Vaempires: A white Christmas

Rate this book
It's almost Christmas. With the global holiday days away, the people of the world should be turning their attention toward celebrating peace and goodwill, but tension between humans, vampires, and væmpires is at an all-time high. Desperate for solutions, King Brant schedules a secret summit deep in North America's Northern Forest. Along with Queen Anne, Princess Cassandra, Daniel's family, and the human President and First Lady, the vampire leader seeks to reaffirm the ties between humans and vampires, while brainstorming ways to respond to the growing hostility among væmpires.

Meanwhile, Daniel and Cassie's relationship is at an all-time low. The princess is still reeling from her breakup with Vielyn, and Daniel doesn't know what he should or shouldn't do to help. Little does he know that the summit will be flooded with surprises--guests, allegations, accusations, proposals, and even Christmas Eve revelations--but not all of the surprises will be pleasant.

MY REVIEW
To give the book its full title it is, Vaempires Christmas: White Christmas A Prelude To The Evolutionary War by Thomas Winship.
This book is a prelude to the larger, main book called Vaempires Revolution by Thomas Winship. I enjoyed this book, it allows you to get to know the characters that are also in the book Vaempires Revolution.I think you would say it sets the scene for what is about to happen. It gives you an idea of the possibilities of what may come.It is well written, in that once you begin to read this book you don't want to put it down until the end of it! I actual sat and read it in bed one evening, so its not a long initial introduction to the series. You learn the likes, loves and character traits, of Cassie and Daniel.
I really loved the cover too, being a white version as it is set at Christmas time. The world represented as a globe/bauble with blood dripping from it. The world is a different place as Vampires and Humans have finally learnt to co-exist in relative peace. The certain Vampires begin to mutate into a different species which is known as Vaempires. Vampires are strong, and have adapted well to the synthetic blood that the scientists have manufactured. Vaempires are even stronger and faster than Vampires, yet are ugly mutations they have extra claw/thumbs and they crave the blood of Vampires! The scientists are trying their best to adapt the synthetic blood so that Vaempires can drink and live on that however they are not being successful. Hence the secret meeting the Royal family and a head Dr/scientist are having....... things don't go as initially planned, can a peaceful resolution be accomplished? You will have to read the books to find out!
So did I enjoy this book? Yes, a great short prelude book. Did it make be want to read Vaempires Revolution? Yes I put the prelude book Vaempires Christmas down and immediately picked up Vaempires Revolution to read....and am I enjoying that? You'll find out in my review!
Would I recommend it? Yes even to those who are a little fed up of the Vampire genre should find this an interesting take on humans, Vampires and Vaempires!

3.5 awesome stars!

Vaempires: A white Christmas is a prequel to the first book, Vaempires: Revolution. The story basically tells the reader what happen before the great war between the Vampires and the væmpires began. It goes into some much needed details to help explain to the reader about how and why Vampires turned to væmpires and what is being done to try to stop the mutation. As the book begins Daniel is wishing for a White Christmas as this is something that rarely happens. Yes, there is plenty of snow just not when he wants it. He is making his way home to meet his family and Cassie. Things are fairly different for Daniel in the book. One Cassie is only a friend, and Daniel is really crushing on her throughout the whole book. No real love has bloomed just yet. Also Cassie has just broken up with her ex-boyfriend and Daniel is worried about expressing his fondness to soon after.

King Brant leader of the Vampires schedules a secret meeting at his home to discuss a solution to the pending war between the Vampires, humans and the væmpires. The King, his wife Queen Anne and daughter Cassie invite the human president, and the first lady as well as Daniels family to discuss what can be done. Although soon their "party" is crashed by the leader of the væmpires who wants to know why he was not invited.

Doesn't sound too good? Right?

Will the Vampires, humans, and The væmpires be able to work out there differences?
Or will a white Christmas be the least of their worries?

I really enjoyed this book and although short it helped me to understand more about the story and how Cassie and Daniel came together. I did only give this one a 3.5 cupcakes because I felt it lacked the intensity I felt with the first one. Also I would have liked for the author to explain more in detail about Cassie and Vielyn as a couple and what lead her to break up with him.

The ending was the best part, not because it ended but "how" it ended. ;)

I was beyond lucky to have been given both Vaempires Revolution, and Vaempires: A White Christmas, to read by the author. This prequel was awesome!!! It allowed me to get to know, and feel the emotions of the main characters - Daniel and Cassie, and jump into their heads a bit. This prequel made me love their characters even more. It was wonderful to see exactly what happened prior to the Revolution, and watch how the love between Daniel and Cassie blossomed, and still...it left me wanting more! I have a feeling that this series is going to hit it big. I can definitely see Vaempires on the "big screen". Author, Thomas Winship is a master at painting a dark, intense world, where humans, vampires and vaempires (2 different species) co-exist together...or do they??? That, my friends, you will have to find out for yourself...and you won't be disappointed!!! In the meantime, I will have to keep busy, so I won't hound the author for the next one!!! :)

"Cassie squeezed his hand, keeping her head on his shoulder and forcing him to loosen up and continue dancing. The song played on. They danced like they were the only two people in the world. Daniel entertained thoughts of spiriting her off the dance floor and sneaking off to a seculuded location.

He jumped, startling Cassie, when a warm hand fell on his shoulder. The heat was unmistakable; the second thumb was unnerving.

He turned, coming face-to-face with the red-haired vaempire. "Are you trying to keep the princess all for yourself?" the man asked. He smiled, but it failed to reach his green eyes. Instead, they held an accusation and a hint of something else - a threat, perhaps - that Daniel couldn't identify.

It triggered primal instincts. Daniel's gums throbbed and fingertips pulsed as fangs and claws prepared to come online. It shocked him, but he held them at bay with an effort, reminding himself that losing his temper could have implications far beyond the embarrassment it would cause everyone in the room. Hell, wars had been started over less."

The first book in this series really pulled me in from the beginning, and I couldn't wait to dive into the prequel. Don't read them out of order, though. The author made sure to let me know that A White Christmas is meant to be reader after Vaempires: Revolution. After reading it, it's perfectly clear why you have to read them in that order to appreciate the story. The book begins with a great action scene, which I've come to expect from Mr. Winship, and he doesn't disappoint. Vaempires: A White Christmas does more than set the stage for the coming devastation in the rest of the series. Winship does an amazing job of setting up the love story between Princess Cassandra and Daniel, the son of the head of the royal guard. The bond between the two vampires is explored, giving the needed strength to their tireless resolve in Vaempires: Revolution.

Winship effortlessly weaves in the backstory the reader needs without slowing down the plot. Not only is the relationship between Daniel and Cassie grown in this installment, but the reader learns just how close they are to their families, making the losses they suffer later all the more heart-wrenching.

Despite all the knowledge the reader brings to the table after having read Vaempires: Revolution, there's no lack of new information and intrigue in this installment of the series. I feel even closer to Daniel and Cassie and their cause now that I understand more about their beginnings. The author even provides a better glimpse into the way vampires view humans while showcasing his ability to weave humor into serious situations.

I especially appreciated the season of the book, having read it during the Christmas break, but I assure you that it will be enjoyed year-round.

I highly recommend that fans of Vaempires: Revolution read A White Christmas directly following it. The relationships are beautifully fleshed out, and the up-and-coming revolution is more understandable after having read this book.

While most Christmas stories warm us with goodwill and peace, Væmpires: White Christmas highlights the turmoil between the races of humans, vampires and the ever defiant væmpires. The second book in the Væmpire series is the prelude to the hostile takeover of the world by the væmpire race.

Christmas is near and all of the race’s hierarchies are vacationing together in the Northern Forest for a secret meeting. While the væmpire race does not have a leader – as they are still considered vampires – a councilman, Donrel, which has evolved into a væmpire, has taken it upon himself to crash the holiday.

Donrel appears at the summit with a request to represent the væmpires with accusations that they are being purposely ostracized. There have been rumors that a scientist, which has been working on a form of synthetic vampire blood for the væmpires to consume, is going to make an appearance. Donrel is admitted into the proceedings and the party with the intentions of keeping the peace that seems to be falling apart rapidly.

Cassie is still confused over her breakup with Vielyn after he mutated into a væmpire, although she never had a deep affection for him. Donrel claims that she only broke off her relationship with Vielyn because of his affliction, and the tension tightens.

The book is a great addition to this series and it shows us the growing threat that led to the war in Revolution. It gives us in depths look at the political power struggle leading up to the fallout that we witness in the first book.

But it gives us more than that – Daniel and Cassie. Amongst the bickering of the political forces, we are given Daniel’s ever growing affection for Cassie. White Christmas takes us back the first threads of Daniel’s love for Cassie as he struggles with how, and whether, to tell her how he feels.

Thomas Winship has me hooked. With every new invention of the vampire there is a great book behind it, and I’m looking to see what the Væmpire series has to bring.

This is a prelude for Vaempires: Revolution, but it’s supposed to be read after the first book. At first, I found that a little bit strange, but after doing as the author suggested, I totally saw the point of it. Who would watch Star Wars Episode I, II and III before having seen Episode IV, V and VI? I know the story would make perfectly sense if you’d watch it in that order, still. Let’s face it, the greatest beauty of Star Wars is cheering Darth Vader—pfft, tell someone else you didn’t do that, too—and then find out everything about his background and his forbidden love. That’s how it works, first you grow fond of a character and then you want to know every secret. That’s exactly what happens in Vaempires, The Evolutionary War series. You read Vaempires: Revolution, you’re amazed by the action in it and totally captivated by story and characters, then it comes Vaempires: White Christmas, you find out how all the fuss started and you love it, because at this point you’re able to see everything with the eyes of a character you previously learned to love and admire. The bound is already there, Daniel’s concerns are yours, and you feel his struggling for Cassandra and love the way it all comes to life.

Vaempires: White Christmas is a really beautiful prelude and, with his very strong writing skills, Thomas Winship managed to make me love his story with such an amazing intensity that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book to everyone.

I received a free copy of this book from the Author for an honest review. This does not affect in any way my opinion of the book nor the content of my revieworiginally posted on Darkest Sins.

Chapter 1 right out of the door starts with Winship’s noteworthy hack and slash writing. ‘Daniel ducked, a breeze ruffling his brown hair as massive claws slashed overhead to decapitate the unfortunate sapling beside him.” Okay, so Daniel is actually felling a tree, but within moments he is towered over by a beast and fighting ensues.

This book is actually a prelude to the first two books and gives you more details that were lacking in the story line and you learn more about the characters and how society, including humans, Vampires, and Vaempires all come together and put differences aside for the Christmas holiday. Delving deeper into the teen’s personal lives and pasts, it was refreshing to learn more about the relationship between Cassandra and Vielyn, and how Daniel admittedly was smitten with her. This book delves into the scientific area of finding a suitable blood alternative for the Vaempires that will sustain them, but nothing seems to be working and time is obviously running out as the Vaempires grow impatient. While I’d like to end with something catchy, if you have read the first two books, you already know where this story goes. If you haven’t read the first two books, I don’t suggest reading this book until you have as it would dissolve a certain amount of suspense strategically placed into the books.

This was a great Prequel to start the series.

We learn about the three races that will be in the story- Humans, Vampires and Vaempires. There is a King and Queen that rules over both Vampire and Vaempire races. Whilst there is a President for the Human race. However, there appears to be a conflict between two groups, the Human/Vampires and the Vaempires. The Humans and Vampires have set up a meeting and the Vaempires crash it, as they believe they have been left out on purpose.

The story is being told from Daniels POV, so he mostly observes what happens on the trip. He is second in charge to his father who controls security for the King and Queen. Daniel also has a secret crush on the Princess Cassie, who has been his best friend since childhood. We meet a lot of characters in this short story who I assume pop up again into the series. And it all takes place in a couple of days prior to Christmas.

Although there wasn't a lot of action in this story, the writer is quite detailed about the surroundings, describing things from the forest outside to rooms in the compound. I thought it was a little over the top because I don't think boys take in all those kinds of details, especially a 15 year old. However, I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, hopefully there's plenty of action!

A prelude to Vaempires: Revolution (The Evolutionary Wars #1), Vaempires: A White Christmas tells the back-story of Daniel and Cassandra, and delves more deeply into the politics of the human/vampire/vaempire world, and the scientific community’s attempt to help the vaempires adapt to the human and vampire way of life.

As a prelude whilst I don’t recommend reading Vaempires: A White Christmas before Vaempires: Revolution, I do recommend reading it pretty soon after you finish Revolution. Reading in this order helps to answer some questions from Revolution, without giving away key parts of the plot.

Personally, I also found White Christmas a great way to get to know Daniel a little better – his insecurities and his long history with Cassandra, as well as his jealousy over her relationship with Vielyn, and by the end I liked him much more as a character. I also enjoyed learning more about the politics and science behind the conceived segregation of the vaempires from vampires and humans. This book made me even more curious about the next book in the series.

And once again Mr. Winship had me totally enthralled in the story and the world of Vaempires!

Thank you Mr. Winship for giving me a copy to read :) This book is a prequel to Vaempires:Revolution. You get to meet Daniel, his family, Cassie, and her family, as they go one a Christmas vacation. It also introduces us to how the world is now working as this is literally a post apocalyptic world. This have happened, vampires live with humans, and are now mutating into Vaempires. You see the political side of things, but to me, this is mainly a sweet story to tell you how Daniel and Cassie feel about each other and a little of their back story. You also get a glimpse of Daniel's best friends, and fellow guards, Ray and Linq-I LOVE THEM!! I don't want to say too much as it is a short story meant to give you just a small peak of what's to come. If I tell you too much, then I'll spoil it for you :) I read the main story first, but if you want to pick this one up first you will have no troubles. You get to meet some of the people who are going to cause Vaemipres: Revolution to come into play. Well done :) 4.5 PAWS from me, and only because Ray and Linq don't get full time in here LOL :)

I loved the story itself although I am not a big fan of the pre-thing being done after the first book. I love our two main characters and look forward to reading the third in the series. I must know what happens to them! I would suggest still for anyone who loves vampire stuff and I almost wonder if I could have read this one first! Our author has given us a great little read and again left us with an ending that just stops right in the middle of the action and begs to be continued.
MY PEEVES:
I have yet to figure out why anyone wastes our time ruining the story by reviewing a book and practically telling the rest of us basically everything in the book. Please rate the book and talk about it if you must but copying an author's words into an extremely long review is a little rude for both the author and the rest of the fans. I am so glad I actually read the story before checking the reviews because I probably wouldn't have even needed to read the actual story.

This prequel to Revolution sets up a lot of great character development, and also explains some of the tension in Revolution.

It's Christmas, and Daniel has accompanied his family and the Vampire royalty to a secluded location for a secret summit. But Daniel isn't thinking about politics: his mind is on the princess. Cassie has always been his best friend, but lately, Daniel has been wondering if they could ever be more. The political tension takes a backseat to hormones, but this book is still fraught with many levels of "what ifs". Less action/killing than Revolution, and more focused on the characters: I'd read this before reading the rest of the series. All in all, I loved the chance to understand the world better, and to see where Daniel and Cassie crossed the line from friends to soul mates.

Vaempires: White Christmas jumps straight into the action as Daniel is doing his best to fend off a dangerous and life threatening attack, and a few pages further we discover who is attacking Daniel and it wasn't what I expected but I loved how the suspense was built up with no hint at what it was.  After the attack Daniel makes his way home day dreaming about Christmas and one thing I truly love...snow....and more importantly, a white Christmas. Vaempires: White Christmas takes place before Vaempires: Revolution but is meant to be read afterwards. It is a brief read (77) pages on my eReader  but is a perfect filler between books.  I enjoyed getting a glimpse into the previous events before Vaempires: Revolution and most importantly seeing the start of the relationship between Daniel and Cassandra.

Vaempires White Christmas is a prelude to the book previously reviewed. It offfers an intimate peak into the more personal relationships of the characters that are about to be thrust into a battle for survival. We get to see love - of parents for children, young lovers, friends for friends, and creatures for survival. We see it played out in dramatic detail, yet are not overwhelmed by the complexity of it. Admit it, love is a complex thing and far too often it is over analyzed in a book. Not here though, it plays beautifully into a story that introduces you to a cast of characters, a new world, and new dynamic of life. If this was all you got to read of this series, I do not doubt that you would be begging for more. This is the perfect teaser, for what promises to be a spectacular series.

As always, Thomas Winship is an awesome writer. He managed to make me feel emotions I'd normally feel with a full-length novel, with barely a hundred pages.
Christmas is my favourite holiday, so I enjoyed this story even more. As you may know, this is the prequel to Vaempires Revolution, so I was able to understand certain events that happen in VR. I loved how he managed to combine the magic of Christmas with the serious politic situations that need to be issued.
Even though the theme is very strong, he found a way to create a romantic side out of all.
Outstanding job, Mr Winship, I look forward to what's coming next.

This was a great backstory to Vaempires: Revolution. The love story captures you and doesn't let go til the very end.

Daniel and Cassie are young and trying to find their way in the world Winship has created. They are both expected to be very powerful when they mature, yet it seems their worlds are so far apart at the beginning of White Christmas.

The political backdrop adds to the tension between them. It seems the universe keeps causing problems for these two young vampires, but they fight through it with the help of their parents.

Yet another great story from Thomas Winship.

How many stories begin with a decapitation within the first sentence?

Okay, maybe not the kind you’re thinking, but no one knows how to kick things off like Thomas Winship.

I’ve mentioned before that Winship’s writing is remarkably cinematic. Sounds, smells, and action all come together in climatic scenes that propel the story forward and keep the reader on the edge of her seat from beginning to end.

Since this is a prequel to Vaempires: Revolution, there were some bittersweet moments for me knowing what comes next, especially with the vidscreen calls to Daniel’s friends with their families in the background.

My absolute favorite scene was between Daniel and Cassie in the forest. It was sweet, romantic, and pure magic. Daniel describes the scenery and sensations so vividly I felt like I was right there with the two young lovers. And I loved how it ended.

The holiday humor was fantastic.

I actually bought this installment of The Evolutionary War earlier in the year and was waiting until closer to Christmas to read it. Still intense and riff with danger, but also magical, it made for a fun holiday read.

Winship has a talent for adorable or lighthearted scenes that made me chuckle. I was often laughing to myself or grinning while I read, just because it was cute or I could relate to Daniel's character.
