RT Book Reviews Top Pick - "Stock up on ice cubes because this is definitely one sizzling debut. Readers will be hooked from the first sentence- on the book and on Nic! As rich as a white chocolate cheesecake, Cayne's entrance into the suspense genre is invigorating, explosive and simply intoxicating."
Kristine Cayne is fascinated by the mysteries of human psychology—twisted secrets, deep-seated beliefs, out-of-control desires. Add in high-stakes scenarios and real-world villains, and you have a story worth writing, and reading.
The heroes and heroines of her Deadly Vices series, beginning with Deadly Obsession, are pitted against each other by their radically opposing life experiences. By overcoming their differences and finding common ground, they triumph over their enemies and find true happiness in each other’s arms.
Today she lives in the Pacific Northwest, thriving on the mix of cultures, languages, religions and ideologies. When she’s not writing, she’s people-watching, imagining entire life stories, and inventing all sorts of danger for the unsuspecting heroes and heroines who cross her path.
What do you get when you take a gorgeous, sexy, Oscar winning actor, add in screaming, breast flashing, psychotic fans, dangerous, hunky bodyguards, stalkers, and an eccentric, obsessively protective agent? You get a typical day in the life of playboy movie star, Nic “The Lover” Lamoureux. But when you toss widowed mom, Lauren James, and her adorable son, Jason, into the mix you get Deadly Obsession, a romantic, exciting, and very hot story.
Deadly Obsession is the first book in Kristine Cayne's Deadly Vices series and my first taste of this author's writing. While there are some predictable events and a couple of moments when I had wished things were moving a little quicker - because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next, overall the story is easy to follow, the writing flowing at a comfortable pace. Our hero and heroine are, despite Nic’s over the top stardom, down to earth people who want the same thing we all want out of life – happiness. They have their flaws, that's for sure, but it was important enough to them to work around each other’s imperfections so they could be together, and that was fun to watch. Kaden, Rémi, Jake and Rachel made a great supporting cast of characters, all worthy of their own story – and I hope they get them because I'm truly looking forward to reading more in this series.
The bottom line – I laughed, I cried, I sighed and was left wanting to read more. If you're looking for a new voice in romantic suspense, and a story with something a little different, I'd recommend picking up Deadly Obsession and giving this author a try. I'm sure you'll be pleased that you did.
My thanks to Kristine Cayne for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cover: I like and it fits. Rating NC-17 for the sexiness of it all. Overall: Pretty Good Characters: Interesting Plot: In some ways predicable but in others satisfyingly not. Page Turner: Yes. Series Cont.? Yes, I would. Recommend Yes. Book Boyfriend: Nic of course
SUMMARY (50 word or less)
As much as this book was somewhat predicable, I found myself wanting to read even after I had to put it done for mundane things like life. Despite its predictability, I was still surprise by the author’s direction at times which kept things fresh. The story was very sexy too.
I got this book for free, in exchange of an honest review, from the group Making Connections. Get your copy here
My Thoughts: the love scenes between Nic and "Lorna" were hot and sweet at the same time but the instant love was a problem for me. I could understand Lauren being attracted because Nic was a movie star but Nic came as a wannabe shifter eager to claim his mate. the humor kept the story entertaining and all the supporting characters were good. the book was the exact perfect length and the ending was done perfectly, however, like many readers I guessed the identity of the stalker from the very first page. how Nic comes to realize how selfish he was being about his secret and his unfair treatment of Rachel I also liked Lauren's reaction when Nic was trying to seduce Vivian.
The book is an easy short read that you'll enjoy curling up with.

Instead of summarizing this book again, I'll tell you what makes this book a great read! 1. Deadly Obsession has an abundance of amazing characters. The main characters Nic and Lauren both have a lot going on in their lives. Lauren lost her husband due to the war, had to work hard to support her son, and she has "body issues" just like the rest of us. Nic seems to be this "playboy" but we learn that he actually is a good man carrying around a lot of unnecessary baggage, as well as dealing with a psycho-stalker. Kaden and Remi are hilarious, Lauren's son-Jason is adorable, and the list goes on. 2. The romance between Lauren and Nic was believable (and hot!). Sometimes in cases of "instant attraction" or when one person is a celebrity I feel the need to say "BS, their relationship would never work or it would never happen that way!" Not the case here! 3. Loved the parts with Nic's stalker, I was so eager to find out who the stalker was! 4. I love when the author provides the reader with enough clues to figure out who the killer is-Ms. Cayne did this!!
If you enjoy romantic suspense, I'd recommend this book. Remi's book will be published soon. But I'm hoping for a book with Rachel, Nic's sister!!
The first book in the Deadly Vices series by Kristine Cayne. I read the second book first and really enjoyed it. The series is really stand-alone stories so it isn't crucial to read them in order. Nic Lamoureux is an actor with a stalker. Well, one really psycho stalker along with a bunch of less dangerous ones. Lauren James wins a chance to photograph Nic. As a single mom and widow, this could make her career. Nic knows he should leave Lauren alone and that he is putting her in danger with his interest but, well, they just can't help themselves.
Overall I found this to be a satisfying read. It wasn't totally without flaws but they were minor ones in my opinion. I do recommend this to lovers of romantic suspense.
I really enjoyed Deadly Obsession. I thought it was well written and despite me not particularly caring for the celebrity world, I found the way in which this story was jam packed full of sexy romance and thrilling suspense had me hooked right from the start.
I loved that we got to hear the voices of both our heroine and our hero. I developed an immediate connection to both of them as their POV’s were strong and had such emotion.
Our heroine Lauren is an extremely real and relatable character. She is sadly a young widow and has had to work real hard to support her young son. She also has all the typical issues of us real women as well as strength and determination.
Lauren is a very talented yet undiscovered photographer who is itching to get more freelance work. She is so grounded and independent with a real sweet innocence and a heart of gold.
Nic “The Lover” Lamoreaux is one of Hollywood’s biggest movie stars. And yeah…sigh…he is yummy, despite me finding his nickname way too cheesy though!! Nic is trying to make as many movies as he can in order to make money to protect his secret and his past.
Lauren gets the chance to photograph Nic who she has had a secret crush on since she was at school with him. Lauren is everything Nic secretly wants, and once he discovers her talent, he decides to help her start off her freelance career. Upon meeting at a photography session, this is where their journey begins which is one of secret fantasies, love, lust, jealousy, hate, obsession, dark secrets and violence.
The thrilling suspense in their story comes in the form of a stalker aptly named NicsBitch who seems to know his every move, eerily so and everything gets pretty ugly once Lauren enters Nic’s life. He has to make the decision on whether to forego his heart for her and her son’s safety or try and find this psycho killer stalker.
At times I found the story a little predictable, yet I also found a lot of refreshing twists and directions which combined with the fab characters and the romance was pretty spot on; making it a sexy suspenseful well written read.
Overall, I thought this book was a great read and it definitely had me hooked, I look forward to reading Deadly Vices #2
I bought Deadly Obsession for $0.99 thinking it sounded interesting and for that price it was worth it. If I hated it, i wouldn’t have lost much money.
BUT I have to say, Deadly Obsession had me hooked from the first page. Wow. It was such an easy and enjoyable read. So much suspense, horror, romance and heartwarming story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so faced paced it was really easy to just want to keep reading and forgetting to go to bed. LOL…
It was hard to put down every time I had to.
I have never before read anything by Kristine Cayne but I’m glad I did. It was so worth it.
Nic and Lauren together was just wonderful, sexy and sensual. They have so much chemistry and bonding. Nic being the ‘Superstar and Sexy ‘Nic The Lover” had his own persona that he had to keep up with in public, but hides to everyone but Lauren. Lauren is such a strong character lead and partner to Nic. They’ve both been through so much in their past, which makes them stronger and helps them build a trust between them that builds their relationship. The sex scenes were sizzling hot.
As for the rest of the cast. The stalker was soooo creepy, horrifying and totally crazy, it was totally believable. Although I guessed right at who the stalker was, I was still shocked at what the Stalker did to keep Nic. The rest of the supporting cast was also so enjoyable.
This was a non-stop book that was so fast paced with so much suspense it had me at the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. I cannot wait for the next book. I truly recommend Kristine Cayne to everyone looking for an exciting and amazing read.
Kristine really blew me away with this book I've never heard of her before reading this book and I read it because somebody in a group suggested it. Take one really hot, Hollywood actor with an obsessive, overprotective agent and add in Lauren, a widowed single mother and her cute little boy Jason and you have Deadly Obsession. A definite must read!
Without giving too too much away I'll say this : I really liked this book. I loved the characters Nic, Lauren , and little Jason,as well as some of the other characters as well.. and for some reason right from the start I had an idea that the culprit would end up being Vivian... You could tell just by the way it began with the first photo shoot. I'm not one for this type of book normally but I really enjoyed it... Definitely a must read :)
When Nic "The Lover" Lamoureux, Hollywoods' premier A-list actor and playboy, meets department store photographer and single mom Lauren James, the sparks fly and passion ignites. Unfortunately, Nic is the object of many women's desires including a dangerous stalker. Unable to stay away from Lauren due to his increasing feelings for her, Nic unwittingly puts Lauren into the stalkers' sights and subsequently in danger. If these two want to have any chance at exploring a real relationship, the stalker's identity must be discovered before something truly deadly happens to one, or both, of them.
Characters:
Nic Lamoureux is used to the spotlight and the constant hassle of dealing with the infamous Hollywood paparazzi. But, it's not really who he is. He draws on every bit of his incredible, Oscar-worthy acting skills to keep his private life a secret as he has many things he doesn't want the masses knowing. Playing the carefree loverboy is almost easier than dealing with the inner demons that haunt him and the crazy stalker that seems to know his every move. He truly turns out to be a very sweet, loving, caring man who is fiercely loyal and protective of those he loves...a perfect leading man!
Lauren James is a widowed single mother who struggles to make ends meet as a department store photographer. She has dreams of becoming a professional free-lance photographer one day and her big chance occurs when she wins a contest...the prize? A professional photo shoot with none other than Nic The Lover. As she comes to terms with her increasing desires and feelings for Nic, she manages to find strength and confidence and happiness again. She's truly an inspiring leading lady that any woman could relate to and respect!
World-Building:
Nic's world is mainly a world of paparazzi, glamour, and constant tabloid headlines whether he's on or off the set. But his private life is the complete opposite of his public image and the author has woven the two together seamlessly. Lauren's world is that of a working single mother trying to do the best for her son while striving to make her own dreams come true. All of these worlds come together to make an intriguing backdrop to a fascinating story.
Overall Impression:
I will honestly say that this book truly surprised me in a very good way! I won a copy of it from the author through a giveaway that Shannon at Cocktails and Books was hosting. The synopsis sounded interesting but I've learned that most romance novels I read end up falling in the 3-star range or below. Not this one, however. It had me from the very first page and I truly didn't want to put it down! The plot was intriguing, the world fascinating, and the characters and their interactions were awesome! The only down-side to this book was that I had figured out who the stalker was way too soon. It would have been nice to have been kept guessing a little more before actually figuring it out. But, the book still was an incredible read. There were actually three perspectives in this book: Nic's, Lauren's, and the stalker's. I really liked that because it gave me a glimpse into each person's head and what their motivations and feelings were. And some of the stalker's passages were very creepy but still felt so realistic!
This book is meant for 18+ due to sex scenes and language, so I can only recommend this book to the 18+ reader. But those that meet that criteria, if you're looking for a really good romance novel with a solid plot and an edge, definitely check out this book!
Deadly Obsession by Kristine Cayne is a great love story filled with both romance and suspense.
Lauren James, a struggling widowed mom, has had a crush on Nic since high school. She entered a contest to be the assistant photographer in a photo shoot with Nic. She is hoping this shoot will give her the boost in her career that she needs. And of course she is looking forward to seeing the man who has been in her dreams for quite some time.
Nic Lamoureux is a Hollywood movie star who knows how the play the role of Hollywood playboy very well. He works hard to keep his reputation ans Nic the Lover. But there is a lot more to Nic that that, and on some level the man that the world sees is not the true Nic Lamoureux. He doesn't trust many people and has let few people in his life. He has a secret past that he has kept to himself for fear of it ruining his career, because at this point he needs his career more than he wants it. Deep down he wants a woman he can trust and who loves him for who he is and not what he does. When he meets Lauren at the photo shoot she is unlike any woman he has ever dated. The chemistry between the two are instant, there is that instant connection and pull that neither can deny.
I loved Nic and Lauren together. Lauren is everything that Nic has ever wanted in a woman, and Nic has been has been occupying Lauren's dreams since high school. Their relationship is hot and sexy, sweet and romantic and the bond that Nic forms with Lauren's son is just adorable. Their relationship is also real and believable. Lauren and Nic both bring some baggage into their relationship from their pasts. Nic's tragic past that has left him with a tremendous amount of guilt, but also the fear that if Lauren finds out about his past he will lose the one woman he has ever loved. Lauren's husband dies 5 yrs ago in the war and she is left with that fear of losing the one she loves, but her insecurities also play a part in the issues that the two of them have to face together.
There is also that minor detail that Nic has a stalker who is willing to do everything in her power to take Lauren or any other woman who gets in her way, out. Nic will do anything to protect Lauren and her son, even if it means sacrificing their relationship. Can they past their fears and insecurities and live a happy life together, and more importantly will the stalker get her way and the man she loves?
I love Kristine's Cayne's writing. She has a way of connecting the readers to her characters. You feel the emotions that they are going through and want to see them happy. She pays great attention to the details that are important and knows how to write hot and sexy scenes. I love that this book was written in both Nic and Lauren's POV given the reader a inside look into both of their minds. I knew who the stalker was before reading this, only by finding out accidentally, but that did not take away from the story at all. I was still left on the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to come next. This was my first book by Kristine Cayne and will not be my last. If you are looking for hot, sexy romance with some added suspense then Deadly Obsession is a must read.
Deadly Obsession was simply fantastic. My eyes were glued to this book the whole time! The only time I stopped reading it is for bathroom and snack breaks.
Nic, the Lover, Lamoureux is a very popular movie star who has all the women falling at his feet. He is living his dreams making movies and lots of money, but Nic has been receiving messages from a stalker named NicsBitch. The stalker always knows his every location and sends him messages when she thinks he is getting “too out of line”.
Nic has always lived his life in regret because of an accident that happened when he was a teenager. One night he was playing video games with his friends when he needed to leave the house. His sister Rachel told him they needed to go and he told her he needed just five more minutes and they would go. While in a hurry driving, he crashed into a tree with his sister in the car. Rachel’s legs were pinned between the dashboard and the seat of the car and she was losing a lot of blood. It took the paramedics two hours to get her out. Nic has always felt like as if it was his fault. His father always blamed him and he felt like he deserved it. Nic dropped out of High School to get a job and help out his family, but his dad always told him it wasn’t good enough. When Vivian and her husband David came along they made his wildest dream come true, to be an actor.
Lauren James is an aspiring photographer that works at a department store to make ends meet so she can support her son Jason. Lauren suffered a great loss when she lost her husband Todd to war. Ever since then she has lived alone... just Lauren and her son, Jason. After Todd's death, Lauren started feeling resentment towards him because he made the decision to re-up with out talking to her first, and now he was dead. She wore his dog tags every day to remember what they once had.
After winning the contest to shoot Nic, the Lover, Lauren is stoked. Nic shows up with his agent Vivian and agrees to let Lauren shoot him. They both have an instant connection and attraction to each other. When the paparazzi show up Nic kisses Lauren because that's what he does with all his "Paparazzi girls", but Lauren is different. their kiss ends up being full of passion that neither expected. Nic makes another appointment with Lauren because he loves her ideas and he recognizes that she has genuine talent.
The storyline of the stalker had me just as captured as the storyline of Nic and Lauren. I love how their story unfolds. Nic and Lauren both have a past they aren't proud of they have to confront it. While falling in love with each other they reveal and relinquish their pasts to one another.
Deadly Obsession is a "Must Read" book! It absolutely rocked: and I didn't want it to end. It has a great story line, and characters that you will think about way after you've read the book. The progression of the book is just right, it's not too fast or too slow. It will leave you begging for more! Kristine, you are a truly talented writer and it was a pleasure to read your book!
Hot Hollywood playboy, Nic Lamoureux works hard to keep up his image as Nic the Lover for his adoring fans. What they don't know is the man is alone and closed off from those that he loves due to his fame, his guilt and shame for acts in his youth and the stalker who threatens harm to any woman that gets close to him. Nic Lamoureux is a complex man who doesn't trust many people and spends the majority of the time being someone he's not. That changes when he meet the photographer who won a contest to conduct a photo shoot with Nic. Suddenly, he finds the one person that makes him feel complete and able to be the true Nic Lamoureux.
Lauren James is hoping the photo shoot with Nic Lamoureux will help open doors for her and advance her photography career. But she has a secret, she's had a crush on her photo subject since they were in high school together in Chicago. She hopes her crush doesn't show, but she can't help but be drawn to the man. Soon Nic is sweeping into her life and Lauren finds herself falling for this adult version of the boy she loved and the object of Nic's stalker who's determined to get her out of the picture.
I loved Nic and Lauren. They were absolutely hot together and clearly the other half of each other. Both of them had emotional baggage they brought into their relationship that, at time, threatened what was developing between them. How either of them reacted to that baggage could have had the story and their likeability as a couple going either way, but Kristine Cayne gave us some emotionally charged scenes as they dealt with each issue.
The stalker storyline was seriously creepy and kept me just as entertained as the romance between Nic and Lauren. I figured out early who the stalker was, but the lengths that she went to was so totally creepy and horrifying that I was riveted.
The secondary cast of characters were great and I'm hoping each one of them will get their own Deadly Vices story.
An awesome read that has found it's way on my list of books that I will definitely be rereading!
I don’t think I’ve read a more enjoyable and plain old engaging read for a very long time. There just isn’t anything I do not like about this book. It’s all action, it’s funny and spicy in places, and it provides a fascinating and entirely believable plot. Not overly-descriptive, but with just enough narrative to illustrate what is needed and take the story nicely along, the author does a very good job of presenting an angle to her main characters’ lives which would otherwise not have occurred to me. Ok, so it’s fiction. Yes, I knew that. My point is, though, that you won’t think it’s fiction as you read it. It feels real, it draws you in and you won’t want to put it down until the very end. The characterization is very good. All the characters are very well developed, they have an individual voice and a back story to support their motivations and relationships. There are action sequences that will make you grit your teeth, but also love scenes and dialogue that will put a smile on your face. You can’t help rooting for Nic and Lauren all the way through. The ending is more than satisfying. I was left content and happy that everyone got what they deserved. Was it too long? No, I don’t think so. In fact, I was a bit miffed that it finished. Who would enjoy this? Most people, I would think. It should definitely have an adult rating, though the love scenes are tastefully written, with just the right amount of heat and excitement. This is a romance, but the sort of romance that has a bit of everything mixed in with it. It has action, mystery, thrill, fighting, but also love. I don’t know what inspired Kristine Cayne to write deadly Obsession, but I sure hope she keeps finding this kind of inspiration again and again. I most certainly would read her other books. I recommend this fresh-thinking new author wholeheartedly. Deadly Obsession deserves and gets five stars from me.
I bought this book because it sounded edgy. The book was well written and the author did a great job with presenting it professionally. I was disappointed that is actually more of a romance than I had planned on. I am not a big romance reader. The formula that is required to make a book a romance is a bit too predictable for me and too perfect.
That is not a knock on the book. That is my reading preferences talking. For peole who love romances I would highly recommend this book.
I really liked Lauren. She seemed real, like a person I would go out to lunch with. I also enjoyed that she was not stunningly beautiful. It was refreshing to see a movie star fall in love with someone who was not a fashion model or have the looks of a pin up girl. Her personality was strong and independent and I liked her realistic way of thinking. I also liked her courage.
I did not care as much for Nic. Although I liked him, I never felt crazy about him. I guess it is because he was a little too perfect to seem real. The whole special needs/makeawish and the sister he feels quilty over was a bit too goody goody for me. But, again, I like a darker story. Reader preference. I am sure that many romance readers will love this about him.
I also wish that it was not so obvious who the stalker was. That was a bit disappointing. But, again, I don't think the gist of this book was to be thought of as a mystery, so I get that.
In short, those readers that love romance novels should grab this one and delve in. They won't be disappointed and, in fact, they will be quite entertained.
I thought when I got this book that I was in for a nice little read. I would guess who did it by chapter 3 and wait for the plot to catch up. Boy was I wrong, this is a smart savvy story that is a first class romantic suspense and uses the fact we know who the stalker is to full effect. It is a intense and the plot is laid out in such a way that you are on the edge of your seat just waiting for Nik to see what we see. This is a masterpiece and it blew me away, the emotional intensity grabs you from page 1 and doesn't let up till the very last word, it is heartstoppingly beautiful and bloodcurdlingly believable and I for one bow down to a very scarey author!!
This is a really great book. Very hard to put down and very easy to read quickly. The characters are great and you really want to get to know them. You even want to know about the creepy stalker, just to see what it is that makes her really tick. You really want Nic and Lauren's relationship to work out.And the support characters are really well written as well and you want to learn more about them. The story doesn't disappoint.
I received this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.
Kristine Cayne is a very talented writer! I really enjoyed reading "Deadly Obsession" and I definitely believe this book deserves a top spot in the charts. I give this book 5 STARS for a multitude of reasons: Ms. Cayne has an amazing writing style, this book was perfectly paced, the characters were relatable and loveable, and the plot was great. I just felt "Deadly Obsession" was an overall great book and I loved every minute of it. This book has all the ingredients for the best-seller recipe: high school crushes, second chances, adult romances, love, hate, violence, obsession, guilt, and the deep dark secrets of the past. Put all this together with an incredibly sexy Hollywood movie star, a single mom who is a department store photographer, a bunch of fans, and a psycho stalker killer. Sound good yet? I thought so!
Nic "The Lover" Lamoreaux is one of Hollywood's biggest movie stars. He finds it very important to make as many movies as he can so he can make money to protect his secret. Then there is Lauren James, a department store photographer and single mother to a young son. After winning a photography contest, Lauren has the chance of a lifetime. She gets to be the sole photographer for a photo shoot with Nic "The Lover." It turns out that Lauren remembers Nic from high school and he had the starring role to all her naughty fantasies. Lauren is Nic's dream girl, and after discovering she really has talent, he decides to help her with her career. One thing leads to the next and Nic and Lauren fall in love. Problem is, one of Nic's fans doesn’t like Nic with any girl - especially not one he is actually in love with. This stalker calls herself NicsBitch and always happens to know everything. Small threats lead to serious matters, and things get ugly real quick. Nic doesn't think Lauren is safe with him anymore and wants to protect her and her son at all costs - even if the price is his heart. Who is this stalker and how do they know everything about Nic? What exactly do they want? Will Nic and Lauren find a way to be together? Was it ever really meant to be in the first place? Find out in this great 5 STAR book by Kristine Cayne "Deadly Obsession."
I thought the characters in this story were great! I instantly fell in love with Nic and Lauren. And this love was not just an insta-crush...nope I loved these characters more and more as the story went on. I found them relatable and just plain real! Even though Nic was this hot shot Hollywood actor, he just wanted a calm and normal life. He loved his fans, but he hated the Hollywood life. I also love Lauren’s character. She is a strong woman and single mother. She wants the best for her child and works hard to get it. I am a single mom so I really enjoyed that Lauren was too. And it kind of gives you hope that there are good men out there who want to be with you even if you already have a child. I liked that she was a strong character and knew what she wanted. I loved Nic and Lauren together. They made me smile, laugh, ooh and ahhh. But, I also got upset when outside forces were trying to tear them apart. I enjoyed the supporting cast as well. I really liked Remi, he was so funny! I thought Nic and Remi had a great friendship and they always made me laugh. I look forward to reading more about Remi in Kristine Cayne’s next installment of this series.
Altogether, I thought this book was great and I definitely recommend this 5 STAR book. I loved the suspense and the romance. It just went together perfectly! I just can’t get over how much I fell in love with Nic and Lauren. I was routing for them and wanted them to have their Happily Ever After. If you love Adult Romance, Suspense, Humor, and Thrills, then you will love “Deadly Obsession” by Kristine Cayne. I think everyone should check this book out – it was just that good!
This was a crazy week - back to school, back to work, back to kids and my activities, and a snowstorm to boot - and this reading this book was my daily treat! Deadly Obsession by Kristine Cayne is a romantic suspense , and boy does it deliver! Nic "The Lover" Lamoureux is a hot Hollywood star who deals with his share of overzealous fans, but NicsBitch is a whole new kind of creepy. She knows where he is, who he is with, and makes sure Nic knows it. When photographer Lauren James comes into the picture, Nic quickly feels the pull towards this woman who is so different from all the Hollywood starlets. However, NicsBitch has already laid her claim. How far will she go to make sure Nic will be hers, and how far will Nic go to protect Lauren from not only from his stalker, but also the secrets of his past?
This book was well written with great attention to detail - from hockey teams, to music, to jewelry, and more, Ms. Cayne definitely did her research! It adds so much to the story and to the characters. (I hate it when authors say, "he put on his favorite song" and then don't tell you what it is! LOL) The characters were very well developed, real with real flaws, and I felt like I knew them and rooted for them from the very beginning! And the villain...wow. The insight into that character and the workings of her mind was phenomenal. I could see the crazy, but at the same time I could see where things went wrong and what she believed and actually felt some sympathy for her. You know the author has done an excellent job when you feel for the bad guy!!
This story had meat - lots of varied and interesting events to build the suspense and the story - not like some that have one or two incidents and then a happy ending. The only thing I can say that might be a negative is I did figure out the villain very early into the book - but that could just be because I am all sorts of awesome, lol. Even though I had the villain pegged, it didn't take away from the story. It was written in such a way that I still was intrigued with how the villain was going to "solve" each situation and I still enjoyed watching the puzzle pieces fall into place.
Now as for the important part, lol, the romance!! As with everything else, it was well thought out and most importantly, BOY did I feel for these characters. I watched them fall in love in a real, and sweet way, and for me this makes a romance book. There was instant attraction, sure, but none of this one look and they fall in love instantly and wham bam thank you ma'am by page 20 kind of junk that seems to be so popular at the moment. It was real, and touching, and oh so hot because I knew what it meant to the characters. Yes, I am a total sap.
So what's my verdict? For romantic suspense, I give this a 4.5 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed this, and I can't wait to get started on Kristina Cayne's second book in the Deadly Vices series, Deadly Addiction!
Lauren James needs this one moment in time with Nic 'The Lover' Lamoureux to make a name for herself. No, no...not THAT kind of name for herself! Lauren wants to get herself out of the department store portrait studio and start doing freelance work. And taking Nic's pictures will only help her career. But gosh, here is the man, who had the starring role in all her fantasies since the 11th grade, even before he was a big time actor. She better not screw this up or it is back to taking pics of snotty nose kids.
Once Nic lays eyes on Lauren he realizes he has it bad for her. Spending an afternoon with her has him fantasizing about spending even more time with her. Not to mention fantasizing about the things he wants to do to her. What is it about her that gets his blood pumping in certain areas? He could have any girl he wants; he is Nic the Lover after all. Yet, Lauren is absolutely perfect and she is all he can think about.
But, when the relationship starts to heat up…so does the threats from his biggest stalker. This stalker has upped the ante and is now making threats against those that Nic loves and now Lauren. Will Nic give up on the idea of love to keep Lauren safe? Or will he man up and find out who this deadly stalker is to protect those that he cares most about?
Deadly Obsession was such a good book. But note to those who read it: HOT, STEAMY romance is what you will find within the pages of this well written book. Hot romance that had me blushing tremendously…steamy romance that made for a VERY interesting read…great written characters and a fabulous storyline. This book has it all. But also…it had that perfect mystery I find I am enjoying more and more in the books I read. I love playing detective right along with the characters. Of course I realized who the stalker was long before the characters, but it was interesting watching it all play out.
I so enjoyed this story and think that you will too. I will definitely be looking into more of Kristine’s work. But will only read it when my children are not around. Yes, I made that mistake and it only hampers the enjoyment of the read. If you decide to read Deadly Obsession, let me know what you think of it.
Deadly Obsession by Kristine Cayne is a romantic suspense novel that begins the Deadly Vices series. Nic Lamoureux is a big time movie star, dubbed Nic the Lover by the media, who has at least one crazed stalker and some secrets to keep. Lauren James is a photographer with the chance of a lifetime, photographing Nic could make her career. The stalker threatens the lives of the women surrounding Nic, leaving him worried and potentially ruining everything when Nic and Lauren grow closer and the stalker's actions intensify. Can Nic come to terms with his secrets, and will Lauren risk everything to help him?
Deadly Obsession was a good read, but did not wow me. Nic was a tortured alpha male, that just seemed to have everything going for him except the intense fans and lack of privacy. Lauren is a widow and single mom with issues of her own to deal with. They just happened to go to igh school together, and just happened to have crushes on each other back in the day but thought the other never noticed them. While it is done well in the book, it still felt a little to convenient to me. I also had a little trouble with the ease of which Lauren left her son behind with family, in fact I wondered through most of the book where her son was. The there was the suspense and mystery portion of the stalker. I quickly came up with my own idea of who Nic's stalker was, although I did doubt myself a few times because it seemed too easy. I will say that the character's trip to the conclusion was also well handled, a few curve balls to through me off the trail might have been nice, or Nic and Lauren agreeing on the culprit a little sooner would have been fine.
Deadly Obsession was a decent read, and I enjoyed it while I was reading. However, it did not rise above good. It did not wow me like some of my other recent reads have. Perhaps if I had not read this on the heals of some absolutely fantastic books I would have more positive things to say. So, if you are looking for a read to divert you or entertain you for a day or two, borrow Deadly Obsession but it will not it into my collection.
Obsession by Kristine Cayne is a romantic suspense novel. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this is Ms. Cayne's debut novel and it is also self-published. I will start by saying that Ms. Cayne is in the category of authors who are helping to lift the stigma attached to self-publishing. She has crafted a wonderful story that deserves a place on your bookshelf.
Deadly Obsession is in the romantic suspense genre, but if I could, I would also categorize it as hot and thrilling. The male lead, Nic Lamoureux, is a movie star and also speaks french (as his name implies). *swoon* The female lead, Lauren James, is a photographer and single mother who has won a contest and the privilege of a photo shoot with Nic. And thus our two MCs meet.
The attraction between them is unexplained at first, but the story goes on to give you a very plausible reason why a movie star would fall for a single mom working in a small photography studio in Seattle. I won't give it away, but suffice it to say, this reason also brings our movie star hero down to an accessible level. Their love story is complicated by the fact that Nic has a stalker. A deadly one. And the stalker's new target is Lauren. Even though the reader is able to deduce fairly quickly who the stalker is, it does not take the excitement out of watching Nic and Lauren figure it out for themselves.
All in all I would give Deadly Obsession a 5/5. Ms. Cayne's second book, Deadly Addiction, is slated for release sometime this year. I sense another book in my TBR pile! :-)
BRIEF SUMMARY Lauren gets the chance to jump start her career by doing a photo shoot for the handsome, Oscar winner Nic Lamoureux, thanks to winning a photo contest. The sparks between them are immediate, but Nic's agent and mentor doesn't like what she says one bit and let's Lauren know that. Nic is being harassed by a stalker and now the stalker is harassing any woman Nic gets close to. Lauren is a widow with a son and Nic doesn't want to bring danger into their lives but can they stay away from each other?
THOUGHTS
I really liked this story! Bravo the author, Kristine Cayne. Lauren and Nic both have hurtful secrets in their past and with the help of one another they work through them. The stalker was pure evil and devises a plan to get Nic to see she is the one for him. However, Lauren and Nic will not allow that to happen. This story was a page turner with the stalking suspense along with the love scenes that are steamy! The secondary characters were good as well, maybe another book starring Rachel and Remi? *hint hint*. Another great example how love and forgiveness can bring us to the path of happiness we never thought we deserved.
Story: VERY GOOD Intimacy: SPICY Enjoyment: VERY GOOD

This is the first book in a long time that I stayed up all night to read. Literally I read until 4:30am to finish this book. I loved loved loved this book. I am not a professional reviewer just to let you know, I'm more of a professional romance book reader who loves happy endings. I won this book in the First Reads contest/giveaways. I was immediately drawn into the story which is always a plus for me. While the story is predictable there are some really unexpected twists. I think the characters are fully developed with vivid descriptions and believable backgrounds/stories. Watching how the Hero/Heroine reveal their pasts and then deal with the consequences was realistic. It was refreshing to have a hero who did not handle everything (his past for example) perfectly. A cast of secondary characters who actually add to moving the story forward. My only complaint was how long it took the main characters to find out who the villain was because other than that issue they character seemed very smart and aware of things. This book has all the elements of a great romantic read. Hot hero who has substance to him, a smart, independent yet vulnerable heroine. Just the right amount of hot steamy sex. This is one wild ride from start to finish and I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Deadly Obsession is a suspense romance novel based on the eternal triangle, here one man and two women. Oscar-winning movie star Nic Lamoureux meets department-store photographer Lauren James and sparks fly; their attraction is instant and the chemistry burns. Unfortunately the third side of the triangle is Nic's stalker who is determined to have Nic all for herself and is not planning on any competition.
The plot is lively and engaging and you are transported to Nic's glamorous Hollywood world. You share Lauren's anxieties as she finds herself drawn further and further into Nic's life and although you have a pretty good idea about the identity of the stalker early on it isn't confirmed until you are well into the story.
Apparently author Kristine Cayne is fascinated by the mysteries of human psychology: twisted secrets, deep-seated beliefs, out-of control desires. In Deadly Obsession she certainly brings these fascinations to life. Deadly Obsession is well written and well presented. I think it will appeal to any reader who likes sizzling - at times very sizzling - romance with a thriller edge. I enjoyed reading it and think it would make an excellent holiday read because you won't want to put it down.
Deadly Obsession. Great title. This was my first time reading Kristine Cayne. And won't be my last. She had me from the very first page with instant intrigue that didn't dim throughout the entire story.
Nic "the lover" Lamoureux is a world famous actor with a horrible secret. He will do anything to keep that secret from being exposed. He also has a psychotic stalker who wants him for herself. Who will personally exterminate anyone who gets too close to him.
Lauren James. Single mother and gifted photographer. She wins a photography contest to assist in a photo shoot of Nic Lamoureux, whom she has had a crush on for a very long time.
I liked how this book kept me on the edge of my seat. Everytime it seemed things were going well, that pesky stalker or the paparazzi would intrude to spoil things. The pace and flow of this story really worked for me. I enjoyed the characters and how it was written in a way that made it seem believable. The steamy parts were very... well... steamy. *wink*
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a sexy romance mixed with intrugue, mystery, and suspense.
