Provides the heroic tales of a space-traveling genius who is determined to bring his abducted parents and their friends back to Retroville while also teaching the evil Yokian aliens a lesson they won't soon forget. Original.
Best-selling author, Marc Cerasini has spent time on the New York Times and USA Today best-seller's lists. His writing spans from children's picture books and young adult novels to adult mystery and military nonfiction. Along the way, he's managed to ghostwrite for Tom Clancy.
This book is an adaptation of the movie Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, which I do remember watching as a kid.
In this story, all the adults of Retroland have been kidnapped by aliens so it's up to Jimmy and his friends to rescue them.
This was a fun, fast-paced, and nostalgic story.
---------------------------------------------- Part of a personal challenge to read all of my boyfriend's and his sister's childhood books before we donate and give them away.
Jimmy: (manning the cash register) A Double McSpanky with fries and a Flurp. That'll be 6.53. (takes the customer's money and gives him change) And 3.47's your change! Skeet: (sighs) Dude, you're supposed to push the buttons with the pictures of food on 'em. Jimmy: Don't need to, Skeet: I memorized the prices, and did the tax and change in my head! Skeet: Oh, okay, Mister Magic Man - I also did not hear you say "Big McThankies from McSpanky's" to the customer! Jimmy: Well, frankly, it struck me as... clichéd. What do you think about this? "Don't let our food be denied you - put our polyunsaturated fats and triglycerides inside you!" Skeet: (manning the cash register) Picture of money, picture of money... ha! Gotcha! (presses the money button) Big McThankies from McSpanky's! Heh, heh. (to Jimmy, pointing to an open packet of salt on the ground) Hey, dude! You missed a spot. Jimmy: I got it. (Skeet picks up the packet) Just a little sodium chloride. Skeet: Actually, dude, it's salt. Jimmy: That's what I said! Sodium chloride.
If there is any evidence of an almighty, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent god, this is it. Romance, Action, Adventure, Erotic, Fantasy, Science, Therapy, Gay/Lesbian, Challenging, and empowering; if you liked all those words you will love this read. It is a "goodread".
The sex scenes go on too long in my opinion though.

I think the only enjoyment I got from this was nostalgia. Taken on it's own it's not a very good story. It's not original or detailed enough to be good science fiction, it's not funny enough to be a good comedy, and it's not serious enough to be a scary/thriller story. It doesn't do any one thing well and just kind of hopes it threw enough genres and cliches together to be good.
