When Deatri was six years old, her mother was told that because of Deatri's dyslexia, she'd probably never learn how to read. At that time, it was recommended Deatri partake in a specialized reading curriculum. Unbeknownst to Deatri's parents, this additional help their daughter would need, from a teacher, was actually Deatri being taken out of reading class to sit in the hallway with a tape recorder. When Deatri entered the fourth grade at a different school, her parents were terrified to learn their daughter couldn't read. For years, she'd been reciting the bedtime stories to her mother from memory instead of actually reading the written words from the pages.

My have times changed! In 1999, Deatri was a technical writer at a telecommunications company with dreams of joining the publishing world as a content editor and author. Mind made up, she returned to school and soon started as an editorial intern at Third World Press, Inc., one of the oldest independent, African-American owned publishing houses in the world. Shortly thereafter, her skills were recognized, and she became a more permanent fixture at Third World Press, Inc. Though Deatri believes in Third World Press's mission, fiction is her true love, so in 2004 she began focusing her editing skills on fiction.

Dozens of manuscripts later, she still hasn't figured out that she wasn't supposed to learn how to read. February 2006, the second half of Deatri's dream came true with the release of her debut novel Caught Up. In 2008, Deatri won the coveted Emma Award for Best Steamy Romance of the year with her title: Whisper Something Sweet. Currently, she is reading, editing, conducting writing workshops, and writing her next novels.

BRIEF SUMMARY
Sweetie aka Monica caught her fiancé in bed with another woman. Since that day she has been celibate with the pleasure of herself. But Gabriel tempts her to break all her rules. Sweetie has been communicating with Gabriel at work over the phone. Sweetie doesn't think much of her full figured appearance after what her ex fiancé did to her. But Gabriel decides one day to show up because he wants more and decided to take matters into his own hands and visit Sweetie at her office.

THOUGHTS
The moment Shelia Goss posted this book in my FB group I immediately came over to post my review. This is still one of my favorite books. I wanted this book for so long to be in ebook format and it's finally here thank you, Deatri King-Bey.

When I originally read this book 2 years ago, I fell in love with Sweetie's character. I liked that Sweetie had a cooperate position, but still had real issues that most women go through everyday. Though she was strong on the outside, what her fiancé did really affected her. Gabriel, wow, I thought he was just so fine, sexy and demanding when he finally met Sweetie. Even though Sweetie did a switch-a-rue on him in the beginning, because she thought he wouldn't love her physical appearance. What the author did by having both characters communicate by phone for sometime first definitely added to the story's appeal. The secondary characters were just as nice. I remember Tess and James’s story line as well; their story was just as cute within the story but did not detract from Sweetie and Gabriel's story.

I have to say, I love the original cover, but I love this one as well.

Storyline: GOOD
Intimacy: VERY GOOD
Enjoyment: GOOD

Deliciously Sweet Treat

In "Whisper Something Sweet", Mrs. Deatri King-Bey has spun a highly erotic romance for our reading pleasure. This is the third novel I've read by Mrs. King-Bey, and although it's not my favorite, it was still an enjoyable read. "Whisper Something Sweet" is definitely a grab your attention mixture of romance, suspense, some intense & steamy love scenes, not too mention the many real life issues thrown in the mix such as physical abuse, drug dealing, absentee father, overbearing mothers, etc... The characters are well developed and quite memorable. The storyline flows smoothly. And with all the drama in this novel you couldn't possibly get bored. You will find yourself on one heck of an entertaining ride! It will have you LOL, shedding a few tears and then saying, Oh, My..., throughout. This novel gives you not one but two, whirlwind romances. Gabriel and Sweetie's fast-paced love affair kept the pages sizzlin' and then add the fire between Tess and James, it's a miracle the book didn't burst in to flames with all the fiery passion flowing throughout. Gabriel and Sweetie had a very special bond, I enjoyed their relationship. And I love the fact that Mrs. King-Bey made Sweetie a "plus-size" woman, with loads of confidence, charm, class and independence. Gabriel was definitely a handsome, protective, want-to-take charge, but willing to let his lady lead, got it goin'on kind of guy. "Whisper Something Sweet" was a deliciously sweet read!

I am a hopeless romantic and this book satisfied my need to live vicariously through the love of others. The characters Sweetie and Tess both have experienced pain, both physical and emotional but as the saying goes good things come to those who wait. Both women find exactly what they are looking for in the end. This reads a little like a fairytale but I enjoy that type of read from time to time. If you enjoy drama and happy endings this is the book for you. I would highly recommend this book and author to others. Great job Deatri.

Very good read

Very good read

Monica, aka Sweetie, it's a very strong woman. She's vulnerable too. Gabriel is instantly taken with Sweetie. This story has laugh out loud moments...Monica's mom is a mess. There are some all heck no moments. There's tears. Most importantly there's love. A recommend read. well done Ms King-Bey.

Although there were grammatical errors present in this book, I really enjoyed it. Sweetie is a courageous, successful, and beautiful black woman. As a volumptuous woman myself I definitely relate to her. She is an inspiring and down to earth character.
