Книга повящена последней на данный момент версии продукта Microsoft Exchange. MS Exchange неразрывно связан с Active Directory, поэтому немалая часть книги отдана описанию этого решения. В первых главах приводится краткая история развития Exchange, обзор его возможностей, а также нововведений в версии 2010. В следующих частях книги идет детальное описание структуры продукта (ее необходимо понимать для правильного планирования, дизайна развертывания и администрирования/поддержки) и сопустствующих ему технологий, служб и утилит (Active Directory, LDAP, PowerShell, EMS, DNS, протоколов и т.д). В дальнейших главах книги описывается развертывание, настройка, защита, миграция и оптимизация окружения.

Каждая глава книги содержит введение в контекст (все приводимые иструкции описывают не только "как/когда", но и "зачем"), а так же описание упоминаемых в дальнейшем служб. Поэтому кроме непосредственно Exchange книга позволяет ознакомиться (повторить) со многими другими технологиями и системами.

В книге содержится как справочный материал (например инструкции, которые достаточно просто просмотреть, чтобы знать где потом искать), так и описание технологий и философии продукта, которое полезно внимательно прочитать, понять и запомнить.
