A quick reference guide of 83 essential oils. The majority of oils I was familiar. The author added a few I did not know. The entries are one, to two pages long with a very brief introduction regarding origin, extraction methods, part used for the oil, Scientific Name, and simple legends, or myths associated with each plant, and a planetary designation. Following are description of oil aromas, chemical constituents, medical properties, and their effect upon the mind and body, along with precautions of use. Lastly, potential blends for the essential oil, but not recipes.
I never knew that Petitgrain was orange leaf, or that Neroli is orange flower. I must remember that Melissa is Lemon Balm, and Lemon Verbena is a shrub. The Eucalyptus chapter mentioned several varieties that had unique scents. That, and menthol, are two of my favorite scents of all. Niaouli sounds like a delightful new one to try; substitute for Cajuput, and Eucalyptus. Palmarosa I have seen in the story but had no idea how it would smell; sweet floral, hint of rose.
This one is a keeper excellent reference, some great visuals in the back of book . This book describes the characteristics of essential oils and the various ways they can help to enhance the Mind and Body. Looking at individual oils its list : Features, History and Myth, Chemical Constituents, Properties, Precautions, Effects on Skin. Great starter book.
