Ashley Dawson has a gift—she can communicate with spirits. Her life profoundly changes when she is urged and guided, by a spirit, to the house of Nathaniel Marshall—a man who doesn’t believe Ashley’s bizarre accusations and makes no attempt to hide it.
When Nathaniel discovers a cunning man who disappears as quickly as he appears is stalking Ashley, his fear for her safety consumes him. Their terror is taken to a new level when several murders throughout the city surface.
Aris Whittier is a romance writer. She writes suspense, contemporary, and commercial woman’s fiction. Her debut novel, Fatal Embrace is a romantic suspense that was featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine as a Red-Hot Read. Foolish Notions is a contemporary romance that has just a touch a mystery too. Across Eternity is a beautiful love story that transcends time. Visit Aris Whittier at: www.awhittier.blogspot.com or www.facebook.com/ArisWhittier
Aris has also written non-fiction as well. The Truth About Being A Bass Fisherman’s Wife was featured in many fishing magazines and sold in Bass Pro Shops. It was rated one of the top Christmas gifts for the outdoors mans for under twenty bucks.
Nathaniel sure does "fall in love" quickly despite not believing Ashley's ghost seeing abilities. With a few context clues it was easy to figure out who the stalker was after the detective changed the victim. This book was a quick read if it can keep your interest peaked. I found myself easily distracted so it took me longer than it should have. That's how you can tell a great book from an okay book. With a great book nothing can tear your eye's from the page.
She had me at ghost! Anything with a ghost in it has my vote. While this story was not the 5 stars that "Across Eternity" was, it was still a good, fun, suspenseful story.
Great descriptions and great character development. I loved Ashley (of course, that's my daughters name so I am partial to it). She was a good strong female character but still being sweet and not over baring. I did not however like Nathaniel. I never did like him all through the book. I know he had issues, skeletons in the closet from his past etc. but I still just couldn't make myself like him. One of my favorite parts in the book was Voodoo, the ghost cat! Ha! I love it. I have never read a story with a ghost cat. And of course Ashley can see him and talk to him.
Here's a couple good quotes -
"My dear friend gives me a beautiful miniature rose every year for Christmas, and it promptly dies two to three weeks after I place it on my windowsill." "And yet she still gives you one each year?" he asked curiously. "Sadly, yes. It has now become a game - to see how long I can keep it alive."
"Nathaniel found it strange that she didn't sound like some wild, thoughtless, lunatic. But then again, how did he know what a wild, thoughtless, lunatic even sounded like? Perhaps all he was dealing with was an inept woman who was nothing more than senseless. Most women he knew fit that bill." ~ Now you see why I didn't like him? Need I say more?
This story had a great ending! I would give the ending a 5 stars! The only reason for the 4 stars was because the bickering back and forth got kinda long. Other than that I though it was a great read with a nice mystery and lots of suspense. I can't wait to read "Fatal Embrace". * There is some swearing and a few steamy sex scenes.
Ashley Dawson is a famous author, who has the uncanny ability to see spirits. For all of her life, Ashley has been dealing with the spirit world, but has always kept her secret close to her heart. But then she meets a ghost named Sara, who desperately wants Ashley’s help. Ashley decides to help the troubled spirit, going on a quest to find a particular house and more importantly, the man who owns it. But Ashley isn’t prepared for the fluttering of her heart when she meets Nathaniel Marshall, the owner of the magnificent home. Nor is Ashley prepared for the battle of wills to come. As Nathaniel begins to trust her, Ashley finds herself falling fast for the charming architect. But danger is lurking ever so closely as a crazed fan begins to stalk his favorite author, testing Ashley and Nathaniel’s new found love. This charming love story was a delight to read. From the first page, I was hooked. Ashley Dawson drew me in with her spiritual connections and her stubborn quest to help Nathaniel find peace after losing his wife in such a tragic fashion. The writing flowed smoothly chapter after chapter. Nathaniel was equally captivating – a true lady’s man. And of course, the delightful Sarah was ever so kind to share her wonderful husband. Aris Whittier has written a captivating tale. SECRETS has just the right amount of ingredients – romance, paranormal and a dash of thrill – all equaling a delicious read! I look forward to reading more novels by this talented author.
Aris Whittier’s novel, Secrets, is a fast-paced mystery with interesting characters and intriguing plots that easily maintain the reader’s attention. Several twists throughout the novel keep the audience guessing; my favorite coming at the very end. Whittier cost me a late night as I found the novel next to impossible to put down. Like Ashley, the reader finds him/herself sucked into Nathaniel’s world wanting to understand his dark past while rooting for him to overcome it.
As with her debut novel, Fatal Embrace, Whittier outsmarted me. I was convinced that this time I knew who was behind everything. Alas, I was wrong — again! I’m definitely hoping for another chance to match wits with the author. Maybe the third time will be the charm.
Those who liked Whittier’s first novel will be pleased to hear that Michael Carven makes a cameo appearance in Secrets. While I enjoyed the mystery and even the main characters, I was disappointed with the increase of explicit and unnecessary sex scenes in this novel in comparison to Fatal Embrace. The reader should also be prepared for some vulgar language.
I greatly enjoyed this book... it was intriguing, mysterious, and emotional - everything a good book should be. The story line isn't one that's been done over and over, which is quite refreshing. My one complaint is the spelling errors. You can't have a book about an author with multiple spelling errors... in some portions of the book the error was so severe it was a different word that completely changed the sentence. As much as I enjoyed the book, loved it even - the error count was high enough to disappoint me.
Ashley sees ghosts. She's used to it, even tries to help them most of the time. Her newest spirit sends her on a mission to help her widowed husband - he's tough to crack, and a magnet for trouble. When his ex wife's spirit tells Ashley he needs help, he needs saving - she didn't think it'd be such a literal statement.
I wouldn't consider this a romance story, but a damn good mystery that unravels slowly as Ashley and nathaniel learn to trust, love and communicate. The climax coming when the killer is revealed and why. Amazing how the author brings the two main characters together, building the story at a steady pace until the killer takes his revenge. Nathaniel learning truths as the story unfold. Worth the read.Strong characters, good plot and story.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book has a great storyline and well developed characters. You are engaged from the first page until the last. Though this is a book about communicating with ghost it does not just circulate on that one aspect. I would recommend this to anyone who likes the paranormal romance genre. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Totally loved this story!!! (proofreader needs fired, though.) I fell in love with (and hurt for) Nathaniel. Ashley was perfect for him and he perfect for her. Start to finish this book had me enthralled. I rarely read books a second time, but might make an exception for this one!
Love this book! It made me cry laugh and it was so intense I felt like I was living the characters life. Is goin to the top of one of my favorites for sure:) highly recommend
Amazing story!! Very well written (minus a few grammatical errors). The story just sucks you in and immediately you feel a connection to the main characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as the secrets were uncovered you feel for everyone involved. I loved the fact that Sarah thanked Nate by helping him heal. I would love a cat like voodoo.
