"Grounds for Pleasure" brings together places that have been made expressly to give pleasure to all who use themÑgardens were an obvious first choiceÑor places that, though giving pleasure, demand we have a 'commercially viable' good timeÑfairgrounds and seaside piers were obvious candidates. They, like many other constructionsÑships and Atlantic liners, in particularÑhave given me pleasure seeing and photographing them. They stand for 'good design' and suggest how the world might look if we were more careful about the things we put upon it.
