Second edition, copyrighted in 2013 and published in 2024. A quick, affordable read to review American government and politics for the CLEP (College-Level Examination Program). The author remains politically neutral for most of the book, with a few random asides. It includes a couple of practice exams and access to additional online material. My only complaint is that the content has been only minimally updated since the 2008 election—the most noticeable change being the inclusion of the overturning of Roe v. Wade. A solid study guide, but not exactly compelling reading on its own.
Update: easily passed with an adjusted score of 73 (20: low, 50: pass, 80: high)
Really great resource for passing the CLEP exam. I studied this book for about a week, took the practice tests online (the same version as in the back of the book), and passed with flying colors. I had no previous knowledge of American Government, aside from what I learned in 8th grade, many many many years ago. There were a few questions that I had no idea on and I’m not sure if the topics were covered in this book, or if the information just did not stick. Had I studied anything else in addition to this book, perhaps those gaps would have been filled. But I’m pleased with the result. I passed the test and no longer have to take the full course for credit! It’s all I can ask for.
