This had a few good moments, but honestly it felt like it dragged on and on, especially for being such a short book. A few good, spoiler-y, moments below:

I pointed to a cat sitting very proudly near the very front of the group. "Don't tell me that's Remington's great, great, etc. grandfather, as well."
Liza raised a sculpted brow. "Um, noooo. That's Remington."
I laughed, but quickly stopped when I noticed she hadn't even cracked a smile. I stabbed my finger at the date written below the photo. "Remington is not over three hundred years old! And since when was there photography in the 17th century?"
"Yeah, uh, we're witches…"
"Remington!" I yelled, and then jumped when he immediately hopped onto my lap. I studied the cat and then the picture, both were black Persians and nearly indistinguishable. "Remington is just a baby. This cat," I touched the image in triumph, "is obviously much older."
Liza was shaking her head. "I'm telling you, that's Remy. I've known him my whole life and it seems as if he reaches the age at which a normal cat would cross over, and then reverts to a kitten. It happened about eight or nine months ago, so I know it's true."
I narrowed my eyes at my familiar. "So, what? You're some feline version of the Phoenix?"
"Meow," he agreed.
"Well, I wasn't expecting that," I admitted.
"Believe me, regenerating felines is not the weirdest thing you're going to discover in Mystic," Liza assures me.
"Now, that I believe."

"I wish I had a wand like Harry Potter," I grumbled as the slim piece of metal slipped from the lock I was coaxing open for the tenth time. My breaking and entering skills had never been stellar, but geez, I'd been at it for nearly half an hour already and we weren't any closer to gaining entrance.
"Witches don't actually carry wands," Liza said. "That's movie stuff."
"Yeah? Well I thought witches in general were 'movie stuff' until I met you guys. So, I think wishing for a wand isn't that far-fetched."
"Less wishing, more lock-picking," Dominic urged.
"Look who's anxious to be a felon," Liza teased.
"Will you two stop talking - I think I've got this. Open sesame." The dead bolt clicked and the back door swung open.
Liza quickly took her crystal ball and located the alarm panel. A few urgent commands and a picture of Sharon punching in the code appeared.
"You got all the cool powers," I complained.
Liza grinned. "And don't you forget it."
With the threat of imminent arrest no longer a concern, we split off into separate areas of the house to look for any clues. Most of the rooms were sterile, looking more like a model home than a real one. The kitchen was practically empty. There wasn't even any food in the cabinets and nothing more than a bottle of wine and some cheese in the fridge.
The pantry shelves were nearly as bare, aside from an enormous spice rack. I studied the bottles, noting most of them were herbs only used for casting spells. Remembering how lethargic we'd all been, I went back out into the kitchen and opened the bare freezer. Inside the ice dispenser I found what I'd feared - pictures of each member of the reigning covens of Mystic frozen in ice.
"It's old-school, but effective," Liza commented as she joined me.
"Should we take them with us? There must be a reversal spell we can cast, right?"
"A warm bubble bath should do the trick," she agreed.
An image of Liza, Dominic, Ruth, and the rest of the witches currently bound relaxing in a shared bubble bath flitted through my mind.
"Oh, you mean these," I said, holding up the cubes. "For a second I thought I'd have to see Clara naked."
Liza laughed. "Even I don't want to see my grandma naked…and now I can't help picturing it."
"Misery loves company."

~

"My god, she shot Liza!"
Dominic knelt beside us looking for the wound. "I think she'll be okay. It looks like it just grazed her. Head wounds bleed like a bitch though."
"Nice analogy, Shakespeare."
"Not now," he said through gritted teeth.
"Sorry, you know I get sarcastic in stressful situations."
He nodded once in acceptance of my apology. "Do you have anything we can use as a bandage?"
Remington trotted over with a thong panty liner between his teeth. Dominic smiled at me before laughing. "This definitely qualifies as poetic."
"My own laughter was cut short when Willow yelled, "I need a little help over here."
I'd nearly forgotten we weren't alone. I let Dominic tend to Liza and went to see what other catastrophe awaited us. Willow knelt over her mother's lifeless body. "Is she…?"
"No, she's breathing. I don't know what's wrong with her. I think she hit her head when I tackled her."
Sharon was out cold, but it didn't look like she was bleeding. Dominic passed us, carrying Liza in his arms. "I'll put her in the plane and be right back."
I kept waiting for someone to notice us, or for the police to show up because of the gunshot, but nobody came. Within minutes our patients were strapped in and Dominic was waiting for clearance to take off. The ebbing of my adrenaline exacerbated my motion sickness and the cabin filled with the sound of my retching as we hit turbulence over the Sierra Nevadas.
Liza chose a particularly mortifying moment to wake up and said loudly, "Did you just fart?"
I emptied what was left from my in-flight meal and glared at her. I was never flying again. Especially with Dominic. Every time I did, some humiliating tidbit I'd rather keep quiet was revealed. What guy wanted to date a flatulent virgin?
Liza giggled, and then grimaced. Bringing her hand up to her head, she pulled off the panty liner. "Great, now my head is on the rag?"
"It's a day for humiliation," I agreed.

Rory has ended up in a town called Mystic, Oregon, become a new business owner and has learned that she is a witch from a long line of witches. What's next? She has to establish her own coven, and soon.

Not really sure of all this magic stuff, she's still trying to figure it all out. Unfocused, and unbalanced this quirky town needs her help and fast. What is she going to do?

With the help of a really "hot" looking chef and a new friend, she just might have what it takes to take care of the town and herself. Rory has to really put herself out there and she is slowly but surely coming into her own. I'm really starting to like this character. She has "moxy" and she's strong. I love strong women.

Heidi Hall has taken the story of Rory Devereaux to another level and given the readers another glimpse into the rest of the story. So far, so good. This is another trilogy, so I will withhold my final commentary on the whole thing until the end. As you know, I have not had much luck with trilogies, but I like what I am reading at this point.

I still enjoyed this book as well. Sometimes the second book leaves me as ehhh. Started the 3rd book.
These books are light hearted, quick reads. Great for those late nights that you can't sleep but way to tired to think.

Gah, I hate when a book feels like it is in the middle of a story and leaves you feeling like you have to buy the next one to find out what happens. It was well written but you cant read it without reading all the series.

This book definitely gets my attention. The characters feel more alive in the second part of the story than they did in the first part. I enjoyed the dialog between the characters. Things seem to be moving in the right direction despite all the drama.
