Tucked away in Sofie’s wintery asylum with no hope of release for years, Evangeline must come to terms with her situation: the curse still plagues her, she’s now hunted by a two thousand-year-old vampire, and the guy she’s in love with tried to kill her. Plus, she’s locked up with a cranky Max and the Forero kids—two people everyone seems to prefer dead over alive. Things aren’t looking good.

Meanwhile, back in Manhattan, Sofie struggles to keep forty trapped and bloodthirsty Ratheus vampires at bay and a desperate Viggo from killing Evangeline’s friends, all while hints stir outside the walls of the NYC vampire asylum of a war brewing between the Sentinel and the witches.

Is there any hope for Evangeline and Caden? Can Sofie control the rival powers? Is the fate of Earth predestined?

Asylum was so well written and much more faced paced and exciting than Athema. I felt connected to the characters so much more after reading book two and have already picked allegiance up to start as soon as I finish.

Evangeline has grown on me a lot more and I’m glad that she’s slowly developing as a character. I absolutely adore Mage and Max who’s sarcasm and good humour make the book hilarious in parts.

I fell in love with Sofie this book who I didn’t really take to in the first one. Good name by the way haha.

Overall asylum was a great read that kept me turning pages and getting in trouble at work for taking longer lunches because I needed to get through it

After epic ending of Anathema, I started 2nd book immediately because I needed to know what woul happen to characters.
"Am I stupid? For believing them?"
Leo chuckled softly. "No, my dear Evangeline. You are far from stupid. Naive, absolutely. But it's born out of an enormous heart and an enduring need to believe the best of people. Not stupidity."

I was surprised that after everything Evangeline went through and found out in previous book, she stayed the same sweet and trusting girl. Her naivety was getting on my nerves from time to time a little bit, but I never got to dislike her. After all, I am sure all her actions will have some deeper meaning, sooner or later.

But other characters shined brightly in this book. Especially Sofie, whom POV was regularly alernating with Evangeline's POV in Asylum. Sofie was loyal, strong and determined. After this book I am definitely Team Sofie!

The only negative aspect of this book was the lack of Caden. At least I missed him since I fell in love with him in Anathema. But when he was present, it was definitely worth it!
"Then he turned to whisper, "Tell her nothing makes sence without her."

Asylum is another page turner by K.A. Tucker. There was more action, more excitement, more suspence and plenty of new info revealed. Storyline was just perfect! All those twists... I have no idea how things are going to develop in next instalments of Casual Enchantment series.

I was a beta reader for Asylum (Causal Enchantment #2) a few months back, and the book is simply AMAZING!

I loved, and I mean I ABSOLUTELY LOVED, K.A.’s first book, Anathema (Causal Enchantment #1), and I didn't want to wait even a single day longer than necessary to start her next book, Asylum, but it wasn’t even close to being published!!! So, when K. A. Tucker asked me to be a beta reader for Asylum, I was absolutely thrilled! And she didn't disappoint me ONE BIT! I think I can honestly say that I loved Asylum more than Anathema. Shocker, right?

K. A. Tucker only gave me one chapter at a time to read, but EVERY SINGLE chapter was fabulous, and each and every chapter made me crave for more! Asylum is written not only from Evangeline’s POV (Anathema's protagonist), but it’s also written from Sophie’s POV (a witch turned vampire), and each chapter moves quickly and dazzlingly back and forth between each character’s POV.

The intensity, action and intrigue that K.A. has created is brilliantly developed throughout the entire book, and I loved how K. A. Tucker had me consistently questioning myself over and over again about who should be trusted!!! I grew attached to several more characters in Asylum, but I can’t tell you who those characters are because it would spoil some of the twists in this amazing book!

And speaking of twists, there are some TOTALLY AWESOME twists in Asylum, which is another reason why I ABSOLUTELY love K.A. Tucker's books and writing style.

Lastly, I was thrilled that so many of the questions that arose from Anathema were so cleverly answered in Asylum. AND, the best part?! K. A. Tucker ended Asylum so perfectly that I once again ABSOLUTELY crave another book in this fabulous series! So get writing Kathleen!!!! LOL!

This is a series that I have already told more than a few people to read, and I'll keep on pimping out this fabulous series!

Book 2 in the Casual Enchantment series, this book picks up right where Anathema left off.

Quick plot recap…

This book is written in the dual POV of Evangeline and Sophie, and I really liked the split story. Honestly, Evangeline’s side of things is kinda boring in this one, so being able to follow Sophie through her adventures keeps things interesting. Plus, I really enjoyed getting to see inside her head as we come to fully understand her feelings and motivations.

There’s a lot more overall character exploration in this book which leads to some great surprises. Evangeline’s friends from Ratheus are all a part of the story, including the gorgeous Caden, although the romance is not so prominent in this book with our two lovers separated for most of the story - but it’s still there, and it’s progressed well. The bad guys from the first book are also back and just as evil as always with their plotting and betrayal. And I loved that we got to see so much more of Max - OMG, he’s such a great character! I want one!

Again, there are lots of twists and turns in the story, and some huge game-changing plot developments (some awesome, some devastating). The full background of Ratheus and the threat to earth are revealed, the danger of the witches are fully realized, and let’s not forget the ever-growing danger of the Sentinel – a group who are out to rid the world of vampires, and who make their presence violently known. It all blends together and builds to an exciting ending that is going to lead on to even more twists and turns in future books. It’s all looking very exciting for the rest of the series, and I can’t wait to continue on.

4 stars.

Asylum picks up where Anathema left us and man, so many things happen during this book that I am sitting here shaking my head wondering "when will I get my hands on the next one?"....
Evangeline is such a great character that you love reading about her. Also in this book, we have alternating POVs and are allowed the chance to know more about Sofie. It is so amazing to learn all that she has done for the events to come to where they are in Asylum. Plus, all the other little secrets that come out during Asylum; I was so taken aback and surprised at how some of the characters have changed. But within those changes the love of one couple remains and my heart filled with joy near the end of the book...Of course, I am am now aching for the next installment...
Asylum offers a reader so much that I definitely recommend this series to anyone!!! Action, intrigue, love, suspense, and of course, vampires...This is a definite MUST READ!!!

Oh my, I could NOT get my hands on this book fast enough! I read the first one in a day (well more like one night) and the next morning I was going crazy trying to get this one! Ahhh what to say without giving away hints?

Oh man I cant even collect my thoughts to write what I liked about this book.

Can I just say I love Sofie! I loved Mage, I loved every character...well not everyone. But I feel like each character was so well defined! I thought I really liked Eve, but after reading the 2nd book I think Sofie is my favorite!

This book did not drag for a min! I mean I read it in under 24 hrs. And it's 538 pages and it's not like I could just sit and read all day. I had class, Work, and I am a mom! Every free second I had I was reading! I was addicted to this series. I can't believe I have to wait a year for the 3rd!

Evangeline is stuck in a winter cabin in Siberia. Sophie is stuck in a mansion in New York. Rachel is still a bitch. The end.

You'd think having been a vampire for hundreds of years would have made these people intelligent.

Oh, and Evangeline, still pothole level personality. Dumb and insanely naive. I mean, how many times will she make the same mistake until she stops being dumb. Maybe that's what the author is going for because she's 18 but come on! It's a bit ridiculous

(Originally Posted on RabidReads.com in 2014)In the last two days, I re-read the first in this series, Anathema, and enjoyed it all over again. Then I read this one and also enjoyed it. Anyone that has read the Ten Tiny Breaths series by this author, already knows what a good author K.A.Tucker is, so it was a no-brainer that I was going to read this series. She is becoming one of my go to authors for sure.

Evangeline is an eighteen year old orphan who got involved with Sophie in the last book. Sophie is a witch turned vampire, that pretty much tricked Evangeline into going to New York with her for a job that didn’t exist. She found herself living with three vampires and were-beasts in the shape of huge dogs. One of them, Max becomes her protector and a good friend with a funny personality at times. And oh yeah, he talks in Evangeline’s mind. He ended up being one of my favorite characters. From the beginning, she goes to another world in her dreams, a world where the only inhabitants are vampires, but one that closely mirrors our world. The human population has been completely wiped out by vampires. She meets and befriends a small group of vampires and one of them, Caden, ends up being the one she falls in love with. A magical necklace that Sophia put around her neck keeps her safe from vampires.

This time around, Evangeline has managed to bring back her group of friends, not knowing that about forty others have come along for the ride. Not good news, since they haven’t tasted human blood in seven hundred years. Sophia has locked them all in the mansion that she and the two old (and horrible)vampires live in. Big problem? If they feed off each other, they morph into something that CAN and WILL escape. And what they morph into is not pretty. Sophia sends Evangeline magically away from the melee that’s happening at her home. She ends up in a cabin in the middle of a Siberian winter along with most of the humans(staff and visitors) from the New York home. Think things can’t happen in the middle of nowhere? Think again!

The story is told from two points of view this time. We get both Evangeline’s and Sophie’s POV’s. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like hearing from Sophie’s POV, but it really worked and we really understand a lot more about Sophie and her motivations.

It might seem that I have told a lot about the story, but not so much about the second book actually. There’s so much going on in this book. We have evil witches, not so evil witches, evil vampires, and not so evil vampires involved. There’s even a secret society who’s sole purpose is to eradicate vampires. K.T. Tucker writes a tight story, that is very well written with good characters. I would say that this is for older young adults and adults, due to the amount of violence. I really liked it and will be reading the next one as soon as my tbr pile will allow me to.

(Note: I tried not to share any spoilers. I do reference the first book Anathema. I would hate to ruin this book for you. It is a very good story to read.) I received this book as an E-ARC from the author, I was very lucky to win it as part of a contest.

This is the second book in KA Tucker’s Casual Enhancement series. And all I can say to is hold on tight because this takes you for one heck of ride.

This story picks up right where Anathema stops. Evangeline is learning to deal with her new surroundings. She was exiled to an unknown location by Sophie when she returned from Ratheus (with company). Her only companions are Leo, Max, Julian and a few others. She is forced to relive the last moments with Caden over and over or die from boredom. Half way around the world, Sophie is now alone in New York, left to deal with the Ratheus vampires, and the duo of Viggo & Mortimer. Sophie’s actions at the end of Anathema reveal she loves Evangeline, like a daughter, and will go to the ends of the earth to protect her. As expected, V&M are not happy Sophie has been lying to them and that Evangeline is gone. They have waited too long to for their love, Veronique. Now, Sophie must deal with the Ratheus vampires, V&M and discover how to free Evangeline from the curse.

We continue to learn more about the characters especially Evangeline, Caden, and Sophie. I will say I liked how these characters grew with the story. We do meet several new characters including Mage and Julian. I like these new characters, especially Mage. Her character really adds to this story and I can’t wait to see how she impacts the next book. KA Tucker has a phenomenal way of giving human emotion to her characters, I felt connected to them as I read this story.

Once again, I was blown away with how 2 separate stories are weaved together to give you this mind blowing ending. The ending to this book literally had me at the edge of my seat. I was not disappointed to where the story ended. My only disappointment is I have to wait until next year to find out what happens.

First Thought: I still want to punch Viggo in the damn face!

After finishing Anathema I, every so patiently, hounded K.A. until I knew when Asylum would be out! There was just something about Anathema that grabbed a hold of me and didn't let go until the end. It was such a breath of fresh air when it came to vampires & I've never seen someone mesh current day with dystopia quiet the way she did.

After the mind-blowing ending in Anathema I was expecting HUGE things in Asylum....and boy was I disappointed! Coming back to Viggo & Morts house, which is now infested with blood thirsty vampires, you are getting everything from Sofie's POV. She's struggling to keep Evangeline's location secret, while making sure that Caden & his friends stay off of Viggo's radar. With bombs, mutants and a the "Race of Death", Sofie finds the struggle to keep things balanced harder than she expected. But she finds a friend somewhere completely out of the blue, and it's kind of nice to actually she her find one for once.

Meanwhile, back in the middle of feckin' no where, Evangeline is trying to avoid going stir crazy with he lovely cabin companions......even though Caden isn't with Evangeline you know that he is influencing her every move.
So in this cabin from hell, you have so many different personalities it's amazing that they last as long as they do before.....OH can't tell ya, but damn it's a GREAT surprise!

Needless to say this book was UH-MAZE-ING! It had me going up and then down. My emotional radar was all over the feckin' place, you'd think I was pregnant with how back and forth my emotions went! K.A. took it places I never saw coming, her ability to create such diverse characters floors me. The only thing that I could have asked for was book #3!
So now the wait begins......

There are unavoidable spoilers for book 1, Anathema in this review)

Asylum is book 2 in the Casual Enchantment series; the first being Anathema. Asylum picks immediately after the events of book 1, Anathema. Evangeline along with Max, Leo the two Forero kids (though they are not actually children as in under the age of 18) and a few servants are safely in seclusion in a cabin. I have to say that if I ever had to go into hiding, I can think of worse ways to spend my time. The cabin and its surroundings sound amazing.

We get to hear the story through the points of view of Evangeline and Sofie this time. I really enjoyed having an insight into Sofie and how much she cares for Evangeline. Sofie is stuck dealing with all of the vampires that Evangeline brought through from Ratheus. Caden and the other friends that Evangeline made there are having trouble adjusting to Earth and getting control of their blood lust. Sofie has to decide if she can trust them or if they just used Evangeline to get to Earth. While Sofie is dealing with the new vampires she still has to deal with Mortimer and Viggo. They are incredibly angry with Sofie for helping Evangeline escape and are doing everything in their power to find her.

I really enjoyed Mage and what she brings to the story. We find out along with Sofie if Mage is going to be a friend or enemy and I think that was a great plot line. There were some interesting surprises in this one for me but I don't want to spoil anything for new readers. I will just say that there was a lot that surprised me this time and I loved that! I did still get to love to hate Rachel, she is the worst! Of course that is what makes her a great villain. It is going to be a long and torturous wait for the third installment!

BOTTOM LINE: I loved it and can not wait for the next book in the series!

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to K. A. Tucker, and Supagurl blog tours.)
This is book 2 in the ‘Causal Enchantment’ series, and picks up where book 1 ‘Anthema’ left off.
**Warning – some unavoidable spoilers for book 1 ‘Anathema’**
At the end of Anathema, Sofie had magically transported Evangeline to the middle of nowhere to keep her safe, whilst Sofie herself dealt with the glut of ravenous vampires that Evangeline had managed to bring through from Ratheus to Earth.
Now, with Evangeline safe, it’s up to Sofie to sort out the Ratheus vampires, and to determine if Caden’s feelings for Evangeline are real.
How long will it take Viggo and Mortimer to find out where Evangeline is hidden? Can Sofie really sort out 120 Ratheus vampires by herself? And what of the mysterious Mage?

I enjoyed this book. It was nice to catch up with Evangeline and Sofie again and to see the progression of their story.
I was initially a little confused as the narrative starts with Sofie in this book, where previously it had mainly been with Evangeline, but I soon worked out what was going on!
Evangeline doesn’t see a whole lot of action in this book compared to the first, she’s stuck in some cabin in the middle of nowhere, whilst Sofie is the one in the thick of things. We learn quite a bit more about Sofie in this book, as well as Ratheus – the parallel world where Caden and the other vampires were living. Sofie seems to have really deep maternal feeling for Evangeine, that I don’t fully understand, to the extent that she would choose Evangeline’s life over that of her own sister Veronique.
Some questions were answered in this book, as were some problems, only it seems that as problems are solved, more develop!
Overall; a good second instalment.

Asylum --book two in the Casual Enchantment series-- continues Evangeline's journey trying to break a curse that would be the end of her. Not only does she have to deal with a curse, she's being hunted by a thousand year old vampire, and the man she falls in love with can't control his blood lust and tries to kill her.

The concepts evolving in this series keep growing. Kathleen has introduced many characters and creatures that we are sure we'll learn more about in the final book in the series.

The Tribe, are fascinating creatures. They are proof that Kathleen's imagination has no limits, and that she could evolve with her books evolving along side her.

Kathleen proved her ability to write about romance in Anathema --book one in the Casual Enchantment series-- but she challenged herself and filled this book with adventure. Many friendships sprout, but "trust" is the major theme in this book. Evangeline doesn't know who to trust, and the people she chooses to trust are not who they're pretending to be. Most of all the one she trusts the most tries to kill her.

Kathleen continues to surprise us with her plot twists and turns. Every time a problem is resolved a newer more prominent one crawls to the surface.

One major surprise, is the Vampires --from Earth-- fate becomes very clear (we wont't tell you why, read the book and find out). Will Evangeline and her friends be able to change that fate? What will happen to Veronique? And what will Evangeline do about the Curse and the one she loves?

This is told both in Evangeline and Sofie's POV, and usually I'm not that big a fan of more than one POV, but in this case I found it to be well done.

Evangeline is still in the middle of nowhere with Max, Leo and the two Forero siblings - Julian and Valentina - while Sofie is still at the house in New York, trying to keep the vampires that came with Evangeline from Ratheus in check.
Viggo and Mortimer are still quite the bastards, I don't expect them to change at all, though in the end they were slightly mollified at a recent turn of events.

I really began to like Mage, as well. I was curious about her in
Anathema, there was something about her that was really interesting. This book shows what that is.

There's a lot of action, twists, and loss in Asylum and that's why it really stood out to me. I do wonder how they're going to get around the latest thing to happen to Evangeline, though. But I have faith in Sofie to fix it :) And how everyone will react when they find out the truth about Julian.

Can't wait to read Allegiance!

I received this book from the author. Here is my honest review:

Man I enjoyed this book! I loved the first one, and I really loved this one too. Evangeline's journey gets more interesting as she's hidden in the middle of nowhere with Leo, Max, and the Forero siblings. Sofie is trying to hold down the fort in NYC with all the vamps that came over from Ratheus, plus Viggo and Mortimer. Told from Sofie's and Evangeline's POV, Asylum picks up right where Anathema left off and doesn't skip a beat. New characters are introduced, and old ones make bigger appearances. Plus, there's a section in here were you want to kill the evil lady who wrote this book until we find out the TRUTH!

KA Tucker never disappoints. She's obviously a skilled writer, as this novel is very well-written. Her technique leaves readers in shock and screaming for more by the end. She has a unique take on a well-worn topic: vampires. Witches and magic are involved, and Sofie even meets her match in Mage. It's deliciously complicated and deviously addictive. I highly recommend this series!!!

This was an AMAZING sequel!! I am always a little worried when I pick up the second book in a series that it won't be as good as the first, but this one was absolutely perfect! I love that we got to know Sofie a little better in this book. Since her & Evangeline are apart for some of this book, we get several chapters from her perspective. It was great to finally get to see what she's really like and learn a little more about her motives. And while there can never be enough Caden, we do get to see how he and the others are adjusting to the new world and if they have any hope of being around Evangeline again. This book was full of action from beginning to end, there were some wonderfully happy moments and some really sad ones, too. Not to mention a couple of surprises that you could never see coming!

Asylum leaves you more invested in the characters than the first book, Anathema. Especially since half the story is told from Sofie's perspective(which I loved). Once again the book is riddled with twists that you weren't expecting, that leave you frantically reading to see what the outcome may be. Tucker has a way of pouring the emotions into her characters that makes you feel it(from all angles). This is definitely not a typical vampire book, the Casual Enchantment series is way, way more than you can ever expect. Everyone should do themselves a favor. . . start reading these exceptional books!

I am hooked on this series, so many different stories woven together and one twist after another. There was more action and magic in this second book and setting the scene for book 3 with the war imploding on the scene in New York. There was minimal romance but considering the distance it was understandable as Evangeline is hidden away for most of the book for her safety and Caden has to overcome his bloodlust. The ending just set us up with more questions than answers and I am looking forward to finding out if Evangeline does become a vampire. I am disappointed that I have to wait till 2013 to read the next installment but I will definitely be buying that one as soon as it is released.

This is a brilliant second installment to her fabulous series and the ride she takes you on is awesome and you wont want to get off. Get ready to be sucked in to another amazing read by K.A. Tucker!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ok, now that I got that out... once again, I'm torn at the end, waiting for the story to continue. I love this series. I started book 2 thinking I knew where it was going. I was wrong! In fact, every time I guessed at what would happen, I was wrong. It was unpredictable all the way through. As annoyed as I was with Evangeline's naive-ness (word?), I felt like I'd have done the same things in her position. I could definitely relate to her and, as a mother, Sofie as well. I cant wait for book 3, it will surely be as wonderful or moreso than the first two!

My only complaint is that the next book isn't out yet. I need answers to the cliffhangers. I guess I'll just have to wait, but I'm not a very patient person.

This book was such a fantastic follow-up to the first book. The plot thickens and the story ends with so many unanswered questions. A lot of questions that were left open in the first book are answered and you get such great world development and explanations about things. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for more.

I literally could not put this down, well, except for when I spilled soup on my iPad. I don't think I'll ever be able to formulate a coherent thought about this book, so do me and yourself a favor and just read it. It makes Anathema seem almost boring...almost. Now the hard part will be waiting another year to finally see how this all plays out. That and getting matzo out of my iPad case...

Great second book, picking right up from where Anathema left off. The incredible action kept me moving along. It was a little confusing at first hopping between Evangeline and Sophie but it turned out to be just the right way to keep the action moving. Can't wait for the next...unfortunately that won't be until 2013.
