my review based on the characters but I’ll try my best. The book follows the relationship of Kate who is saved by a mysterious stranger; she then plots to find out who he really is. However, during her mission she meets the rather dashing and exciting Jack. As the book continues we see the love triangle develop and the dangers that it has created.
You can tell from the blurb that it’s quite a niche idea I think. It’s not one I’ve seen for a long time and I think the blurb really set me off for a really good read. The problem for me is that the book is written entirely in first person from Kate but, and this I think is due to the YA feel of it, she is so under-developed that the book especially the dialogue of the characters falls really flat. The book should really be full of emotional trauma, tension and suspense but the characters are so lacking that it really can’t be saved. There are also a hell of a lot of clichés used including the favourite biting of the bottom lip and collapsing into heaps on the floor. Exhausting.
Additionally, realising that I’m really writing this book off, the superpowers of the twins are not really being used for anything useful? You would think given super powers that they would be used for good, throw in a bit of action, a cliff-hanger or two and you’ve got an even better story that could have supported the characters better but no, na-da, they’re not really used at all. However, if I’m going to spin the positives I’ll go with this; the writing does move with pace and is at times gripping. The author throws in a couple of surprises and although Kate is a weaker character she is down-to-earth which is nice. The two males in the book were written with spirit and I could definitely see myself getting into an argument over who I preferred.
How am I going to sum this all up? I think it’s got good bits and bad. Unfortunately it’s too undeveloped and not thought through succinctly and that is a toughie because it is what ultimately supports the book on the whole. I thought Kate was a confusing character but she has potential and the author obviously knows what she needs to do just didn’t quite pull through. On an asthetic point the cover is awful; but I am glad I read this, just won’t be revisiting any time soon.
Enigma keeps you on your feet, once you start reading it, it's hard to put it down. While reading this, you almost wish the curse wasnt true that Jack and Kate could break it and still love each other. Your heart goes out to both brothers, especially with all the secrets and betrayal the endure. The relationships with Kate are swoon worthy, you want to put yourself in her place and have these two hot brothers competing for her attention.
When Kate starts college, she never imagined she would meet the guy that would sweep her off her feet and that she would love and do anything for. Jack Jones was well known around campus, he had a bad boy rep and couldn't be tamed, that was until Kate showed up and stole his heart. They were immediately drawn to each other and they fell hard for one another.
However, Kate didn't know that it was because of a curse that was bestowed on Jack by his twin brother Sebastien. You see, Jack and Sebastien are not normal, they are Enigmas with supernatural powers.
So, when Sebastien comes home all hell breaks loose, because not only did he curse his brother Jack, but he cursed himself. You see Sebastien put a curse on his brother that he would one day fall for a girl who would never truly fall for him and when she broke his heart, it would kill him. Literally!!! Now the other issue is that not only will Jack die but so will Sebastien.
Soon Kate realizes that the curse is real and that the feelings she has for Jack is only because of the curse, they're not real and she starts to fall for the one person Jack hates most, the one who cursed him, his twin brother. And now it's up to her to break this curse before Jack finds out.
This book started really well. I was immediately hooked when Kate started interacting with her calorie counting sister Heather. I thought the plot was good and the idea different and this kept me reading. I did however find the dialogue a little stilted and unnatural in places, as instead of using contractions such as 'I'll' and 'can't' the author opted for 'I will' and 'I cannot' which would have been fine if that kind of proper speech fit with the characters but it didn't. Overall this is a good read, with an interesting plot and two serious sets of eye candy.
This story is about two brothers with superpowers and the girl they fall in love with. The author states that she wanted to try and create something different. The parents are injected with a serum which accelerates their metabolism, making them fast, strong, with incredible hearing and eyesight. The mother then passes this ability onto her sons. To distinguish them from ordinary humans, they have purple blood and their eyes turn purple when they are annoyed. Jack is the womanising, jealous, possessive boyfriend who paints his brother Sebastian as vindictive. Yet, when we meet Sebastian, he proves to be the more rational and balanced of the two.
Tension is created when Sebastian inflicts a curse on his brother for stealing the woman that he loved. When Jack falls for Kate, his relationship is blighted by this curse and the only solution appears to be to administer the serum to her. It is not clear how being superhuman breaks the curse and this is the weakness of the story. The ending also feels a little unfinished with Sebastian and Kate getting together, Jack leaving and the discovery that their mother is still alive. There is no definitive proof that the curse is broken, only an assumption and the introduction of parents only serves as a cliffhanger to sell the next book.
The first book in The Enigma trilogy. Kate moves to start a life where she hopes for happiness and love. When a mystery man saves her life, she embarks upon a mission to find him. Meanwhile, she meets her new neighbour, Jack, who is anything but straightforward. He has many secrets, including a curse!
This book was an easy read with a sweet but predictable love story. However, I did enjoy some of the unexpected twists. I found myself getting agitated with Jack's anger and controlling behaviours though along with Kate's stubbornness...
FIRST OFF,The story here was a different idea, so I liked that. But the beginning was a bit rushed for me. KATE AND Jack have this completely engrossing relationship too quickly. I mean they are in love in like 5 minutes. Jake saves KATE from being drowned, then tells her to stay away from him. Naturally shes seeing hot guy and thinks screw that I'm not going anywhere. So they start dating, quickly fall in love, and Jack tells her bit by bit about his super powers.he's an Enigma....what that is I'm not sure, but it sounds cool right ???'so after a while we find out he has a twin brother Sebastian, who he betrayed by sleeping with his brothers girl.Sebastian cursed Jack. SO BECAUSE of this curse we find out that KATE is in love with Jack, an will break his heart because of the curse.so what they feel for each other is not really love. But the curse which will kill the brothers if KATE breaks Jacks heart. Sebastian in all his hotness shows up to make amends with his brother. And well he's pretty much Kate's perfect match. she falls in love with him, boom!!! Now what do they do.? Jack loves KATE, KATE loves Sebastian, and Sebastian loves KATE. And there is still a curse.so the story goes on from there. I liked the general story here, and it got much better after Sebastian enters the picture. I like his character, I found Jack very annoying. But I don't think he deserves the way things go down between him, KATE, and Sebastian. At some point I'm wondering how KATE is about to get busy With Jack then she's about to let Sebastian hit it.????? Again despite my confusion over some of the story line here I did like the book, and I hope part two comes out so I can see where it ends. I do like KATE and Sebastian together I just think they were a bit conniving towards the end. We will see how it goes. I would recommend this book. It was a good read.
I was completely surprised while reading this story how addicting it can be. Aimee has written a story so crafty that it can put you in a reading trance. Enigma is definitely a story like none other. I love the unexpected feel to it and not knowing what it going to happen. So to sum this up without giving anything away will be hard. Kate, somewhat humbled spoiled rich girl, moves to CA with her family during her first year of college. I actually really like her character, a bit needy but definitely one to admire. She meets Jack, her neighbor. Jack is too a college student, but he is different. Kate doesn’t have the most loving family. Actually they don’t love at all except to themselves, which is why Kate falls so hard for Jack. He shows and gives her all the love and affection a person should have. Falling for Jack proves to give more than just heart ache. It is deadly. Seb, Jacks brother is tied to Jack’s fate, which now falls into Kate’s hands. No pressure. When Kate finds that there is a reason for her attraction to Jack, she realizes that she might have fallen for the wrong brother. That’s all I can say without ruining the story. If you like adventure, mystery, suspense and drama, then you need to read this.
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS - SORRY! Initially I thought this was a bit Twilight-y and predictable; slightly dull, non-conforming girl falls in love with popular, seemingly perfect boy only to discover he's a vampire or a werewolf or something. I was partly right, but this novel was a lot more imaginative than that. Turns out that while pregnant with twins Jake and Seb; their parents were injected with an adrenalin based drug that affected them all, providing super speed, super strength and the inability to feel pain. The problem being, that Seb has cursed Jake so that the girl he truly falls in love with will break his heart and kill them both... This was quite interesting and not entirely the mushy, fluffy read that I had been expecting. It was a bit more scientific, had a bit more substance to it than other examples of the paranormal romance genre. My main criticism was that Kate seemed to fall in love with Jake gradually, but her switch to being in love with Seb seemed instantaneous and there was too little build up for it to be plausible. Will definitely read the next instalment.
Before I start, I will say don't be deterred that the characters in this book are young adults. I'm in my mid 30's and I loved it. This was one of those books where I found myself muttering 'just one more chapter' trying to convince myself that I could put it down and start on the housework (and failed miserably).
If you are a fan of Twilight or the Providence series this is definitely a book for you. It's well written, fast paced, gripping, holds many (unpredictable) surprises and the characters are very easy to grow fond of. Kate is down to earth, a little weak yet has the capability to be strong and is easy to care about. I was torn over my feelings for Jack and Sebastian, don't get me wrong they are wonderful characters, but it is a roller coaster of which one you love/not love so much, based on the situation. But I did feel for them both.
Shall definitely be reading the next book as soon as its published as I think we have only scratched the surface of what is in store.
this book started out real good. it was exciting and I was defiantly interested. kate harris moves to a new town and is starting college. strange things start happening and she knows it has something to do with her hot neighbor jack. finally she gets some answers and jack reveals he is not entirely human. oooo I was reeled in...I love stories like this. but then it all went downhill from there. kate and jack fall in love like immediately...but its cause of a curse...then everything starts happening way to fast...it was interesting but kinda stupid how everything happens...with no build up, no story line...I was wanting to hurry up and read it to finish it. I'm still interested in what hapens in the next books but there are only available on amazon...I use b&n...so I've got to figure out how to get them...kinda too much trouble.

This book was really good from the start. Kate moves to long beach and meets Jack who saves her life. He is sexy, gorgeous and funny. Kate is attracted to him from the start but she knows that there’s something he's not telling her. Jack reveals that he's not human but in fact he's an Enigma. When she meets Seb, Jack's twin brother, she starts to question her feelings for Jack as she is drawn to Seb. I loved this story as it had romance but paranormal element to it as well. Kate did annoy me sometimes as she never seemed to know what she wanted and sometimes didn't know her own mind. The story took a few twists which i never expected but overall a really great read.
I'm down with paranormal romance, but this one fell quite flat for me.
COLLEGE: I've never heard someone refer to "college" so much; "we arrived at college" "you will see him at college on Monday" This made it very hard to relate. We say "Class" and "School." I've never heard of lockers or prom at a university, either.
WEAK HEROINE: I don't want to read about a girl who constantly feels like she isn't pretty enough for the man of her dreams. Come on.
SUPPORTING CHARACTERS: While Aimee was able to paint the picture of family and friends, the way it was written made me just want to move on to something else.
CURSE? For such a strong plot point, it seems unbelievable. Not sure how adrenaline can give someone the ability to curse.
I don't know how to feel about this book because on one hand it was completely absurd and I personally didn't feel that the paranormal aspect of the story was intriguing or creative and I felt that the storyline was lacklustre, however, the book was completely addicting. The romance, the drama and the complete ridiculousness of it all had me craving more. It did feel like, at points, that there were a lot of plot lines that were unnecessary and didn't drive the story to another goal or serve any other purpose than for a simple dramatic thrill. I won't want to rate it any higher than 3 stars because it wasn't a book that blew me away but it deserves 3 stars for the entertainment that it provided me throughout the day.
Enigma is a supernatural romance involving a love triangle between a girl named Kate and twin brothers named Sebastian and Jack. Sebastian is the dark haired, motorcycle riding brother who puts a curse on Jack. I don't want to give too many of the details away, but I thought this was an interesting story line and the characters were good. Of the two brothers, I found myself being drawn to Sebastian just like Kate. All in all, I thought this was a good book and I would like to read more from this author.
I received a copy of this book FREE on Amazon, so if you liked reading my review of the book go check it out for yourself.
I just can't finish this book, I tried and forced myself to continue but I can't. I can only handle so much when my brain cells are dying out.
First impression? Twilight much? The move, the almost non existent family unit, new school, cliff diving, insta-love, love you hate you, love triangle, blah, blah, blah. Don't get me wrong, I love the twilight series but this book just grates on my nerves.
What annoyed me the most were the characters, they don't feel genuine at all. Most of the time I felt that the characters were reading from a script, the flow of the conversation doesn't feel natural and that they were too much contrived.
Meet Kate, a young woman new to Long Beach. She's sweet, smart and drawn to her handsome new neighbor, Jack. But Jack comes with a secret... and a dark twin brother. "Enigma" is an appropriate title for this supernatural romance. Though this is a good book for all romance readers, I would highly recommend it for fans of Vampire Diaries and Twilight books. With its intriguing characters and naughty allure, Jack, Kate & Sebastian reminded me of the Stefan-Damon-Elena love triangle. Great free read!
Definitely a story within a story filled with suspenseful moments and the angst of dysfunctional families and teenage love. An immortal born because of his parent's mistake, Jack, is not allowed to love or he will die when his heart breaks. Despite his impending doom, Kate and Jack are drawn to each other and refuse to be denied... until she meets Sebastian. Add finding lost family members, pregnancy with a mystery dad, and the possibility of turning immortal and it all leads up to the next book in the series. A stand-alone novel it is not but well worth reading the rest of the series.
Oh my Lord. I stopped at 68% because it was getting way too ridiculous. Seb is suppose to be a nice guy so what the hell is he doing?! And this girl must be shallow. I still don't know why she fell in love with either of them. And what makes her so special. I actually feel sorry for Jack.
I think the concept for this was pretty good and it could have been great but it was just too much. I did not like the writing style. I felt like it was written by a teenager. And the characters were just... Hmm... Flat. There wasn't anything likeable about anyone.
This was offered on Amazon as one of their free downloads. I have found quite a few books that I have liked as a result of free downloads, but I have to admit that this wasn't one of them. Quite a bit of the book seemed as if it was trying to appeal to the Twilight lovers. I thought the "curse" in the book was slightly silly. Kate seemed to genuinely like Jake for a while until his motorcycle riding brother showed up. Her insta-love with Sebastian was just silly. She seemed totally obsessive with whomever she was in love with. It seemed very unhealthy.
I downloaded this book after reading a recommendation and I'm pleased I did. I looked at a few reviews and saw a few people compare it to twilight, I guess a few elements might be similar but I didn't think about that as I was reading at all. What I did think as I was reading though was that Seb was based on Damon Salvatore from vampire diaries! Not that I'm complaining ;) Looking forward to the next book
I think the sound of the book was better than it actually was. Looking at the series as a whole, the main character came across as a bit of a cow at times. The story was good but at the end, everything kind of fell into place a bit too perfectly - as if the author decided this was what was going to happen and just had a tick list, then at the end, tick tick tick....... I probably wouldn't read this again but I didn't mind reading it.
I actually ended up liking this book. I never heard of Aimee Ash before but I picked this up on Kindle and decided to give it a shot.
The book started off a little slow and took a bit to get into. But then as you read, everything starts to come together and has a great pace throughout the rest of the book.
This was one of those books that the premise was much better than the execution. I felt no connection to any character. I normally read daily, but with this book I didn't feel bad for not reading for a couple days, it just never grabbed me. I am hoping the next book will be better since this one felt more like a build up chapter than a stand alone book
Read it. For a free book it was real good. Needs some editing and a good spell check by a human. The errors I read we're not the type caught by a program. It is a good story and I look forward to paying for the sequel.
