Untouched

Rate this book
Until he met Dez, Kale’s days were filled with violence and death. He was used as a weapon of destruction by the power hungry men of Denazen. He’s a Six. A person with an abnormal ability. Some people call them gifts, but not Kale. Kale’s touch means instant death.

But now there’s Dez, the girl he can touch, and they’re hunting down Sixes and warning them about Denazen. Kale is learning about the world outside captivity and trying to put his dark past behind him. But they underestimated how badly Denazen wanted him back.

When Dez sacrifices herself to save the new Six they’d rescued from falling into the corp’s hands, Kale is lost. Denazen has brought out its best to get the job done. Samsen, a nightmare from Kale’s past—the only person he’s ever truly feared—has come for them, and it soon becomes obvious he has his own twisted agenda.

Being in Kale's head was more entertaining than I initially thought it was going to be! He's such a sweet and innocent guy to most of the world who can turn into a killer in 0.5 seconds. If that isn't romantic I don't know what is!

On a more serious note, this novella gives more insight into how Kale works and views the world. He still had a difficult time deciphering what slang is and coming from someone who is fluent in two languages it hits home. I still mix up basic phrases and slang into one another thinking they're correct. The people around me find it funny, I find it frustrating. I can totally see where he's coming from. Dez was also great in this novel. She's just what Kale needs: understanding and patience to learn to live on the outside. I'm both excited about and dreading their next adventure!

Kale is a character like no other. Being imprisoned by Denazen his whole life, he never got to learn social behavior. Social skills and etiquette are completely lost on him. He doesn't understand slang or why people lie. He gets bewildered by elementary things. It's sad in a way because of what he went through, but it's strangely fascinating to see how human behavior is perceived to such alien eyes - and not to mention terribly amusing. You gotta admit, a lot of the things we say and do ARE bizarre when you sit down and think about it.

"She was excited. To be rolling around in colorful balls." -Quote from Kale while in a ball pit with Dez.

In this novella, we get a delightful look inside this unfledged mind. However, it's not an unperturbed one. Kale went through a lot of mental abuse. Being used as a prosecutor and torturer, imprisoned and isolated; he's not completely stable. We get a glimpse of the darkness inside of him. I truly enjoyed getting to know him better. I feel I understand his way of thinking, as well as what he went through. What he's still going through. And of course, we also see how madly in love he is with Dez, which is absolutely adorable. The romance in Touch is one I highly enjoyed that has passion and substance. Untouched simply ascertains this by showing us Kale's candid feelings for her.

Novellas are always fun to bridge the gap while waiting for the next installment but aren't always important. Untouched has us delving into Kale's mind where we get to understand HIS world, thus it does have considerable character development that makes it a highly recommended read for fans of the series. Even if you don't usually read novellas, if you want to have a bigger grip on this complex character, don't skip on this one!

Untouched (Denazen # 1.5) by Jus Accardo

Untouched is a short novella, all told from Kale’s point of view, the interesting thing about the story being told by Kale is that he sees things very different from everyone else due to he was locked up and isolated for a very long time. Since he has never experiences everyday things we get to see firsthand his confusion and lack of humor. I have to say it was great reading this story from Kale’s point of view.

Kale and Dez have set out to track down other Sixes, warning them of the Denazen Corp and offering them a safe place to go. Of course people from the Denazen Corp are right behind them trying to capture Kale once again. Kale and Dez will have to fight for their lives and Kale knows that no matter what he has to keep Dez safe. Dez is the only person he can touch without killing them and Kale would do anything to protect her.

Jus Accardo has done an excellent job writing this short novella, the story is written extremely well and of course you never set it down till you reach the end. I cannot wait to read book 2 in this series….....Toxic is to be released in September 2012.

Oh yes and the cover is fantastic.

40-ish page short which takes place in between books 1 and 2. This chapter is in Kale's PoV. Normally, I like when we get to see a glimpse of the male PoV, but being inside of Kale's head doesn't do it for me. However, I am glad that I opted to read this story because it introduces a new character and places our sixes in a tricky situation by the end, which is where I'm assuming book 2 will pick up at.

Could you skip this one? I'm guessing you could, since most side stories are usually bonus PoV's or extra tidbits for the fans. I'm almost positive that book 2 will catch you up to speed without problem if you missed the boat on reading Untouched.

Overall, it was a fast, okay read. My issues with Kale and his PoV are my own stumbling block (as mentioned in my review for book 1...his lack of knowledge isn't his fault, but I have a hard time warming up to him because of it).

I'd recommend this for the fans who can't get enough and don't want to skip any detail. Otherwise, meh...

Random question/thought of the day : Did it explain when the sixes grow into their powers? Because I was wondering how anyone was able to change Kale's diaper with the whole deadly skin issue? Book 1 made it sound like he'd never been able to touch anyone.

Untouched Review on K-Books

Wow, what a novella. I was completely and utterly sucked back into this incredible world that Jus Accardo has built. Usually novellas are not my favourite books and most don't get over a 3 star rating. I just usually feel like it's so short you can't really enjoy it as much as by the time you get into the book it's over. This is one of the exceptions. I absolutely loved Untouched and it has made me very excited for the upcoming second Denazen novel.

Dez and Kale are on the move looking for other Sixes to warn and protect them from the evil Denazen cooperation who will do anything to get the Sixes working for them. But while Dez and Kale are on the move looking for the Sixes danger from Denazen is not far behind. When they catch up with a Six they find themselves in a battle. Can Kale overcome his past and save the new Six and Dez when no matter what the Denazen cooperation will always hold something against him?

This is an incredible fast paced novella set between Touch and the upcoming Toxic. It is a fast-paced novella that is difficult to put down and I loved every moment of it. It picks up where Touch left off with Dez and Kale on the lookout for the other Sixes. Even though I read Touch a while ago when it was just released I didn't have trouble catching up on the book at all. Once you start reading all of what happened in book 1 easily comes back to you without Jus having to repeat it and sound repetitive.

I loved Kale so much in book 1 and I couldn't wait to read more about him and Dez so to find that this novella was told from Kale's point of view made me even more excited to read it. I loved reading this from Kale's point of view and it really gives you a new perspective of him. I always loved him but I just love him even more after reading this novella. I really felt for him and you really get a look at the effects that Denazen really had on him and how it impacts everything that he does.

I thought this novella was really good, one of the best novella's I have read. It's action-packed and fast-paced and I found it very unputdownable and I loved every moment. This is just an incredible series and I am so excited for Toxic to find out what happens.
This novella is definitely a must-read for fans of Touch.

Ana & Celeste reviewed these books together.

♥ Initial thought after finishing:
Ana: Really enjoying this series! So many twists and turns…such evil bad people…and a great romance!

Celeste: Loved! Holy double crossing!! Fast paced with a great romance full of sparks (lol).

♥ The story:
Ana: I liked the adventure of these stories. There was lots of action and unexpected twists that kept the stories moving along quickly. The premise of the books, one where there’s an evil organization using people with special powers, may not be new but the level of evil the Denazen corporation is capable of is quite different. The appearance of Kale at the very beginning of Touch meant that the mystery started immediately, it was a book that captured me right from the start. In Untouched, the adventure continues as the characters continue to try to escape the corporation’s evil and save other “Sixes” – people with special powers. Touch captured me right from the very beginning and ensured that I fell in love with these characters!

Celeste: Touched: I really, really really enjoyed it. I devoured the book-read in one day. Deznee, or Dez as she prefers, lives with her cold, unemotional father. She’ll do anything to get a rise out of him. One day she runs across Kale who is fleeing for his life. She doesn’t know what to make of him, but soon starts to learn her life with her “lawyer” father isn’t what it seemed. There’s evil to fight and people to save!
Untouched: This was from Kale’s point of view and while I loved the first book, this was more like a filler scene, and written from Kale’s perspective this time. It was also set at an amusement park which just seemed a little too predictable.

♥ The Characters:
Ana: Dez was such a spunky, smart character. Her ability to figure out situations and face danger head on was great. She had a sarcastic inner voice that had me laughing at times. Although I couldn’t relate to her dislike of her father, I was still on her side and admired her sass. She was strong and good with “weird” which worked for her because her life is full of weird! Kale is a great mystery at the beginning of this story and goes through lots of growth as the book progresses. His curiosity had me smiling and his straightforwardness was refreshing. He was simultaneously innocent and fierce. Of course, it didn’t hurt that he was also sweet and dreamy but didn’t seem to know it! The villains in this book were indeed evil and I didn’t have any trouble disliking them.

Celeste: I flip flopped a lot with many of the secondary characters because their loyalties were not clear. Personally, I loved the mystery of trying to decide which side of the fence so many were really on. However, there were solid main characters in this book that definitely had their side and were consistent the whole way through.

Dez = a great heroine. At first look she is a typical rebellious teen, just looking for attention and not afraid to get it. She will defy her father in any bold way – even I was impressed with the lengths she would go.
Marshall Cross (her father) = not at all what he seemed. The more I read the more absolutely evil he was. He doesn’t seem to have a single ounce of humanity in him, even for his daughter. He seems to use her as a pawn in his game as well. Truly awful.
Kale = I loved him! Yes, maybe a bit silly since he has been kept on the “inside”, but his personality was still kind. He spirit never got destroyed. Then let’s talk about his perfect physique and ice blue eyes and shaggy hair that could tuck behind both ears…..rawr!

♥ The Relationship:
Ana: As with many YA books, the relationship takes off pretty quickly. The difference here is that the character with the life experience is the girl, not the boy. The innocence that Kale brings into the relationship made it all that much sweeter. It was a slow smolder in many ways while still moving along quickly enough for the reader. I liked the way that Dez handled the relationship in almost a delicate way considering she was so worldly. Because of Kale’s special power, I was concerned that the relationship couldn’t be real (trust me, this will make sense once you read the book) but he was ultimately able to convince me of his feelings and I jumped on board of the Dez/Kale train.

Celeste: Yup, I’m on board this train! While Dez was no innocent teen, it was all for show. Her previous relationship with Alex had been (in my opinion) just something that made her feel loved since it seemed like she had no affection in her life. Almost as soon as she meets Kale there is a connection, and not just because he is gorgeous and she is resistant to his ability. It is sweet and sexy because Kale was just going on his feelings and pure physical reactions.

♥ Overall feelings:
Ana: I found Touch more enjoyable than Untouched because, in truth Touch is where the character building happened and where we had the opportunity to get immersed in the story. Untouched, being a novella, was just a short “episode”…almost too quick to fall into. I did enjoyed the fact that Untouched was actually written in Kale’s POV. It was good to see what his feelings were about this world and understand the range of emotions he felt both for his past as well as Dez. But, in reality, it was Touch that won me over. Overall, the books were well written and the stories moved along smoothly. I liked the characters and routed for them from the very beginning.

Celeste: Touch: I thoroughly enjoyed Touch. It jumped right into the story from the first chapter. Of course many secrets were uncovered and revealed as we went along. It was well written and I was sold. Honestly, my biggest complaint is that I hated the name Deznee “Dez”. I understood later kind of why she was given that name, but still. terrible choice. It could easily have been something else. However, it didn’t make me like her or the story any less.
Untouched: I was excited to start it and it was OK, but I’m glad it was short. I usually get excited over a switched POV, but this one was harder for me to get into.

I absolutely adored Jus Accardo’s debut novel Touch, so when I was offered the chance to review her new novella Untouched, of course I jumped at the chance and honestly – I’m so glad I did because it doesn’t disappoint!

Untouched is a short story told from Kale’s point of view. Yes, you heard that right! It’s all about Kale. Anyway, in Touch we saw Kale escaping Denazen, meeting Dez and teaming up with other Sixes to try and take down Denazen. Now in Untouched he and Dez are trying to recruit a new Six while trying to have a bit of fun at the same time. While Kale, Dez and the new Six head to a fun fair for the day, it is there they run into trouble….and it’s trouble with a capital T because Kale’s past comes back to haunt him and it’s someone he really fears. When Dez is captured, it’s Kale’s up to Kale to rescue her because he can’t lose her after just finding her, but can Kale save Dez from his past but most of all can he save her life?

It’s safe to say, I loved Kale before starting this book and if it’s possible, I love him even more now. I love how naïve he is, I love how sweet he is and of course, I love how protective he is over Dez. Getting inside Kale’s head was just PURE AMAZING! He’s so selfless and dedicated to stopping Denazen and from seeing things from his point of view, you can really see why he and Dez are such a good couple. They are both so similar but each of them has been sheltered and it has affected their lives but when there together, everything is forgotten. It’s just the two of them against the world and I love the relationship they have.

Even though this story is a short story, I still felt it was long enough to give us that Kale fix. If anything, it was longer than I expected but I’m not complaining because I loved it. Jus Accardo knows how to suck you into her captivating world from page one and it really shows her talent as an author to be able to create any product – whether that be a full book or a novella, and I seriously just want more.

Overall, Untouched is a must read for any fan of this series and I’d highly recommend it anyone who is looking for something a little different.

Kale. Kale. Kale. Omg how I love thee!!!! This was an amazing Novella told from our beloved Kale's POV!!! I truly saw him better in this and understood who he was. Ahh I love him so much. I love Dez too!! She is a kick ass heroine with a strong and noble persona!!! They are truly the perfect pair together!

We get to meet Kiernan, a Six who Dez and Kale meet to take her away from danger from the Denazen agents. At first I wasn't so sure about her. But quickly warmed up to her when she realized that trusting them would be her only chance at survival. But damn she is one badass Six!!! I hope we see more of her in Toxic.

This book was way too short! I didn't expect it to end so abruptly!! Now we have to wait for Toxic forever!!! Ahhh this was so good though. If you haven't read it yet but read Touch, you love Untouched!!! Ah Kale. Sigh.

Oooooh I love Kale!!

This little novella was so good and really gave you an insight into how Kale thinks. It gave us readers a chance to get to know him better and understand him aswell as to realise the full extent of how his past has affected him now.
His love and need for Dez is so goddamn cute! He relies on her for his restraint and his normalcy. Without her he thinks he is a monster *poor Kale*

I wasn't a good person. Today I'd proven that, if not to her then to myself. But arguing wouldn't do any good with Dez. The Kale she saw was pure and perfect, and I wanted it to stay that way. Needed it to stay that way."

I loved Kiernan! And hope she is a steady addition on denanzen 2!!
Even though this was only a short read it was 'short and sweet' and I loved it!

OMG, why havent I been able to find more romances like this? It has been a long time since I read a really great YA romance, and I didnt even realize it till I read this and remembered how much better Touch is compared to anything I have read in a long time. I cannot wait for Toxic!

The ending was really heartbreaking, how Kale feels really guilty about what he did and doesnt believe that he is a good person, even though Dez tells him she think he is, and that he shouldnt feel guilty. But he is glad that she thinks he is perfect, and he needs her love.

A novella from Kale's perspective. Kale and Dez track down a Six to invite her to join them and to warn her about the evil corporation - Denazen. Kale, Dez and the Six decide to go to the local theme park to get to know each other better but it's not long before the Denazen agents turn up to cause havoc and ruin Kale's fun.
I loved reading from Kale's perspective and getting a glimpse of him adjusting to his freedom, finding out what he feels for Dez and how he's trying to fit in with those around him. It was funny to read his reaction to certain things and how he took things so literally. We're also offered an insight into Kale's tragic past.
I'm looking forward to reading Toxic and finding out what trouble Dez and Kale get themselves into.

Loved it! It was really short and that makes me have a sad face! I love Kale to no end and reading from his POV was just as funny! He still takes everything literally which just makes everything ho-larious! I sort of missed Dez's mouth cuz she really didn't talk. The little novella takes place in one day and then bam it's over! This is why I have the sad face :( Can not wait for Toxic!

Hola booklovers!!

let's start by saying that I loved how the book was written from Kale's pov❤️❤️

he was so SOOO cute, as he gets confused by every new thing.
not to mention how he talks about Dez.
"I used to dream about what it would be like to touch someone - to feel someone else's skin with my fingers - but then I experienced it. I found Dez. It didn't bother me anymore that I couldn't touch anyone else. As long as she was with me, nothing else mattered .” (untouched page 20)
SUCH A SWEETHEART 😭😭😭

Why can't all boys be like that? Or at least like Alex🥺
" I love you Dez. I always have. I'm sorry for what I did, but I know I can fix it. together we will succeed. " (touch page 308)

- anddd don't get me wrong, i m on Team Kale ofc but I like Alex's character. it's a fact that he made bad decisions, but he did everything because of Dez, and I don't hate him because he loves Dez.

when Samsen came and ordered him to push Dez down ... I thought I would die there with Dez. but it didn't happen and i dont have a problem whit that . Not at all.

I think Samsen will come back in the next parts..... (I don't understand why he didn't touch him to make sure he dies), because no one dies permanently in this book series :))

P.s. i hope the BEST for Dez and Kale 🫡

[Spoiler free review]

Only Touch and Toxic came out in my country. So what was my surprise when I found out not only that there were other volumes but also a novella. I bought it this morning, finished it in the evening - total reading time about an hour. It was literally a quick read. Was it good though? Yes and no.

I would say, the thing I liked the most about this novella was Kale’s point of view. This is so innocent and pure and makes you question silly things. It was refreshing, and then when he kind of goes rogue, it gives a better insight at how he’s feeling and dealing with the trauma Denazen caused him. So it was nice.

The plot was enjoyable. It was action-packed, kind of thrilling at some point, we got to discover a new villain (which I would have kept for a full-volume so strong he is), a little bit of romance too… But I truly think this novella is unnecessary. As I said, I read Touch and then Toxic without ever knowing about this novella and I understood the plot of Toxic just fine. The action kind of drags for several mini-chapters and honestly this whole novella could have been summed up in half pages.

So yeah. It was nice, but it served no purpose at all.

I will rate it 3 stars because it was fun, but objectively it is worth 2 stars.

An untouched read!

He will need all his training to get her back and ensure they all make it out, free–and alive...
But will it be enough?

Ooh, this little novella was such a gem - a real treat! And honestly I just wanted more of this couple. If only this was a novel but I can't wait to read book two!

Full of powers, family, love, action, darkness, pain and romance.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romances.

I found the first book in the Denazen series, Touch, to be an okay book. My main concern with that book was that I had a hard time wrapping my head around Kale as a romantic lead for this story. He was a wonderful character with an interesting history, and I did want to explore more of the difficulties he faced as a result of being locked away in a Denazen facility for almost his entire life. He entered our society without any understanding of the subtleties of language or the conveniences of modern technology in everyday life or how to take time to enjoy life around him. Fascinating. However, I couldn't warm up to him as a romantic male lead because his character seemed too naive to me. Although I know that he is strong and older, for some reason as I read I kept picturing either a young boy or a Forrest Gump type character in my head. I couldn't shake that visualization, and for that reason the romance came across as a bit creepy to me. I know that was not the intention of the author at all, and that has more to do with my experience as a reader than the actual story, but it was what it was, and my enjoyment of the novel suffered for that reason.

Now in Untouched we are reintroduced to Kale and the love of his life, Dez, but whereas in Touch Dez was the first person narrator, Kale is the narrator in this one. Unfortunately that intensifies the problems of the first book for me. Now I was right inside Kale's head with a first person view of his naivety. He is so sweet and pure in so many ways, but he has suffered so much in his young life, so there is an element of danger inside him as well. Actually, I believe that this will be an excellent theme to pursue as the series moves forward. This struggle between the saint who Dez believes Kale to be and the monster that Kale thinks himself to be will be interesting to see as it plays out. I want more of that. In this short novella, however, I got very little insight into that character issue.

In this story Dez and Kale find another Six with an invisibility talent, and they encourage her to come with them to protect herself from the Denazen corp. That makes sense. What didn't make sense to me was why in the middle of this crazy flight away from this dangerous organization Dez decided that it would be a great idea to hang out at an amusement park for the day. I get that it is necessary sometimes to find a time to escape from the harsh realities of the world. But this plan seemed ridiculous, especially when Kale was convinced that they were being watched. I guess the amusement park angle served to further show just how isolated Kale had been as he questions every little bizarre attraction at the place. Things that seem like normal amusement park fare for us seem pointless to Kale. But all of this wasn't very interesting to me as a reader. I'm sure others feel differently about it. It just didn't work for me.

I thought that the villain for this piece, a man who had the ability to control others once they looked him in the eye, was interesting. That is a powerful talent to have, and this man, unfortunately, used it ruthlessly without any hint of conscience. I wish that there was more to the story. I wanted to understand more about his past interaction with Kale and how this experience affected Kale. I wanted there to be more of a discussion about how this ability had become so twisted in this man. It just seemed as if so much time was spent on the setup that the main event was neglected.

I only gave this novella two stars because I only thought it was okay, but I'm not giving up on this series. I see some great potential in this story, and once the story returns to the full novel length I have hope that I will find many of the elements I have found lacking in the first two installments I have read. This hasn't ended up being a favorite book of this genre for me, but others might enjoy the story. I just couldn't get over my inability to recognize Kale as a grown man. If you can do this, there is a chance you will find in these stories books you'll enjoy.

Untouched is a novella in Jus Accardo’s Denazen series.

The story follows Dez and Kale as they recruit Sixes, not only warn them and protect them, but also to gain their help in the fight against Denazen.

On their way to an amusement park for a day of fun (and firsts for Kale), Dez and Kale have one stop to make. They must warn Kiernan McGuire – a Six who can blend into her surroundings like a chameleon -- of the Denazen threat.

Upon meeting them, Kiernan’s very reluctant to trust them, even though she’s heard negative things about Denazen, and refuses to go to their sanctuary in Parkview.

In an attempt gain her trust and sway her decision, Dez and Kale invite her to join them at the amusement park under the pretense she can get to know them better and give her decision a little more thought. In spite of her initial reluctance, she eventually agrees to go with them, but shortly after they arrive they run into Samsen -- a Denazen agent who’s also a Six who can perform mind control – and all hell breaks loose.

Touched, the first novel in this series was written from Dez’s perspective; however, this novella is not. It’s written from the perspective of Kale, which gives the character a whole new feel.

In Touched, I saw Kale as very innocent and very much a victim of everything Denazen did to him; however, after reading Untouched, I’m not quite sure I still feel that way. I found there’s a very dark side to Kale that I didn’t get a sense of in the first book.

It’s not that he’s bad or evil and I do still feel he was a victim, but there are things he does in this story that are questionable, to say the least.

Even more disturbing, he’s very aware of the questionable nature of said things and clearly wants to hide this side of himself and these things from Dez.

Kale says it, or rather thinks it, best himself in the following passage:

“This. This was what I’d never wanted Dez to see. My true inner self. Because it was blackness and rage and parts made of death of violence. It wasn’t all I was, but it remained a large part an always would.”

Now, I must digress because despite my surprise with Kale’s perspective, I did thoroughly enjoy this novella. In fact, I gave it four out of five stars.

Not only do I absolutely love Dez’s spitfire attitude and the comedy that comes with Kale’s limited understanding of our ways, but I also love the world Ms. Accardo created. I actually find it very similar to Heroes – which at one time, was one of my favorite, must-watch shows.

If you’d like a quick and easy read; full of action, a lot of laughs, and even a little romance, this is the book for you.

Disclaimer: I bought this book with my own money and everything I have said is of my own honest opinion. I have not been paid to review this book.

4 swoon worthy stars for this short little read, "Untouched"!!

“You promised me my first coaster ride,” I said, leaning in to brush a quick kiss across her nose. She rose onto her toes and rubbed her nose against mine. There was a name for it—Dez had told me a few nights ago. Something about Eskimos, but I couldn’t remember, and it didn’t matter. Nothing mattered when I was with Dez.”
^^^^^ I mean, swoooooooonnn. Come on.

It was nice to get inside Kale's head and hear (well, technically read) his POV. He is a magnificent being who never fails to fascinate me and leave me in a puddle of swoon-y delight. I loved Untouched for that reason alone, but the splashes of drama throughout were a nice compliment as well. It's a quick read, but one I do feel is necessary if invested in this series. We meet Kiernan, a character that's in book 2, Toxic, and discover about her and the circumstances that bought her to be with the Sixes. Sure it's not absolutely mandatory that you read Untouched, but it just adds another layer of depth to this series and of course, more Kale time as well. Who wouldn't love that?

“I wondered if one day it would be possible for me to make Dez feel the way she made me feel. Perfect. Infallible. When she looked at me, I was the most important person alive.”

Like Touched, the romance between Dez and Kale is truly beautiful. Pure and full of so much passion and love it's such a damn shame this delicious creature named Kale is only fictional. Yes, he's badass and his touch can kill even the strongest, deadliest of beings but he's also gentle and compassionate and full of so much emotion and I adore every thing about him. Honestly, it's just hard to even put into words how fantastic Kale truly is.

The drama throughout Untouched is surrounding Kale and his past with an evil man called Samsen Cain. He is a Charmer, which means he had the ability to look into a persons eyes, just once, and control their being. A nasty creature and one who has unfinished business with Kale. What makes him a little more serious then other Denazen monkeys is Kales fear towards this man, the twisted and sick things he can and does make people do, and that he has not a single shred of humanity, is just completely void of anything except cruel, vicious, despicable doings. Paybacks are a bitch though. ;)

Definitely give Untouched a read, it's 100% worth it. (Read after Touched but before Toxic btw.)

Kale is going cross country with Dez to find and warn other Sixes about Denazen. He's learning a lot about the outside world on this trip and he gets to spend more time with Dez, which is always a plus. But when contacting the last Six Kale is sure they are being watched and when Samsen shows up and Dez sacrifices herself to save Kale, he knows he must find away to get her back. The problem? Samsen is the most powerful Six he has ever met and he might just be powerful enough to overcome Kale. Can he find a way to save Dez? You'll have to read to find out.

Holy shit. That's pretty much my entire response to this book. In Touch, Kale was adorable and perfect and we all fell in love with him. Here, we get into his head and holy alien babies! I didn't think it was possible to swoon anymore than I already had, but I was wrong. He reminds me a bit of Kyle XY, but deadly-er. He's so smart and has the whole fight thing master, but at the same time, he's got this worldly innocence. He doesn't understand much of the slang and he doesn't like how no one says what they really mean. Geez people, English is hard enough to master on it's own, without adding crazy connotations to everything. But watching him misunderstand everything had me cracking up. I wanted to hug him...except that I'm not Dez and that impulse would probably get me killed. It might be worth it!

Dez is the same badass she was in Touch. It's fun seeing her through Kale's eyes instead of her own.

Samsen, the new baddie, is terrifying. Someone who can control you with the power of their voice? ::shudders:: Can we not? That is one scary ass power. We all know that Kale will defeat him, but it's nerve-racking to read about.

This novella may be tiny, but it's action-packed. The only thing it was missing was a good make-out scene from Kale's perspective. It wouldn't have hurt to add a few pages for that, right? Oh well, I'll keep dreaming about that and hopefully we'll get there one day. Regardless, if you enjoyed Touch, you'll love this!

I have been so excited to read more from this series for so long now - I LOVED Touch - and although this is a short read, it's definitely keeping me going for now... until I can get my hands on Toxic, anyway!

Kale is one of my absolute favourite YA heroes at the moment - he's tough, protective and loyal, but oh so naive, which makes him both cute and hilarious, all in one go! It's an interesting mixture, and it really does work with his character. He also complements Dez's character really well - they really do make the best couple!
I was so excited when I saw that this was going to be from Kale's point of view - he definitely deserves to be given narrative voice for a while.
It took a little while to get used to the story being told by him - having become so used to Dez's voice in Touch - but it worked really well, and we get to see more of his adorable thoughts when he's presented with something he doesn't understand - especially phrases - it's pretty hilarious!
And of course, we see his character struggle with some painful memories from the past, as an unwanted reminder shows up in the form of Samsen. But Kale, as always, manages to overcome this in his own way, without losing himself in the process - luckily Dez is always there to reassure him - they're so cute together!

As for the story, I really enjoyed the way it ran so seamlessly from Touch into this. At the end of Touch, we know that they are going around, finding more sixes, and warning them about the dangers of Denazen, so it was great to actually see them doing this, and then to get to know one of the new characters.
Kiernan is really great too - it sounds as though she still needs some convincing, but I'm looking forward to seeing how she'll get on in Toxic - which I'm assuming she will have a small part in, at least - I'm hoping.

There's not really too much else that I can say about it, without giving too much away - so what I will say is Kale Love!
If you love him, get this! You're going to love it!
And if you've not come across Jus' stuff before - where have you been living? Go out and get Touch - you will not be disappointed!
