Kevin Johnson AKA "K" is a streetwise hustler from Wyandanch NY. Mattie is a half Puerto Rican half Haitian beauty that gets it how she lives. After living in Virginia together, life tears them apart on I-95 north at the hands of a crooked cop. They are reunited at a strip club in Long Island at which time chicks get cut and guns go BANG! Not long after, a move to Allentown PA with his cohort Darkside proves to be very, very profitable. What happens when forgiveness of past transgressions is not in the equation? Sex, lies, deceit, and new relationships. The first in a Trilogy from the author of LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO and I WON'T TELL YOUR SECRETS part 1 and 2 delivers another winner. Based on a true story. Kelvin F Jackson (1969- )was raised in Long Island NY. After graduating in 1987 he attended SUNY in FARMINDALE.His bizzare world as seen through his eyes is brilliantly portrayed in his books. He currently travels the United States mentoring to troubled youth and inspiring through his experiences.
In the first installment of It Was All A Dream, Kelvin F. Jackson, introduces us to Kevin Johnson, a street hustler from Wyandanch, NY, and his ride or die chick, Mattie. Kevin and Mattie decide to leave the fast life of New York and move to a small, country town in Martinsville, VA, until a run-in with the law changes the course of their lives forever. Now separated, Kevin and Mattie must now navigate the cruel streets alone - until a chance encounter in New York leads them back to one another. Reunited once more, will lies and deceit destroy their bond or can the couple reconcile?
Sex, drugs and deceit are the backdrop of this emotionally gripping novel. Although many of the lifestyles depicted in the story were foreign to me, the author makes a wise decision to define some of the street vernacular. It would have been more effective to consistently use this choice as there were many unfamiliar terms that I could not differentiate from editing flaws. It is important to note that, although there were a few editing flaws, they did not detract from the story.
Based on a true story, It Was All A Dream, is ultimately a heartfelt story of love, loss, dreams and setbacks. While the novel depicts the drug-infested hood, it also depicts individuals trying to do the right thing and make the most of an oftentimes unfair life. I applaud Jackson for giving a balanced account of life on the streets.
The book reels you in from the first page and keeps you yearning for what happens next. Kevin, the main character shows how to turn big dreams into reality. He shows that there is a time to get out of the drug games and go legal. He also show that behind every man there is a good woman that will always have his back. There were some grammar issues but all in all the story line was very interesting. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks Kelvin for the chance to read this interesting story
Excellent... this book as did the parts 2 & 3 had my mouth hung open many times, yelling at the book. He is a excellent writer and will read more of his books.
This just wasn't for me. The story didn't really do anything for me. I couldn't seem to connect with any of the characters. Too many editing issues. I'm not going to read the next two in this trilogy.
I really enjoyed this book! I dug the character K from the very beginning. I loved how it seemed to be focused on Mattie in the beginning and how it slowly shifted to K, who I more enjoyed learning more about. There was realism in the characters and story line and I appreciate that it wasn't so far fetched that every thing went completely in the main characters favor. It definitely doesn't happen like that in real life so a book, although fiction, should have that realistic edge to it. I was definitely glued to my Kindle until the wee hours of the morning waiting to see what was going to happen next! I am about to purchase the other two installments as I am sure they will be an excellent read! (And kudos to the author for unknowingly naming his sister Tamisha because That's my name! Lol)
