About the author

Anita Bunkley is an NAACP Image Award nominee and a member of the Texas Institute of Letters. She was voted one of the fifty favorite African American authors of the twentieth century by the online African American Literature Book Club. Her novels and anthologies have appeared in numerous book clubs and bestseller lists in both hardcover and paperback. Writing about and for women of color is her passion.

A full-time writer, she is a former teacher of English, French and Spanish. Anita lives in Houston, Texas with her husband, Crawford. She is represented by Denise Marcil Literary Agency, Inc. New York, NY.

This was a nice, easy read. A little bit of suspense, some romance and finally triumph and redemption. I liked the unexpected twists and the character development. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story about second chances and perseverance.

A story about a young woman who re invents her life after getting out of prison, and what happens when her past comes back. It had a lot of surprises later on in the book

Sara Jane Talbot lost her mother at a young age and she did not have a good relationship with her father. She found a friend in Joyce Ann Keller, or so she thought. It turned out this girl was the wrong person to be around. Choosing Joyce to associate with landed Sara Jane in jail. Once she was released she took the opportunity to begin again – new name, new city, new life.
For anyone who’s really interested in the business of hair care and cosmetics and the life of a celebrity in the music industry this would probably be an enjoyable read, but for me it was just okay. The reason I read to the end was to find out what was going to happen between Sara Jane and Joyce Ann.
I really enjoyed Bunkley’s Balancing Act, though, and I do plan to read more of this author’s books.

Can't get enough of this book, I've had it for years and every time I read it I find something new.this is an inspiring read about being desperate for love and being in the wrong place at the wrong time, then changing ones life and perspective... It's about overcoming fear and embarrassment of ones past as it starts to resurface and finding the courage to fight against the destruction these revelations can cause so the main character can find love and learn to trust. AWESOME!! read.
