The holidays are stamped for love in Christmas, Florida. While keeping her eye open for her next job lead, will nomadic event planner Stella find romance instead? How will one retired major change war widow Randi’s postcard-sending mission? Can photographer David Levine draw shy Gabi Archer out of her shell? Will retired police officer Rick Stanton be able to steal postmistress Edie Hathaway’s heart?
2 stars for all four stories. Each story takes place in Chistmas, FL between Thanksgiving and New Years. The stories had a bit of character crossover, which was nice. The each story had a happy ending, but I didn't like any of the characters. I did like the setting, though.
One of my favorite past times is to enjoy celebrating the Christmas season with a great book. Yet sometimes you find something a bit more amazing when you pick one up, much like I did, when reaching for Postmark: Christmas, I found a delightful and charming collection of 4 short Christmas romance stories all in one, centering around four different encounters in the town of Christmas, Florida. Each of the authors, Paige Winship Dooly, Darlene Franklin, Kathleen E. Kovach, and Paula Moldenhauer, each create a heartwarming romance story set with the town of Christmas, Florida as the background just as a Christmas festival is slated for the residents.
In the first story, Home for Christmas from Paige Winship Dooly, we immediately meet Stella McCall who has been hired as the event planner by Brick Myer to put together the town's Christmas festival. Stella's a seasoned road warrior who spends her life moving from town to town in her RV whenever the jobs call for her to plan a local event. Since most of her family has passed away, her only traveling companion is her GPS, she has affectionately named Roger. When she misses her exit, she finds herself trapped in deep sand trying to turn her RV around and she is rescued by none other than Brick Myer and his young son Seth. Has love trapped Stella in the town of Christmas for all the right reasons?
The next story in this collection is Merry Christmas, with Love from Darlene Franklin. Here we meet a young widowed mother, Randi Pearson, who has spent the last 5 years reaching out to service men and women sending them cards and letters as reminders that they are not forgotten. When she arrives to volunteer at the post office run by her mother, she meets fellow volunteer Major Troy Brennan, who has just retired from the army. He is seeking to find the lady who owns Box 1 at the post office because he believes God has planned for them to be together. It's through this woman's faithful correspondence that got his through his last tour and longs to tell her so. Will their fate be sealed with a Christmas card?
A Blessed Angel by Kathleen E. Kovach is the delightful third story in this collection. Gabi Archer works at Jungle Adventures Nature Park and dreams of falling in love with a man with an adventurous heart, that's why she's so attracted to Captain Ron, a co-worker who tells the most amazing stories of his adventures abroad, but when her friend Naylene, believes that they are just fabricated stories designed to entice the customers, she pushes her to find a real adventurer. In to the gift store walks David Preston, a national photographer who has been using his love of photography to bring the unseen life in nature into peoples lives through his pictures in National Geographic and other magazines and books. But it's his gentle heart that Gabi sees in interacting with her disabled sister, Jerica, who was hit by a drunk driver when she was a baby. Will David's past come back to spoil his hunt for love with Gabi?
The final story, You're a Charmer, Mr. Grinch by Paula Moldenhauer takes the reader back to meet Edie Hathaway, the postmaster of the local post office, and Randi's mother from the story Merry Christmas, with Love, who is being pursued by Rick Stanton, retired policeman, who is attempting to charm his way into Edie's heart. In fact, the whole town knows of his infatuation with Edie but it seems like Edie want's to keep him at arms length. What will it take to melt her heart and fall in love again?
I received Postmark: Christmas by these wonderful talented women compliments of Barbour Publishing and Net Galley for my honest review. This will be one of those books that I will continue to read as the Christmas season approaches to get into the Christmas spirit. Each of these heartwarming stories brings the people of Christmas, Florida together in a perfect blend of romance and the Spirit of the season. I easily rate this a 5 out of 5 stars and thinks it's the perfect book to read on a cold, night before a fire. For fans of Christmas Romance Fiction, this is a must read!
Postmark Christmas byPaige Winship Dooly, Darlene Franklin, Kathleen E. Kovach, Paula Moldenhauer 5 STARS
I had a great time reading Postmark: Christmas as I was getting handmade Christmas gifts made. It fits the mood I have beem in. Has 4 stories in the book all around Thanksgiving and Christmas set in the town of Christmas, FL. I love the idea of warm holidays and snow from a machine where you want it instead of on the roads & sidewalks. All these stories are clean reads and does have Christian values and lessons in them but not too much to put anyone off the book. Home For Christmas by Paige Winship Dooly Stella Grant arrives in Christmas on Thanks Giving and plans to eat turkey sandwich and drink cranberry juice for her holiday meal. She plans to park at local RV for the holidays while she works on planning their event festival for Christmas. She is startled while backing up and goes off the road and gets stuck in sand. Brick Myers is the one that honked instead of warning her about going off the shoulder caused her too do that. As Brick is towing her RV back on the road finds out she is event planner he hired and she is alone. So invites her to his farm and to thanksgiving dinner. Merry Christmas, With Love by Darlene Franklin Randi Peterson is a widow with a 18 year old troubled son. Every year since her husband was killed in the war she has sent tons of Christmas cards to soldiers each year. A few write back. Troy Brennan has come to Christmas to find the women who sent him Christmas card a couple of years back and he has writen her letters back and forth every month. So he is volunteering at postoffice stamping Merry Christmas on letters while he searches for her. He hopes to find her and have a future with her. But he keeps being drawn to Randi. A Blessed Angel Came by Kathleen E. Kovach Gabi Archer is really shy but she is really caring. She helps out a lot with her sister who is in a wheelchair. Gabi has a crush on someone at work. David Preston is visiting his sister for holidays. Taking his nephew to Jungle Jim and gift shop he meets Gabi. He is drawn to her but she mainly talks to his nephew. Gabi is asked to work at Christmas fair passing out flyers in costume. Gabi chooses a deer suit where she is totally covered. She has a pink tutu on the deer. Gabi breaks out of her shyness and teases David who is volunteering too. This story was emotional to me dealing drunk driving and forgiveness. You're a Charmer, Mr. Grinch by Paula Moldenhauer This story is teaching patience and trust and can be funny and touching. Rick Stanton is a retired policeman who has been trying to get Edie Hathaway to give him a chance. He has been at her for a couple of years. Rick volunteers at christmas dressed as the Grinch. He pulls over people and gives poems and then gift back of christmas items and coupons. The town is trying to get Edie to go out with him too. When Edie has car trouble after a motorist honks at her when she has steam rising from front he passes by her without stoping. He was a member of her church. Edie can not believe that Tom did not stop. Tom called Rick and told him Edie was having car trouble and where she was. Then when he was on his way Edie's daughter called Rick too asking him to help her mom. It is fun to watch the town all get involved with each other. I like how the stories connected to each other. I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley. 09/01/2012 PUB Barbour Publishing
Who knew there was a small town in Florida called Christmas? I’ve learned all kinds of things since I began reading and reviewing the Romancing America titles from Barbour. Apparently the Post Office in Christmas sees a lot of activity coming up to December 25 as people come from miles around to have their seasonal mail postmarked “Christmas.” This practice is central to each novella in Postmark: Christmas.
Christmas, Florida, is also home to “Swampy,” the world’s largest gator, who is the feature attraction at Jungle Adventures Nature Animal Park. This park is also featured in the novellas.
For this Canadian girl, watching the lengths a small Florida town goes to to create a Christmas wonderland full of wintery charm was entertaining. The stories all overlapped in the same holiday year, with the same carnival atmosphere. Each story cameoed some of the other characters, too, which is always fun.
The first story is “Home for Christmas” by Paige Winship Dooly. Stella has been roaming the USA for years in an RV, planning all kinds of events and pulling them off before heading to the next gig. She’s been contracted to set up a winter carnival which will run between Thanksgiving and Christmas in Christmas, Florida, only this time, she doesn’t have a “next job” to go to. That doesn’t mean she should settle down here though, does it? She’s working with single dad Brick, and loving being part of his little boy’s life. Her RV is also parked at Brick’s mom’s rural property. This story sets the stage of the event that all of the other novella characters participate in as well.
Next we have “Merry Christmas, With Love” by Darlene Franklin. Randi is a war widow raising a teenage son in Christmas. For years she’s participated in a program to send cards to servicemen and women overseas, in some cases even carrying on a pen pal relationship. But when she discovers Major Troy Brennan has arrived in town to search out the mystery correspondent, she freezes. She can’t allow anyone into her life while she’s fighting to hold her husband’s memory and her son’s behavior in check. But Randi can’t quit her volunteer work at the Post Office–her mother is the postmistress after all–and Troy isn’t about to give up his search. Only problem is, he hasn’t found his mystery woman, and he’s falling in love with Randi.
Kathleen Kovach wrote the third novella, “A Blessed Angel Came.” Gabi works at Jungle Adventures Nature Animal Park. She’s rather shy and has had a crush on another worker for quite some time. When her boss assigns employees to wear full costumes to promote the park at the festival, Gabi finds that she’s free to become someone else and pursues her crush. But David Levine has been hired as a photographer for the event, and he seems to be everywhere she wants to go. David, for his part, has figured out Gabi’s identity and is gently wooing her to his side.
“You’re a Charmer, Mr. Grinch,” by Paula Moldenhauer, is the story of Christmas’s postmistress (and Randi’s mother), Edie Hathaway. For many years retired police officer Rick Stanton, who plays the Grinch for Christmas’s festivities, has been trying to get Edie’s attention. Everyone in town knows, it seems, to Edie’s everlasting embarrassment, and not only knows it, but seems to be on Rick’s side. When Rick takes charge when Edie’s vehicle breaks down, she begins to see the man behind the charming facade. But there are still plenty of issues between this couple. Maybe the Grinch will steal their joy, after all.
All around, a fun collection of Christmas stories with a southern flair.
This book follows four coupled in the town of Christmas, Florida during the Christmas holiday. We start with Stella who is a party planner and is hired to plan the Christmas festival. Will she stick around and find love as well? The next story deals with Randi who sends Christmas cards to soldiers. When one of those soldiers come to find her will it be her happy ever after? Gabi is the 3rd story and she is a shy young lady who finds her wings and maybe love. The 4th and final story deals with Edie the postmistress. She puts all her energy into her work yet a man who has shown her interest will not back down and maybe she will find love as well.
This book was a little disappointing. As a lot of the Romancing America books work there was a common area and sub storyline that all four stories worked off of but the way they tied together was weak.
What I liked: Of the four ladies I liked Gabi the best. I also felt the story had the most depth and being a short story the plot moved along fast but it still was enjoyable. I also enjoyed Edie’s story. She had to let go of some things that happened when she was younger and she had to trust God and not rely on herself and I really liked that message.
What I did not like: The first two stories where okay. I felt Stella fell in love way to fast and it just seemed rushed. The idea behind Randi’s story was interesting but again it felt rushed and there where points where I just wished the story could slow down and explain things more. I also felt that even though the four stories over lapped they did not feel like they fit. Something happened in the 4th story that I thought could have been mentioned in the 2nd story and it was not and felt like the stories where just not fitting together right.
Over all this book was okay not one I would tell others to read and did not live up to my Romancing America expectations I have grown to expect from these books. I still gave it three stars because it was not hard to read and I liked the characters I was just disappointed in how they tied together and the lack of depth at times.
These are four cute contemporary love stories about life in Christmas, Florida! Home for Christmas is about Stella, an event planner who comes to Christmas, FL to organize their Christmas festival. She's hired by Brick, a local contractor, and as he helps her with the planning, they start to fall for each other. Brick's family also make her feel welcome and she wonders if it's time to give up her life on the road and put down roots. Will Brick give her a chance or protect himself before she leaves for good?
Merry Christmas, With Love focuses on Randi, a war widow with a rebellious teenage son. She's involved in her church ministry of sending cards to soldiers overseas and she and a soldier have been corresponding back and forth. But when he shows up in Christmas, she doesn't want him to know who she is. Will she ever be ready to risk her heart again?
A Blessed Angel Came is the story of Gabi, a shy store clerk who lets out her zany side when she dresses up as a reindeer for the Christmas festival. When her little sister was seriously injured in a car accident years ago caused by a drunk driver and confined to a wheelchair, she put her first and her life on hold. Photographer David Levine arrives in town for some time off and donates his time to help out at the festival. She notices his tender care of a child in a wheelchair, but little does she know about his rebellious teen years. Could she ever get past it to see the changed man he's become?
You're a Charmer, Mr. Grinch tells the story of Randi's mother Edie, the postmaster of Christmas, FL. Rick, a retired police officer who dons a Grinch costume to promote the festival, has been trying to get her attention for years. She doesn't trust charming men, however, after what she went through with her husband. Will Edie learn to trust and open her heart before his patience runs out?
These were all fun light reads centered around a Christmas festival. Some of the characters appear in other stories and it's fun to see the... see the rest here: http://shopgirl152ny.blogspot.com/201...
This is another novella collection from the Romancing America series which usually includes 4 novellas that all are in the same setting and have some character connection between them. This set takes place in Christmas Florida which loves all things Christmas. It is focused on the two weeks before Christmas when their annual Christmas Festival takes place. Each novella is a quick, sweet Christian romance full of Christmas spirit and cheer. My particular favorite was A Blessed Angel Came. Gabi is very much a shy introvert whose main goal in life is to take care of her baby sister who was seriously injured in a car crash caused by a drunken driver. Jerica is now in a wheelchair and has speech problems due to a brain injury. Gabi's parents were killed in the same accident. David has a past that involves a DUI in which he caused a death. As the two connect, they both find their way to forgiveness and hope.
FAVORITE QUOTES: Home for Christmas by Paige Winship Dooly - "She had God in her life but hadn't given God control of her life."
Merry Christmas, With Love by Darlene Franklin - "Thanks to both of you, I believe God is directing my steps again."
A Blessed Angel Came ny Kathleen E. Kovach - "Lord, please forgive me for refusing to listen. For using my own pain to cause pain in someone else. Help me to channel my feelings in a productive way."
You're A Charmer, Mr. Grinch - "But what they say doesn't matter. What counts is what God says and what you believe yourself."
A wonderful book of Christmas romances, I enjoyed this one very much! In the first story event planner, Stella, drives into Christmas, FL in an RV and while trying to turn around backs into sand and gets stuck. Handsome Brick just happens to be there to pull her out. He happens to be the person Stella is there to see. He invites her to hook up the RV at his house which she does and the rest is a delightful tale of romance.
Next comes Randi who has been mailing Christmas cards to soldiers for years and it just happens one of those soldiers fell in love with her via their cards and letters and has come to Christmas to find and marry her! This was a great story with great characters, not just a light romance but deals with Randi's teenage sons trouble.
The next is about Gabi and David, I have to say this was my least favorite, it didn't draw me into it and I had a hard time finishing it.
The last one was sweet, postmistress Edie is very protective of her heart, she won't let any man get close to her. Rick has loved her for a long time and is determined to get close to her. The way he pursues her is charming. I loved the way this one ended.
This book gets 4 out of 5 stars, if you like light romance this one is for you.
I received an ecopy of this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a four in one book with four stories that are connected by the town of Christmas, Florida. Each author writes a unique story that takes place in the town. Each story is different and each author writes in her own style.
I liked the individual stories and found each one to be entertaining. I thought they all had just enough romance to keep you reading. I liked how the characters interacted and their conversations flowed well. None of the stories were boring and each one could really stand on its own as an easy to read romance.
I gave this book 5/5 stars. I liked how the stories were all centered on the post office in town. I liked that the stories were each different yet all were connected. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun romance book that is also a quick read.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
I just love Christmas novels, but this set is not just about Christmas, the holiday, it's about the town of Christmas, Florida.
I loved each of the novellas. They are what I consider "sweet" stories that make you feel uplifted all the way through. I enjoyed the love connections made by each set of characters.
Enjoy a bubble-bath, a drink (of your choosing), and grab this book. You'll forget whatever it is that's outside your door--at least until the water gets cold. :-)
***This book was provided to me free by the author/publisher for the purpose of review. The above is my honest opinion.***
