I was pleasantly surprised when I received the package containing this book. The author placed it in a pretty pink bag with curly ribbons and pretty paper. She also enclosed a very nice atomizer to hold the perfume of my choice. She went to extra lengths in order to represent her ideas of fragrances and relationships with Christ. I agree with her explanations of the importance and meanings of different fragrances associated with Christ. Explaining how our minds and spiritual self thinks and acts where there is a certain fragrance. I understand where she was going when comparing our choices in scents and our connection to Christ. She obviously did a great deal of research to back up her findings. Essential Oils ( which are of course, fragrant ) play an important part in natural healing and our overall health. The author made it clear that she made mistakes in some life choices and that she is a single Mother. That is not an uncommon situation in our world. I don't think it has ever been honestly. I respect her that she has raised this child to know God and is a loving mother. As I read deeper in this book, I was actually shocked at how descriptive she was in many examples of her sexual experience. I was deeply offended when she referred to some of her behaviors as using God for a booty call. I think I get where she was going with that, but to reference God in that manner is just not a good option in any circumstance for a Christian writer. She also referred to a man's sexual organ and I just cannot wrap my head around how that does anything for the Glory of God. I must close in saying that I would not recommend this book to anyone, especially a baby Christian or young person. I do not think that this type of tone and reference would ever be part of an effective tool to help women of any age further their relationship with Christ.
Many women love perfume. . .and they try to select a perfume that fits their body and personality. Robin T. Smith in Perfumed Letters relates women's perfume to women's anointing from God. She uses the Bible to illustrate just how God creates each of us in our own scents to be pleasing to the Lord.
Perfumed Letters is a series of short chapters, essays if you will, that relate perfume and fragrance to a Christian woman's life. Smith shares from the Bible and from her personal life through the book to help other women see how they can have a scent that draws others to Christ and is most pleasing to Him. At the end of each chapter, Smith offers a "reflection" section where she gives a few closing thoughts to remember and offers some questions to think about.
As a whole, Perfumed Letters is an interesting book relating perfume and fragrance information that seems to be well-researched to the life of a Christian Woman. There is a lot of Scripture and a lot to think about and reflect on as it relates to one's own life. At the same time, Smith does share a lot of intimate details about her own life as a single mom. I think that could be helpful to other single moms but there were times where I felt she gave me too many intimate details about her life and I felt a bit uncomfortable with that. Also, I thought this book was going to be about using perfumes and fragrances but it is mostly about relating fragrance to living the Christian woman's life.

My Review
I loved the initial presentation, with the small perfume bottle, gift wrapping, and the lovely bag. My first impression was positive. I liked the connections the writer begins with regarding the extraction of aromas and their many uses, and I was excited to read about disease treatments and other uses of perfumed oils! I like the suggested correlation between natural scents and the spiritual realm, sexual references notwithstanding! The idea of scents and aromas opened a whole new line of purposeful study for me.
The presentation was marred by the many sexual descriptions. The descriptions of unmarried sexual encounters and sex organs prompted me to recommend a warning to parents. Christians do not engage in sexual exhibitionism and they certainly should not write about sexual exploits in reference to the Spirit of God -as if God were the sexual partner.

My Review: We as women are so incredibly loved by a most fantastic and loving Father. Perfumed Letters, is a very unique book in that uses the process of making or creating perfume and uses it to show the correlation through witch God refines us and makes us truly permeable to Him and for His glory. The author takes several examples from the Bible to show us in a mighty way that we are a work in progress chosen to do a mighty work for the One who chose us. We all have those jobs in our lives that we busy ourselves with day in and day out but then there is also that work we are anointed to do that goes above and beyond our daily tasks.
With her sassy wit and charm, Ms. Robin T Smith, inspires us to embrace our anointing's and shine for our Creator. She informs us just as her grandmothers did her that when the evil one steps in to override what the Father tells us that we are to keep on going, NEVER giving him the upper hand. We are a unique gift in a very evil, sadistic world. If we are able to allow our perfume to spread throughout the land there is no stopping what we can do for the kingdom.

Perfumed Letters by Robin T. Smith is as unique as it is charismatic. It's a refreshing look at a Christian based 'self help' book that begs you to take a closer look at your life based on our personal "fragrance." By that, I do not mean that we smell - good and/or bad! We each have a perfumed stamp on life, an anointed oil if you will, that becomes part of who we are. The scent or trail of a person can be defined in ways such as our actions, our thoughts, our behaviors. From anger to bitterness and resentment to elated and euphoric - it's all covered in this creatively written book!
I love that the author opens the book with the positive note that we are put on this earth to bless someone else. This book is about finding our purpose, our way, our spiritual anointing. It's full of scriptural references so it helps to have a bible nearby for easy passage searching (unless you know them all by heart!) My favorite part was by far the glossary of exclusive fragrance reviews! She breaks down the women of the bible into 'fragrance' categories - need to know where Herodias stands? What scent was Rahab? What about the Woman at the Well as mentioned in the book of John?
While this book didn't seem to have an overall flow through-out, it was certainly expressive and creative. The author speaks from the heart and writes in a way that makes me sense she would be wonderful to hear speak in person. I am sure there would be plenty of thought provoking statements, laughter and a message we would all enjoy.

Perfumed Letters starts off with a quote from the bible, Proverbs 27:9
Perfume delights the heart…
Despite being a self-help book, Perfumed Letters also explains how perfume was used during the olden days. Here’s a fast fact for you readers: perfumery started in ancient Egypt to please not women, but pagan gods.
As I was reading the first few pages, I thought this was an odd combition. I never thought the connection between perfumes and God. The author wrote with such eloquence that it all feels like an easy feat. Perfumed Letters is a highly original book. It mentions our sense of smell and how it determines emotional response and behavior.
The author further shares her personal account, like the day she encountered Jesus.
Some of Perfumed Letters memorable quotes
BYOB, Bring your own bible
When was the last time you allowed God to get into the shower with you?
Okay, you dirty geezers. I assure you there’s nothing erotic about this particular last sentence. You have to read it to find out.
I do feel that Perfumed Letters might be mind-consuming for non-christians. As mentioned before, the book has plenty of the author’s personal life. Friendship, love, family, there are parts where readers can relate. The book is written with compassion.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange of my honest review.
Hmm, I must say up front that even though I'm not a 'believer', I like to keep an open mind and be objective about these kinds of books - those that are single-minded in their faith.
Despite not agreeing with certain sentiments or the core of belief, I will say that this book is:
* well written * enthusiastic * is authentic in the author's beliefs * is beautiful in its suppositions
I think the world is an amazing and mysterious place, and can only respect those that believe those things come from a higher authority.
For those who believe in these ideas, this book will delight and strengthen resolve of women in fighting for the right to be who they want to be.

How scent affects others and its dynamic purpose in your life. This is an orginal book the author shares her personal account like the day she met Jesus. The book has plenty of the authors personal life from friendship, family and love. It also mentions how our sense of smell determines our behavior and emotional responses.
Perfumed Letters, written by Robin T. smith, was an absolute joy. Filled with wry humor and straight forward commentary, it will lift the spirit with its uniqueness; I will be honest and say that yes, in the process of reading this book, it lifted mine. The way Ms Smith used the uthenism and history of perfume and its uses to strenghtening your faith, was ingenous. A great book for those who are new to the teachings of faith and a refresher course for those like me, who find themselves some days, in need of a re-charge. Writen in such a way, that all will hopefully find some measure of peace at its conclusion.
