In the middle of the night, when Chief Broccin of Raptor finds his daughter Elyne in the bailey atop a splendidly naked and wet Graemme of Clibrick, he declares they will marry.
If they do not, Graemme will forfeit part of his secret treasures.
Elyne hesitates. It was an easy decision for Graemme. He vows they will wed two months from that day.
He arrives on time, but Elyne has fled.
Finding her is easy for the determined Scotsman; she has finally met her match. When she goes head-to-head with Graemme, he checkmates her every move!
After our daughters were married and moved away, my husband and I retired. It didn't take long for the "empty nest" syndrome to strike. It took much longer before we did something about it, though. Fifteen years! We bought a little long-coat Chihuahua who became the terror of the neighborhood - even on a leash. When he was three years old and not even attmpting to be friendly with anyone other than my husband and me, we got him a companion. A tri-colored Papillon named Konner. He's a sweetheart and kisses everyone.
One day, our youngest grandson whispered in my ear, "Does Pop-Pop really think Jammie (the Chihuahua) is his baby?" I had to explain about us missing someone to take care of, so we cuddled the dogs when our grandchildren weren't around. After a big hug and kiss, he understood we needed someone or something to cuddle.
I love writing. One night, I dreamt that I couldn't anymore. You know what came to mind when I opened my eyes? I wouldn't be able to breathe life into the characters demanding their stories.
I think that's a little nutty, don't you? My characters become real to me, and when I'm writing, they tell me what they want to do, how they want to feel, what they will and will not allow. Cheez! Talk about bossy!
This author is quickly becoming one of my favorties, ranked up there with Julie Garwood, JR Ward and Lara Adrian. All of the stories have captivated and sucked me in to the Highlands and their way of life. The way Sophia Johnson has weaved all the Raptor Castle books together so seamlessly makes me love the series as a whole.
This book was about Elyne, sister of Ranald, and Graemme, brother of Magnus. Elyne is feisty, sassy and independent throughout the whole book, not letting Graemme get away with anything, however her tender side comes through when Graemme needs her the most. Elyne wasn't one of my favorite characters because throughout the whole book she denies her feelings for Graemme, doesn't want to be married, nor does she do anything that's asked of her. Even when Graemme begins to soften to her she continues to "one up" him. Graemme was a little softer than the other Highlanders in previous books, but then again, you can't have two dominate and headstrong people because then the book would get nowhere.
I encourage anyone that loves historical romance books to run out and give this series a try, you won't be disappointed. I will say that these books need to be read in the correct order starting out with Forbidden. So far there's four books in the series and I'm anxiously waiting for the fifth book to come out.
I liked this story but something is missing between the main characters. A lot of loose ends, things that never were said and without it, those two never could have been together. Only 4 stars because of that.
