This book is a work of scholarship on The Great Gatsby. I loved this analysis. Long does a great job of giving background information on the development of The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald's influences, and the art of the novel. Long goes in depth on analyzing how similar his previous books are to The Great Gatsby, especially the short story "Winter Dreams." Additionally, Long looks at all of the imagery (specifically the color imagery), the symbols, theme, motif, the meaning behind the time, and the actual structure of the novel.
Very well-written and great analysis!
