Review originally published on my blog, Dragon Bite Books .

This story focuses on Danny, a wild dolphin who gets separated from his pod and stranded alone as the waters turn colder and the fish migrate away. He is rescued by humans and brought to the science center to recover, where he is greeted by another dolphin, Daisy. Daisy, her gender indicated by blushing pink cheeks and long lashes, is barely in the story. The story promises that Danny and Daisy will be released to the ocean when they are well. The language is fairly simple. Facts about dolphins are slid seamlessly into the narrative so that they do not feel dry. Several words—“helpful,” “humans,” “divers,” and “net”—are capitalized as they are repeatedly used throughout the text. This seems to be more to draw attention to these words as vocabulary words than to have a narrative effect. The lessons are more factual than moral here. There is a lesson to be extracted about how humans can help shepherd wild marine mammals, but the emphasis seems to be on the how more than on the moral imperative.

The scientific information in this has aged well.

A good educational book about how Danny was picked up in the Ocean after losing his pod and taken into captivity. Probably best for a kid who is REALLY into animals.

Interesting science story about a dolphin rescue. Very strange that HELPFUL HUMANS and DIVERS were always capitalized, putting the humans in the spotlight.

Part of Suzanne Tate's nature series (there are many more featuring diverse sets of animals). The author introduces many dolphin facts (biological and behavioral) when introducing Danny - a wild dolphin. She goes on to explain the process of how helpful humans rescue Danny when he becomes sick and take him to a science center to get better. Here he meets and befriends Daisy another rescued dolphin, and they recuperate together and eventually will be released into the wild. Written in the style of a story but full of interesting dolphin and animal rescue facts.

Could be used from K-3 for the story and beyond to find dolphin facts.

This book was about two dolphins called Danny and Daisy. This story was good it was about Danny in big bay going to science center and meeting Daisy and at the end they said what a daring duo.
