A year ago in Afghanistan, Green Beret Heath Daniel’s career was destroyed. Along with his faith. Now he and his military war dog, Trinity, train other dogs and their handlers. Though his passion is to be back in action, the medical discharge has forced Heath—and Trinity—to the sidelines. Military intelligence officer Darci Kintz is captured while secretly tracking the Taliban. Only one dog can handle the extreme conditions to save her. Trinity. Only one man can handle Trinity. Time is running out on the greatest—and most dangerous—mission of their lives.
Ronie Kendig is a bestselling, award-winning author of over thirty books. She grew up an Army brat, and now she and her Army-veteran husband have returned to their beloved Texas after a nearly ten-year stint in the Northeast. They survive on Sonic runs, barbecue, and peach cobbler that they share--sometimes--with Benning the Stealth Golden and AAndromeda the #mwdwashout. Ronie's degree in psychology has helped her pen novels of intense, raw characters.
Since launching onto the publishing scene, Ronie’s Rapid-Fire Fiction has hit the CBA Bestseller List, won the prestigious Christy Award, Carol Award, the RT Reviewers' Choice Award (twice), the HOLT Medallion, the IRCA, and FamilyFiction’s Readers’ Choice Awards.
I like military fiction and animal tales, so I expected to really love this story. However, it didn't quite deliver, especially in terms of really knowing Darci as a character. Knowing only two facets of her past made it very difficult to get a truly "3D" sort of feel for who she was as a person and as a spy. It was obvious she was a woman of faith now, but what made her so? At what point? So I felt a lot more bonded to Heath and sure of who he has as a man, a character, and a Christian--even though Darci had more page time than he did. And I never really made sense of the group getting the men and dogs back together and how they were doing it, because the book was so mission-focused. But the story did mostly keep my attention and I will be continuing the series.
I'm a little new to the military suspense genre. I've heard wonderful things about Ronie Kendig's talent for story-telling, so I decided it was high time to check her out. Although, I'm not a huge dog lover (don't hate me!), I thought Trinity sounded like an interesting book. The story was great! I liked Heath from the very beginning. He's struggling to figure out what to do with his life after suffering a traumatic brain injury and jumps at the chance to go back to Afghanistan—even if it's simply to talk to the troops. All of his challenges seemed so realistic, and I had such compassion for him! Darci was a unique character as well. It took me a while to warm up to her, but once I did, I loved her! The back and forth between Heath and Darci and the action-packed story made for a great read!
There were a few things that kept me from completely falling in love with the story. One, the vast number of characters! I had a really hard time keeping everyone straight—even more so because many of the characters went by multiple names. The Chinese operatives had such similar names (some even overlapping between first and last name!) ... it was too much for me to keep straight. The story also jumped through so many different people's perspectives that I often found myself having to go back to re-read to refresh what was actually going on; the transitions were not clear. Finally, I found the background story to be a little convoluted. I eventually gave up trying to figure it out and just focused on the current happenings, which helped me keep moving.
Even with these "negatives", the good out-weighed the bad and I enjoyed the book! I will definitely read other books by this author. Now I just have to decide which one to read next! [3.5 stars]
I received a temporary e-copy of this book from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for my fair and honest review.
What do you get when you mix a wounded hero, a beautiful spy, and one super-smart MWD? (That’s Military War Dog if you don’t know.) You get one fun read! Those ingredients, blended with some international intrigue, a blossoming romance, and some thrilling military action make for page-turning excitement. As always, Ms. Kendig does an excellent job creating believable character arcs set within a fast-paced plot.
Being a dog enthusiast, I particularly loved reading about the close relationship between Trinity and Heath, her handler. They are more than partners; they are best friends. A great example of the bond formed between dog and human. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I think that the author is an excellent writer, but some aspects of this book made it difficult for me to get through and enjoy. First, I think the title is odd and does not make sense. The focus of the story is not the dog, which I think is actually a good thing. (I would not be interested in a book that was entirely about a dog.) The focus of the story is mainly the dog's owner (a veteran with a TBI), an American female spy, and military operations in Afghanistan. It was an exciting story with many scenes of suspense and danger. And here is the next problem. I think that the author tries to build suspense by being deliberately obscure in the details of the back stories. I find that very frustrating, as there are so many characters, and they go by multiple names. For example, the female lead had at least three aliases and it was difficult to keep track of who everyone was, and who knew whom by each persona. Then, I could not understand the back story and actions of the female lead, who was a Christian. We caught a hint of actions she took as a spy that were inconsistent with the Christian faith, but it was never fully explained or disclosed as to what she did and why. Finally, there were many scenes of torture, which I really abhor reading about. I did really enjoy the main male character, and the ending resolved things reasonably well (except for not fully explaining everything). I'd like to read this author again, but I hope that her other books less frustrating.
This was the second book by Ronie Kendig which I read, the first being which was a very fast paced, full of action suspense.
Trinity had a lot going on. There was a lot of characters and stories going on in Trinity, which resulted in a slower pace. The last 20% was fast and full of action. Even though the book was at a slow pace, I did enjoy it and the stories and mysteries in the book kept me intrigued. There was a lot of mysteries which fell into place at the end of the book, which I didn't see coming.
I love dogs, and Trinity was just adorable. There were times I was worried for Trinity's life (I cry very easy when an animal is in danger), and loved Heath just so much more when he threw his body over hers in order to protect her and where he carried her on his shoulders so that she can rest.
Heath and Darci's characters were also very enjoyable. Both had some issues to work through - Heath not feeling good enough after he was discharged by the green berets and Darci due to her past and her mother's death. The struggles they faced were about their identity and trust and it was great to see them grow and get that answers from God.
The bad guy was just evil with no compassion. Some of the things he did to Darci and his men were just vicious.
The book jumped around a lot from a few characters' view points, and the author did a great job of changing the feeling of each character. I felt like each character had their own feel and identity and struggles and each own received each own voice.
The action, torture and recovery plan were done very well, I felt like I was there with them, planning and hiding and running from the enemy.
It was fun to meet the other A Breed Apart team, and looking forward to their books as well.
So I actually started this book way back in February, and was initially a little disappointed. I’d seen SO many people that I love raving about it, and at first, to be completely honest, it was a good book, but I wasn’t loving it like I’d hoped to. I read about 60 pages, then had to put it down…and wasn’t able to pick it up again until now due to heaps of books for review.
But then. This month. One afternoon I finally had a little down-time from review books, so I picked it up again, jumped back in…and was swept away. Wow. The action was non-stop, whipping through scenes in a very readable way. This is a war story that has alarming suspense (just what suspense should be!) and sweet romance (oh so sweet), all set in the Middle East. This book is definitely heart-pounding, and sure to keep you reading! I know, I was able to put it down at first…and you know? It may have just been my mood that day. But if the beginning feels slow to you, don’t worry – it picks up and flies in no time. By the end, I liked it so much that there are two things to note. 1. I gave it a 9.5. And 2. I promptly wrote the publisher and begged for a copy of Talon: Combat Tracking Team to review. And you know what? They sent it to me! Now I just have to start it. :) I’m definitely looking forward to reading more by Ronie!
**I know this is a popular book for review, but I went and bought my copy. As usual, all opinions are my own and no one was making me write a positive review.**
Trinity is only the second book I've read by Ronie Kendig (the first being Firethorn), but I can already tell I'm a fan of her work! Trinity had a lot of action, intrigue, and was just an overall great military novel!
I loved Heath's dog, Trinity! She was so well trained and there were some scenes where I wish I could have seen the things she did. :) The characters were nice - I really liked Heath, Peter, and Timbrel (I am really looking forward to her book, as I found her character very interesting and even funny at times). The characters seemed very realistic (especially Heath).
One of the only negatives I had with Trinity was how hard it was to keep track of the characters at first - there were so many characters introduced, so quickly. It did get easier, though, to remember who was who. Also, the story got a little confusing sometimes, but most of my questions got answered in the end.
Trinity had some surprises, intense action scenes, and even some romance! The entire story was really good and I loved the ending. I look forward to reading the next book, Talon, as soon as I can. I definitely recommend Trinity if you enjoy suspenseful reads with military aspects.
*I received this book for free for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
Green Beret Heath Daniels’ feels his life is over after he suffers a head injury and is discharged from the military. When he is offered a chance to train other military dogs and their handlers, he jumps at the chance to prove himself and to perhaps be allowed back in the military. Will he and his dog Trinity be able to save the captured Darci Kintz before she’s killed or Heath suffers another blackout from his brain injury?
Fans of fast paced military thrillers will love this new series by Ronie Kendig, and animal lovers will enjoy it even more. From the first page to the last, there is one adventure and twist and turn of the plot after the other. What Kendig does well is that action scenes aren’t for entertainment purposes only—each event or catastrophe adds a layer to the development of the characters. For example, Darci annoyed me at first, but as she endured being captured and tortured, her character developed into one that I enjoyed.
At the beginning of the book, I was a little overwhelmed with the number of characters. It was too many too soon and they had nicknames to keep up with too. Once the introductions were over and the plot began to develop, I enjoyed the characters, especially Trinity, Heath’s dog. Her loyalty and strength made her my favorite character. Another thing I enjoyed about the book was its ending. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but I was happy it wasn’t the typical happily ever after. It was realistic and sweet.
What a read! It's that kind of book where you are rushing through it, biting your nails as you read as fast as possible in order to see what on earth is going to happen next...yet you're heartily depressed when you reach the end!!
Ah well, every good book MUST come to an end. Sadly! Needless to say, I am looking forward to the release of Talon VERY much!! Both Talon and his owner, Apsen, were characters I wanted to get to know more. Not sure what I make of Timbrel. I have my doubts about that woman... But I'm confident that by the time she and Beowolf get the spotlight with their own book, Ronie Kendig will get me to like her just as much as I like all the other characters brought to life through her talented writing. :-)
Trinity combines Kendig's trademark discarded heroes with the military war dogs. The result is a book I couldn't put down and thoroughly enjoy. Kendig writes military very well, placing the reader in the middle of the action and not letting go. At the end there were a couple times I had to stretch what I thought could really happen, but I willingly did it because I wanted the characters to win. And the twists and turns were great. Combine a broken hero with a broken heroine, an international crisis on the horizon and one amazing dog and this is a great military thriller/suspense. Thoroughly enjoyed it and CANNOT wait for the next book!
Love love love this story!! It can be so hard when life doesn't go the way that we thought it would, when good things that we've worked so hard for are taken away. It doesn't seem fair and it hurts so badly. But those are the moments where clinging to God is the only thing that can get us through, and knowing that His plans for our lives are so much better than anything we could ever want or imagine. It's in the letting go that we get to the place of trust that no matter what happens He loves us and better things are on the way.
Trinity: Military War Dog was my first introduction to the military suspense genre.
I think I'll have to read a few more Ronie Kendig books from this series to fully settle into the writing style, pace and setting. However, the characters were well done and interesting, and the two MC's had an adorable relationship.
Now this could be because I need to get used to it by reading more of Ronie's books, but I found it difficult to visualize what was happening a lot of the time. Especially from Heath's point of view. I found there was lots of detail, but at the same time, some of the basic details you give people so they can "see" what's going on, were left out. It took more effort on my part to comprehend/get into the story than I generally like. But, the plot was intricate and at one point I felt the emotion bubbling up inside me. Not my favourite read, but I'm willing to try more of this style in the future.
Brilliant! Trinity is an extraordinary solider! She has keen skills and instincts. Watching her in action was amazing! Her handler, Heath Daniels, is an incredibly handsome warrior. I enjoyed following along on the mission of the Special Forces unit in Afghanistan.
Ms. Kendig has expertly crafted this unique story. She has handled the PTSD and TBI issues with great grace. Spiritual truths are clearly evident within the pages of this story.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy stories with heart-pounding action that honors our military.
I purchased a copy from Amazon. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
I have to admit, when Ronie Kendig announced she was going to do a book series on military war dogs, I was afraid that I wouldn't like it. I have loved everything Ronie has written to date so why would I feel this way about this series? Well, I'm not a gigantic fan of books written about animals. I enjoy pets (I have many of them!) but I'm scared to death of dogs bigger then me!! All that being said, at this point, I believe Ronie could write an instruction manual for just about anything and I would love it!
I started this book and had a difficult time putting it down!! I don't know why I ever doubted Ronie's talent in convincing me that this was going to be a great book!!! Heath "Ghost" Daniels is a former Green Beret who acquired his military war dog (MWD), Trinity. They are asked to work for A Breed Apart, which is a training program for MWDs and their handlers. In return, they speak to troops to inspire them on the field. When an opportunity arises to go on a mission field, Heath and Trinity are all in...until the others are invited too. No one seems to trust Ghost since his accident that left him with a medical discharge and the looming diagnosis of traumatic brain injury.
Darci is an operative who is doing her best to undo a Chinese military operation. She has done many missions before and is ready for this one. However, a certain dog handler and his dog caught her eye early on during a show. The General was not happy to see her distracted so he sent her away. Only when she comes up missing do things really start to go into action.
Trinity is a beautiful dog. I'd still be scared of her but would admire her from a distance. Her job is extremely important and she misses the action that she and Ghost once enjoyed. When given the chance to get back into the field, Trinity is all in!
Trinity will capture your heart right away and will not let go until the last person is saved. I didn't realize just how important these dogs were to the military (sorry, I have a very limited scope of what our military does!). I did't realize that MWDs earned ranks along with their trainers. Trinity has a higher rank than her faithful friend Ghost. I have a much greater appreciation now of the military and the training that takes place because of what Ronie has written into her books. She is a "military brat" who extensively researches her subjects before writing on them.
My favorite aspect of this book was that Ronie incorporated another "Discarded Hero" into writing. She always maintains that these men and women in uniform are heroes. That means mountains to me!! While this is a work of fiction, Ronie has you believing that this is a real to life story. The end of the book does provide a story of someone who this is loosely based on.
Thank you, Ronie for yet another great book and for helping me to appreciate MWDs and other beautiful creatures even more!
Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book to review.
Wow, this is the kind of book that will make you appreciate military war dogs and their handlers whether you're prepared for it or not! Candace Calvert endorsed this book and this is what she had to say, "Dodge bullets, cling by your fingerprints to an icy cliff--then fall heart first for a wounded hero and his incredible military war dog. You won't sleep, but please remember to breathe." I think Candace PERFECTLY describes what every reader will experience with this book, I made sure to remember to breathe many times while reading this :)
The story becomes so real, I even hunched down every time gunfire came upon the good guys! I actually got tired of the gunshots because it was wearisome for me to see that constant danger for the good guys, but that goes to show how GOOD the writing is :) I couldn't believe anyone would fire at a dog, but that is part of war and one of the many reasons why war is horrible.
There is one torture scene in the story, but it's not graphic at all and the person getting beaten is unconscious for most of it. I couldn't believe her high threshold for pain....shot, kicked, threatened, slapped, punched, electrocuted, and THEN getting through a snow storm and getting caught in an avalanche. My nickname for her was either Mrs. Incredible or Supergirl considering that this brutal environment is what compelled her to believe in God and ultimately gives her the freedom she missed out on while being a spy. She reminded me slightly of Sydney from Alias because she didn't mind getting beat up, but the thought of innocent people being injured or killed on her behalf is what scared her/angered her/pushed her to survive.
My favorite parts of this book were: Trinity....WOW, what an AMAZING dog!! And we're NOT allowed to pet her?! Loved this canine fiercely and whenever she was in danger, I was HOOKED to the story to see what happened next.
The scene where Trinity, Talon and Beowulf and their handlers all meet one another....WHAT a GREAT scene! Also utterly enjoyed how A Breed Apart team backed up Heath/Ghost, the humans.
Lastly, I loved how Exodus 14:14 was illustrated for Heath after the rescue takes place. That was very precious to me how he learned to let go and trust God and it was exhilarating for him to get this revelation. The author has signed this scripture many times on books I've won from her and it was deeply appreciated how she wrote this scene in :)
God bless military war dogs/their handlers and God bless the author for giving them a voice!
TRINTY, book one in the A Breed Apart series is exciting, suspenseful, and romantic. What else would you expect from a Ronie Kendig book?
Heath Daniels’ military career is over. After suffering a traumatic brain injury in a bombing in Afghanistan, Heath is discharged from the army. His only saving grace, Trinity−his military war dog−refuses to be handled by anyone else and is retired, giving Heath his partner back. Together, Heath and Trinity end up at the A Breed Apart training facility where war dogs and their handlers get a second chance to show the world their worth and share what God has done in their lives. Serving as a morale booster and spokesman for the A Breed Apart organization, Heath finds himself back in Afghanistan on the same base with his former team. Angry that God has allowed him to be sidelined, he can’t argue the fact that he’s not healthy enough to be back in action. Atrocious headaches and unexpected blackouts deem him a risk to himself and the members of his former team.
But all that is about to change.
When intelligence officer Darci Kintz is captured and missing somewhere in the brutal Hindu Kush mountain range, Trinity is notably the only dog that can handle the extreme terrain and temperatures−and Heath is the only man who can handle Trinity. There is more at stake than just an extraction. Heath and Darci are not strangers, and though their time together was extremely brief, Heath wants nothing more than to find Darci and see if a relationship is in the cards for a wounded warrior and a international spy.
I am definitely on a Kendig kick right now. I guess that’s the dangers of buying a whole series at the same time. The A Breed Apart series is just as electric as Ms. Kendig’s The Quiet Professional series−they even have overlapping characters. Of course, the intensity is now three-fold since not only do you−as the reader−worry about the two main characters, but now there is a canine involved in every precarious shootout, avalanche, sniper fire, and bombing. I love the characters that Ms. Kendig creates. They are people on honor and integrity, but far from perfect. While Darci’s background is rather complex, Heath’s is quite simple. He has an uncle back in the states, but it is clear Trinity is his whole life . . . until Darcy comes along and rattles his world.
Next Stop . . . TALON, book two in the A Breed Apart series.
About two years ago Green Beret Heath "Ghost" Daniels' military war dog Trinity saved his life from a bomb. He got injured and now suffers from Traumatic Brain Injury. Heath will black out for seconds when stressed out. He's frustrated that he can't go back into the military. Trinity refuses to work with another handler and so Heath can adopt her.
Now Heath and Trinity are part of A Breed Apart. Heath is starting to feel useful again. A Breed Apart is going on a mission to support soldiers in Afghanistan. Heath and Trinity are going to perform for them. While they are on the military base, Heath meets Darci Kintz aka Jia. Heath find himself attracted to her and they share some time together. The next day Jia leaves on a mission with a geological survey team. When an attack is reported on the location where Jia last was, Heath finds himself in a lot of stress and worry about her well being.
Heath and Trinity are coming with a Special Forces team to the location of the attack. There begins the most dangerous mission Heath and Trinity ever had. They are going to track down Jia and find out she was captured by a very dangerous man.
Will they come in time to rescue Jia? What will happen when Heath finds out Jia's real identity?
A Breed Apart is Ronie Kendig's new series. Like her other books this is again a rapid-fire read that keeps the readers on the edge of their seat! Nicely done, Ronie!
*Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my review copy. I was not required to write a positive review.*
Review originally posted on my blog Christian Novels This book was EPIC! Ronie Kendig is seriously one of the very best authors that I've read-and I've read A LOT! Every time a pick up one of her books I'm amazed by how much I'm drawn into the lives of the character and how superbly written every book is. Needless to say Trinity lived up to and exceeded my expectations! Heath was the perfect wounded hero. He was equally tender and strong, which is a quality you can't help falling in love with. I loved how easily read Darci and how he was relentless in his pursuit even though she kept pushing him away. The other great thing about him was his relationship with Trinity it was so cool how well they understood each other, the perfect team. Darci was a little more complicated than Heath but was still a great character. I loved her braveness, no way I could have done any of the things she did! It was cool to watch Heath break through her tough girl persona to the true Darci. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, you never knew what was coming! And there were so many cliffhangers it was impossible to stop at some points! If you even sorta like romantic suspense grab this book, you won't be sorry! I can't wait for book two Talon: Combat Tracking Team! May 2013 can't come soon enough!
Every book I read by Ronie Kendig just keeps getting better. In Trinity, I wasn’t sure what to expect because I knew nothing about Military War Dogs, but since I love all of Ronies other books, I knew it would but good. But it wasn’t just good, it was so awesome I didn’t put the book down until I finished it!
I can’t say enough about Heath Daniels and his military war dog. I was in awe of the relationship the two of them had and Trinity was just amazing! I grew to love that dog like it was my own! And as usual, Ronie Kendig throws so many twists and turns into the story that she keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book. I guess you can tell, I love, love this book, just as I love anything that Ronie Kendig writes! I can’t wait for the second book in this series to come out so I can meet another K9 friend!
I really recommend this book to whoever likes fiction. If you enjoy dog stories, or stories about war, you will enjoy this one too! Go grab a copy of this one, and watch out for the others in this amazing series from Ronie Kendig.
I received this book from Barbour Books to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 55.
This was one GREAT book!! Want high-impact action, military suspense, romance, adventure, great characters, and a theme that gets you thinking. . .than look no further than Ronie Kendig. This author has a knack for grabbing you and shoving you right in the middle of some pretty intense, heart-thumping action. Every night when I curled up to read, I felt like I was roaming around the blistery caves in Afghanistan with a loyal German Shepherd by my side, being targeted by rogue Chinese madmen. Now, how often do you get to feel like that? (Especially from the safety of your own couch.. which is where I prefer to be!) Ms. Kendig's characters are always wounded in some way. . .and I don't mean just on the outside, but that's what makes them real. Aren't we all wounded from life? Don't we all need second chances and new hope? That's exactly what the hero and heroine in this story need, from each other and from God. The fun part is watching them grow and change and reach out for that lifeline. Add to that tons of hunky military guys, the rescue of the hero's lady love, and my favorite character, Trinity, the dog who stole my heart, and this was one fun read!! I guarantee once you start this book, you won't be able to stop turning the pages.
Ronie Kendig is AMAZING!! Seriously amazing! Her books leave me literally holding my breath and turning the pages as fast as I can. And let me tell you, there’s a part in this story that if you are claustrophobic and scared of the dark (not saying I am or anything 😉) well, let’s just say you might repeatedly tell Heath to not go there...and then, because he doesn’t listen very well, poor poor Darci, she’s left - okay can’t go there -spoilers! But - so good! Anyway, Ronie creates the best characters, (whom she can be kinda mean to 😥, I mean there’s this part at the end where I’m literally crying! Ack!!) and she creates the best storylines!
Ronie also has a knack for leaving you hanging. She gets you to a seriously critical point and then ends the chapter! I mean you just can’t stop! When reading her books, I have to make sure I have a nice block of reading time set aside. Trust me, you don’t want to be reading this story while you are stopped at, say, a traffic light or anything like that because those behind you might get irritated when you don’t immediately go when the light turns green- in my defense, it’s a really long stop light and it was a critical part of the story! But, I digress! Obviously, I loved this story and highly recommend it. ❤️ On to Talon!!
The most surprising thing to me about this book is that I really liked it. With a military setting and a military war dog as a character, I wasn't sure I was going to get into this book.
It did take me a while. Kendig's writing style is true to the male POV, which is much different than other books I usually read. I had trouble following the action at first because it is fast-paced, but by the middle of the story, I was hooked and willing to follow it through.
And I'm glad I did. Kendig writes vivid scenes, and even though I'm not much of a dog person, I could "see" the mannerisms of Trinity as she described them. Also, she is SKILLED at getting the reader to turn the page. Chapters end on a cliffhanger and you just have to flip the next page to find out what's going to happen.
Downsides for me were mostly my own learning curve to adjust to the tempo of the story and the military lingo.
Otherwise, though, I'm glad I took a chance on a different kind of story.
A little too much drama in the first 30 pages, you have russians, afganistan, americans, chinese, you have a dog handler injured and decommissioned, a DIA who met said Green beret years before, oh but she is the daughter of a Chinese traitor, who lost his wife and son. Oh wait, the son may be working for the Chinese and adoptive father, Chinese General whose own son has been dishonored by said DIA agent years before. Let's throw in a general who thinks of said DIA as a daughter. Who is undercover as a geologist in Afganistan to gather intel only to find they are Chinese and she happens to run into the one man who brutally tortured her years before and yep, goes round two with him. Too many plots, too many people, and too much violence. Made it 2/3 of the way, 100 pages to go and I said gross, I am done.
Trinity is not the usual type of book I read, so I was a little skeptical about it, but I've gotta say that I enjoyed it so much! I was on the edge of my seat all throughout this book. I could not read it fast enough and when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it.
This book gave me a whole new perspective and respect for Military War Dogs. I didn't know much about them before this book, but I feel like I learned a lot while reading Trinity.
I can't believe how much I loved this book! I highly recommend it and I know this will not be the last Ronie Kendig book I'll read. I'm very much looking forward to Talon!
Trinity delivers romance laced with Ronie’s ‘rapid-fire’ suspense. The story is compelling, gritty, and intense. It kept me up all night; I only stopped reading because the Nook battery died. Trinity has a tight plot with plenty of twists, heartthrob military heroes, and descriptions so rich I could feel the tension. Ronie has a gift for developing characters you fall in love with. Wow another could not put down book loved loved this. Suspenseful, intense, just darn right so good. I will be reading the rest of them in the series can't wait to get them in my hot little hands!
A good story about War Dogs, their handlers and the effects on soldiers who have returned home injured... The ending was normal, but action a plenty... Certainly worth a read...
I have been reading the ABA Legacy books and decided to go back to read this original series. This just didn't work for me. It was engaging and a fairly easy read, but it missed the mark in multiple ways. The premise was intriguing but it did not deliver.
*SPOILERS*
The only real love story here is between Heath (MMC) and Trinity (his MWD), and it was amazing. The interactions between these two, and how wonderfully she wrote Trinity, is the only reason I rate this book 3 Stars.
The supposed love story between Heath and Darci (FMC) was non existent. At 25% into the book they hadn't even met. At 50% of the book they have shared two brief interactions, maybe a combined 90 minutes of time together. They are then separated, but both are thinking that the other person is "the one", and the next 40% of the book is filled with endless internal monologues and fantasies about their future together. It was ridiculous and so unbelievable it completely took me out of the story. They reunite near the end for a brief amount of time, separate again, then six months later she shows up to live with him and marry him. Without a SINGLE interaction between the two in that six months. That is bat crap crazy.
Outside the nonexistent love story, the story itself is just confusing - there are different POV chapters for multiple people but no headings, and so many characters with similar names, so you get to guess and reread pages to figure out who is who. I gave up on trying to figure out the Chinese characters, and honestly it made no difference in my enjoyment. The storyline is convoluted - timelines and distances don't make any sense. Motives are not fully explored or explained, and just don't add up. The ending felt rushed and was unsatisfying.
This was disappointing enough that I will skip the rest of this series, since they are not on KU
