LGBT Paranormal

Marc's straight, always has been and thought he always would be, but when he's shown his true love in a magic mirror he's shocked to find out his true love is a man. Not only that, it's up to him to convince his true love they're meant to be together. All bad enough, but after finding Liam, the only way he’s able to persuade Liam to go out with him is to offer him sex – even though that's something Marc's definitely not ready for.

Liam thinks Marc is crazy. Marc's straight but he's talking about true love and making a life together. Liam doesn’t believe in love and he certainly isn’t going to fall in love with a crazy straight guy regardless of how sexy he is. But he hasn’t reckoned on Marc’s pushy attitude or his offer of sex which, no matter how much he knows he should, Liam can’t turn down.

Publisher's This book contains explicit sexual situations, graphic language, and material that some readers may find male/male sexual practices.

Penny is a complete romantic who believes everyone can fall in love if only they’ll open their heart to the possibility, which is why she writes those hot, erotic stories that will always have a happily ever after. However, it doesn’t mean she’ll necessarily make it easy for her men to get there. A lover of things that go bump in the night, Penny’s imagination can sometimes run riot, so magic mirrors and evil dolls is only the beginning.

Magic mirror as matchmaker showing a straight guy the love of his life that turns out to be a (gay) man.Nice idea that didn`t work for me...

Re-read the first chapter because - was that supposed to be a "local" mirror? Somehow cruel to show someone an image of their future love and telling them to find "the" love and convince him/her of being the "one and only" - without giving a location! Could turn out to be the sweaty job of several lifetimes...the first of a not so small number of plotholes.
Happy straight guy (or so he thought) Marc easily(!) accepted his fate as a now gay(for you) man - bound and determined to find "him" - and where did he start to search? In different gay bars one every evening of the week because that`s where you find "them",right? The first of a not so small number of cliches...(needless to say he found "him" on the sixth evening!)
It still could have been an enjoyable read - by reading it as the paranormal/fairy tale that it was - with more likeable MC`s. Liam was o.k. with his "I don`t do relationships please don`t love me" attidude, but Marc....
From straight and wanting to get married with lots of kids to stalker-ish drama queen and the worst chick-with-dick I`ve come across in a long while..."you said you would call me,why didn`t you?"...(hmph...that did it!)
Sex-scenes were well written with some sweet and even funny moments with the skittish Marc (who got swept from his feet at the first intimate touch from "him" including the famous GFY-phrase "it never felt so good before" - I can`t hear/read it anymore!) BUT....see "chick-with-dick"!

Rant over...

Straight guy/gay guy; romantic/cynic; problem solver/problem avoider - a match made in heaven, right? Maybe not, but it's a match made in the Looking Glass, which has the power to show the right person an image of their True Love. When Marc goes looking for coffee one morning, he finds a mysterious antique store and Simon instead. Simon is the keeper of the Looking Glass mirror, and informs Marc that the bewitching man he sees instead of his own image is Marc's True Love.

Just a few minor obstacles: Marc is (or always has been) straight; Simon can't tell him who, or where, this man might be; and if Marc CAN find him, he's got a bit of a problem explaining why they are meant to be together. Oh, and figuring out what to do when they DO get, um, together.

Liam thinks the strange (but hot) straight guy who finds him in a bar one night is a bit cracked, but finds the challenge of showing Marc why he's got the wrong guy kind of sexy and oddly compelling. It's an interesting switch-up, having the straight guy pursuing the gay guy and trying to persuade him they were meant to be together. It has the "what's hot about manlove" aspect that those who like GFY stories will enjoy, and the "everyday magic" dynamic that was in "Blind Passion". It reminded me a bit of Lynn Lorenz's "Common Powers" trilogy - not woo-woo paranormal powers, but an acceptance of a more interesting reality than most of us live with.

This is a fun, sweet, hot & sexy story that reminds you that someone who loves you is the best mirror of all.

Ok, I'll start out by saying I would have liked the mirror explained a bit better, but going by the epilogue I'm guessing it will be explained more indepth in Simon's story.
The story itself was sweet but a bit heavy on the sex, sex will get me Liam, constant errections.....and really Liam's reticence got a old fairly quickly for me, he's an adult, a businessman and yet, he still thinks he'll turn into Daddy? I was torn between giving Marc the saint of the year award and the most pushy, aggressive, won't take no for an answer award.
But, I liked the premise and read the book straight through.

This was a wonderful little story ... I liked the way I could side-step incredulity with the fairytale set-up ... This was insta-love and gay-for-you without the tutting and eye-rolling ... The characters of Liam and Marc were beautifully portrayed too.

I liked how Marc, after having a private freak-out, just decided to dive in the deep end and go along for the ride ... There were also some funny bits with Marc's internal dialogue causing me to laugh out loud ... This is a lovely piece of whimsy that is deeply satisfying ... I am looking forward to reading Simon's story and I would love to read about Marc coming out to his family too ... Just wonderful.

The rating is actually 2.5 stars--I simply abhor the fact that I do not know how to fill in half a star here at goodreads!

There is this sandwich spread here in the states--it is called fluffernutter--you make it by combining peanut butter with whipped marshmallow--many tell me it is an acquired taste--not everyone's cup of tea so to speak. You have to get just the right combination--too much peanut butter and the mix is rubbery--not very smooth. Too much fluff--and the mix is runny, unable to stay on the bread--not a very good spread. I think this book...Choices by Penny Brandon...is like that---not everyone's cup of tea--a bit like fluffernutter gone just awry in many ways.

This book was an interesting twist on the old standard "gay for you" formula. The twist? Marc walks into an antique shop, is shown a magic mirror and in it is the reflection of his one true love---a man. Marc is straight, horrified, and then proceeds to buy it hook line and sinker--a bit fluffy--that immediate coming to terms with a "magic mirror" that just told me I am gay--a bit too easy. Next comes finding the man--Marc hits every gay bar in a 10 mile radius--and finally discovers Liam--a "I only have sex and never get involved" gay man. Marc explains why the two of them must now date--fall in love--even though the idea of being with a man slightly repulses Marc--scares him. And right about now I began to scratch my head--this was well, this was different. Of course, Liam agrees to being the "experimental" sex partner, but flat out refuses to let Marc become involved with him. The reason? A bad home life--now don't get me wrong--I am not meaning to belittle the story arc here--but really? Can we pack any more cliche's into this novel? Again--too much fluff--not enough substance--not enough peanut butter.

Suffice it to say--there is a HEA. Also, both of these men are very likeable--sweet to each other and conflicted in their own way. The story had all the markings to be a really good story--a better story than it turned out to be, I think. Unfortunately the author relied too much on old conventions--old story arcs and pieced them together in a bit of a hodgepodge fashion. The end result was a sweet but overall weak story. Choice by Penn Brandon fell just short of the mark for me--however, she has some very nice MC's--just a weak storyline and that left me less than satisfied!

Also a book I won at the group’s 3rd birthday celebration. I’m lucky, I know;)

Choices was on my to be read list for a while, I just hadn’t gotten to buying it. I was pleasantly surprised with it but I also knew what to expect. As long as you can get past the “ you’re my other half and one chance at true love” part you’ll enjoy this story. Actually, come to think about it, not really that different from shifters and mates stories. The paranormal tag is just the premise, so if you’re not a fan don’t let it discourage you.

Now, on with my likes and dislikes :) I liked the fact that a straight guy was actually the active one in the relationship, trying to win over Liam, the gay one. I’m used to being it the other way around so it was a nice change. I enjoyed their interactions and that fact that the book was mostly all about them. The lack of interference from the rest of the world was good for this story in my opinion. I liked how pushy Marc was :) I liked them. Period.

I think Penny had two choices with this book with the elements that she used. She could make it a feel good story, a comfort read that you can read with a light heart. I feel like this was the option she chose. A good one, because for me it worked.
But she could have also used the potential for angst Liam’s story had ( and Marc’s) and make this a longer and different book altogether. That book I would have probably loved :)

Still, a lovely book that I’m glad I finally got to reading!

Almost forgot…. Was the epilogue just a way to end the story in a circular way or dare I hope for a sequel ? If so, definitely interested in reading it :)

You know if I had read this story when it first came out I think I would have absolutely loved it and probably would have given it 5 stars. But things have changed, the way I look at things has changed and I expect more from the stories I read now.

If this story didn't have the fantasy element with the magic mirror I would have had a whole lot of trouble with it. The GFY story line was hard to believe, it always is for me. If Marc was bi or bi-curious my feelings about this story would be different and I'm pretty sure I would have said I loved it. The romance is great and the guys are great but I really struggled to get past the totally straight guy falling in love with the gay guy even with the magic mirror twist. Marc's continued declaration at the beginning of "but I'm not gay" drove me crazy! If there had of been some tiny bit of interest somewhere in his life where he found men attractive no matter how small, that would have worked better for me.

Ignoring the GFY story line the romance between Marc and Liam was sweet and beautiful. There was definitely a strong connection there and they clearly needed each other. If you don't have an aversion to GFY stories you'll love this and if you're curious be warned that part of the story is hard to believe, fantasy or not.

After saying all of that I am going to read the next story in this series because I really did like the romance between Marc and Liam.

The beginning was kind of slow-paced, slightly boring if you ask me, and Marc's sister only made it worse by being... well... her, I guess. You'll know what I mean when you start reading the book, or maybe that's just me and you won't be rolling your eyes as much as I did mine. Fortunately, that's the only bad thing I have to say about this book. The rest, by contrast, was very enjoyable. And I'm not exaggerating, I truly couldn't put Choices down until I finished the last page! And how I loved the ending! I'm so happy Marc and Liam got their happily ever after. I hope Simon and whoever he is destined to be with will get their own HEA, too. Can't wait for the second book, hopefully about Simon :)

All in all, Choices is a very enjoyable book. If not for the beginning it would be a 5 star read. Oh, and please, don't give up if you don't like the beginning. You will probably love the rest. I certainly did.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this had quite a bit more depth than I'd been expecting from a story with a magic mirror that tells a straight man that the only person he'll ever be happy with is a man.

Marc and Liam's interactions were enthralling, and it was completely endearing how much they helped each other overcome their various issues.

This story was simply beautiful. Sure, the start was a bit strange in an unusual way, but really pulling. For my piece of mind it was to short and undeveloped, but even so purely romantic. I wanted to read more about Marc and Liam, but this plot was built deliberately to convince Liam to love again. And nothing more. And from this point we were not disappointed it's a pure romance.

How have I not read this author before?!? I loved this book. If it had made me even a little weepy I would have 5-starred it. One of the best "man-sex virgin" stories I've ever read. This guy was completely freaked out!! "Do I touch it? Lick it?" lol, he had no clue. Fabulous!! I just wish I could read the others in the series right the hell now but I have to wait!! Damn.

This short romantic mirror-mirror tale was very imaginative with attractive qualities and possibilities..had it been better executed.

But I must say that the sexual chemistry was a great blend of yin & yang energy and probably one of the better representations I've read..and most definitely is this writer's strong suit.

Loved it! What can I say? I'm a hopeless romantic and the idea of finding true love like that is sooo romantic...

Marc fought hard for it but finally he got his HEA.

Looking forward for the next in the series!

Without knowing why, Marc enters an antique shop, where the shop-keeper shows him a mirror. In the mirror, he sees his true love, only that his true love is a man (Marc is straight as an arrow). At first he cannot believe it, but luckily it does not take him long to accept it. He decides to visit gay bars trying to meet this guy. When he does, he goes directly to the point. Liam (his true love) is flattered but of course, he thinks Marc is a bit nuts, especially considering that he is straight. But he is amused, and very attracted to Marc, so he accepts a date.

Although Marc is a bit scared, and not entirely convinced with sex between men, he cannot deny he lusts after Liam. I did not expect this cute, hot romance.

Marc does some research about gay sex and he is not interested. But when he is with Liam is a different story. On the other hand, Liam does not do relationships. He only has one-night-stand, never fall in love, etc. His reasons to avoid falling in love are lame, but I was not bothered by it. There needed to be a "reason" for them to not be together so fast. Once he meets Marc, there is no other guy for him, although he keeps telling Marc and himself that it is only about sex (they take it step by step, not all the way in the first night. Mainly because Liam "does not catch", and he wants Marc to really consider about it... and on the other hand, Marc suggests to be the top, but Liam will only enjoy it with someone he loves, so imagine where that goes at the end )

They may have known each other for only a few days, and may be things go a bit quick, but why delay the inevitable? The mirror told Marc that Liam is his true love . And frankly, it was impossible not to fall for Marc. He was cute, pushy, confident, never insecure to be with a man (well, yes he was, but not in his actions), and he was always happy to be with Liam. The romance was incredibly cute , with a lot of steamy moments . A true G4U romance.

The only fantasy element of the story is the mirror. Besides that, it is a normal, fun MM romance. But the mirror is essential.

I am not really interested in the sequel, to be honest. But I may consider it. (Edit: oh, it is not Simon's story, luckily).

Read in about 5 hours, same day. Hard to put it down.

Choices takes a distinctive turn on the Gay For You trope. In it, Marc who always thought he was straight looks into a magical mirror and sees the face of his one true love: Liam. Scared for all of one minute about his soon-to-be change in sexuality, Marc decides to hunt down Liam and see if they are compatible. And boy are they! However, there’s one big problem that must be addressed before Marc can have his happy ending. He has to convince Liam — who only wants Marc for sex — that true love can really exist.

Normally, the straight guy is magically converted to being gay is not a big turn on for me because it seems so unrealistic. But in Choices, the thing that sells the novel’s plot for me is Marc. His characterization is so honest, so unwavering in the fact that he loves Liam and they can overcome anything, that as the reader you start to believe it too. Plus, the chemistry between Marc and Liam… No wonder Marc is so ready to turn gay for Liam. Can we say hot?

Overall, Penny Brandon’s novella is a satisfying read. For readers of the GFY plot-line, you will find a unique twist to that trope that makes Choices a delight. Plus it looks like there will be a sequel as the magic mirror has more couples to get together. So I am definitely looking forward to more in this universe.

this book is realy hot. if you like gay for you.

heres the premise, straight guy gets pulled by some unkown force to as shop with a magic mirror that shows you your hearts love. but what it shows him is not a wife but a guy.

What follows is how do you meet the gay guy and convince him that he will be the love of your life and that you will be his. No easy task when you tell him a magic mirror showed you, this is even harder when the guy your trying to convince doesn't beleive in love and only wants sex.

Enjoy... I know I did

When Marc is drawn to a strange little antique store, he had no idea that his whole life was going to change. One look in a mirror shows him who the love of his life is - a man! Marc has gone through life believing he is straight and his struggle with this new development is really fun to read. Poor Liam, when he walks by Marc in a bar he sees a cute man, not the person that is going to change his life. I loved Marc's stubbornness and persistence and Liam's slow acceptance of what Marc is offering him.

I really enjoyed this book. Loved the premise of a magical mirror that shows you your true love. Marc was really adorable and I liked Liam a lot as well. I was happy to see on the author's blog that this is the start of a new series. Can't wait for the next one, which I am hoping will be Simon's story.

Holy crap this was a great story!

I've read many GFY (Gay For You) stories, but this one was something different. Told from the perspective of a straight man who knows that a gay man is his destined love. The problems? The gay man doesn't know anything about it.

It was a fun, erotic read as the two men danced around the topic: Can a straight man really be happy with a gay lover?

I really enjoyed this book. I loved how Marc didn't give up and he went after what he wanted. And poor Liam didn't have a chance, Marc was going to have him whether Liam wanted it or not:). I wish it was longer. I would have liked to see what their future looks like and if they ended up with a family.

3 stars. I really loved the idea of this story with the magic mirror finding your true love. And the 'straight' guy chasing the gay one was also unique. Overall a sweet read, but just a bit too much sex for me. (I was expecting a little more angst, but there's surprising little of it)
