This is a good picture book that shows the stages of egg hatching for robins. It’s easy text is perfect for young readers and for helping readers learn how to read. The photographs are cool and helpful, but it did confuse me that it was showing a series of robin families and not the same one (I all of a sudden realized that the nest locations were different and there were different numbers of baby birds in each nest). I get that it may be important to show variety, and they were probably trying to gather together photos from different stages somewhat quickly, but I feel like it would’ve been nice to see the same robin family go through the stages.
Young children need simple non-fiction books to give them facts about the world they live in to re-enforce the knowledge they have acquired and expand it for them. From Egg to Robin/Del huevo al petirrojo is a simple science book to tell about how robins build a nest, lay eggs and hatch babies that grow into adult robins. It is a good book for our preschool science center, especially in the spring when we see so many robins in our area.
This book can be used with early beginning to read students. There are lots of questions that you can ask them to check for comprehension. The photographs are very clear. The students will enjoy seeing how the baby robins develop. Use this book in the classroom with the lowest level readers when you were doing habitat or animal papers.
My little sister asked me to read this and I was like sure. I wasn't all the way done and she walked away and i'm like Bri! i'm almost done. So, she came back and I finished. she's such a goon.
