This book is another great one to have in the classroom for amazing real life pictures. It is not good for a read aloud or an independent read, but it contains a lot of activities and amazing information about animals. It is definitely a book to have in the classroom for reference.

I think the best age group to read this would be maybe 4th grade and up but it is still a great tool to have in any classroom.
Excellent guide on keeping your own bug zoo/classroom pets

This is a great comprehensive planner for exploring "yard bugs." It is sometimes hard for kids to get past an innate fear of bugs. But books like this make it just a little bit easier.

This is a great platform for a school year classroom project, while still remaining totally accessible to the individual, backyard explorer.

The illustrations are well rounded and balanced. The format of the book makes it approachable in a way that many non-fiction books are not. The format also lends it self to the child revisiting the same pages over and over as they look at specific items within a page set.

I'm not so crazy about the idea of owning a bug zoo, but if I was, this is the perfect book to use as a resource. It shows you everything you need to know about owning a critter zoo, from feeding to up-keep. I may not want a bug zoo, but I love the idea of the book. This would be great for school age children doing Science projects. So if this sounds like you, or your child, get a copy!

Many a future scientist discovered their interest by collecting, bugs, leaves, rocks, etc. Despite the progress made in science instruction in school, there are still a great many students who are intimidated by the subject. This book, written by a naturalist, is a great way to encourage curious youngsters in the sciences.

IF you are thinking about owning a bug zoo, this book has some great information. However, with a big dog, three cats, three fish, and a hamster, I do NOT need another zoo.
