America takes 75% of the worlds medications and seven out of ten people die of chronic and preventable diseases. The health care system meant to remedy this problem is now the third leading cause of death itself. This exists because we often ignore our health or assume we are healthy until disease hits. Then once disease hits we manage the sickness with drugs and surgeries. That's not health care, that's sick care. This book is the guide to experience real health. If you manage sickness and disease you get sickness and disease, if you build health you get health.
My review of three stars is not because of content but rather the writing. It is repetitive and cheesy but an easy quick read. Most of what he teaches, I already knew about nutrition, exercise and doctors. But it was a great reminder and did inspire me to improve myself. So I would give him five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for his enthusiasm, sincerity, and effectiveness in helping others.
My curiosity about current trends in health and exercise and improvement in those areas of life, led me to read this little book. The doctor is genuine in his passion to help as many people as possible. He's also sincere in his writing of his own personal experiences but extremely repetitive. The story of his father who seemed healthy but had a massive heart attack which led him to many doctors creating even more problems, Is the basis for this doctor to change the way he decided to practice medicine. Instead of doing the typical symptomatic approach to health care, he approaches the care of his patients by addressing the cause through fixing your food, your frame which is posture and core strength, fixing your focus by being grateful, fixing your filters as in your digestive system and ability to detoxify, and to fix your fitness through a daily 10-minute regimen. He tries to simplify food intake by suggesting very clean, real foods and avoiding all the garbage that we seem to ingest on a daily basis thinking it would never harm our bodies. He covers supplements recognizing that our food is very depleted of much-needed nutrition nowadays. Of course, it's more of a teaser to join his online programs and to purchase his food supplements. But the book itself could and will get a person on the right track in those five areas because it includes enough instruction to clean up your bad habits and to track good habits. This is done with recipes, shopping lists, and a 21-day journal all included in the book. I have visited his website and seen his broadcasts on Facebook. He is super genuine and is doing great things for people who are desperately and seriously hurting through bad health and brings them to a better quality of life. But it's not just for those who are seriously ill, it is for all who want to have better health and quality of life.
This book takes the approach at building up the confidence of the reader while sounding the alarm on the failures that have lead to poor conditions of health that can be modified by simple exchanges of errors for solutions. Dr. Livingood will open your eyes to the need for reformation in lives of privileged Americans who have fallen victim to the cycles of bad habits. Encouraging new attitudes about eating and fortifying the body with a balance of reasonably scheduled exercise and a health conscious partially relaxed system of dietary discipline. He uses biblical principles effectively to get to the heart of the darkness covering up the awareness of abused practices in healthcare. He formulates a strategy to "win your independence" from the burdens of medical bills, illnesses, and prescription drug mayhem. Delightful and Rehabilitating with so many atmospheric peripheral benefits that Dr. Livingood adds to the book like a committed basic training coarse to reinforce a higher standard of life.
Could not put it down. Read it in two days. It’s convincing and well done. However putting it into practice was a level of commitment I’m not ready for yet.
Solid basic information though seems like the main point may be to sell supplements? Says eat real food but sells bars? Says eat real food and sells a “balance of nature” type replacement?
Simple facts that we all know but often fail to implement. He even included what to do to exercise and eat right with a workbook and recipes. This is going to help me greatly as I try to work on my health. I recommend everyone try to read this book.
This book is really written for people who have not yet begun a health journey, yet expects people to "start now". In reading this book, I didn't learn anything I haven't read elsewhere. If somebody can somehow white knuckle themselves into habit building, the concepts in this book will serve them greatly.
I am using this book's workbook to avoid wasting it and to do a little self challenge, but even the workbook is aimed at somebody very new into their health journey.
I truly enjoyed this book and was quite surprised by some of the things in it. I think what I liked the most was that while Dr. Livingood is telling you how to get healthy he is giving you the tools to do so. I loved that there was an eating plan and recipes. It made my life so simple while trying to implement the 21 Day plan. Finally, someone who speaks his truth and helps others find theirs in a simple way.
Incredible book! I could not put it down. I think every single person could benefit from reading this. Short and easy read as well. One of my all time favorite books by far!
Must read for everyone! Our 'healthcare system' is a 'sick care system'. Real health is possible without a bunch of medications. Most doctors will push a medication rather than a nutritional change or supplement. I am so blessed to have found this book. My labs are moving in the right direction and so is my weight. I feel better and have more energy. It is a journey, but finally, I am moving in the right direction with Dr. Livingood's help.
Update: After 6 months of living this lifestyle, I feel so much better and have so much more energy! My doctor has taken me off of 8 medications! I have lost over 70 lbs! My pain is lessening! My blood sugar and A1C are normal! Other labs are looking good too. I have taken the money that I saved from not having to buy the medications and put it into things to build health, like supplements and organic container gardening. This lifestyle builds real health!!
While the writing style leaves a lot to be desired, the basic message is clear--people are eating poorly and not exercising. We are not drinking enough water, nor sleeping long enough. Many of our conditions and diseases are self-imposed or worsened by these bad habits. This is just one book of many though that demonstrate how to improve all of that. I do like the healthy recipes at the end that are provided for the 21 day challenge, in which unhealthy foods are eliminated for three weeks. Four stars for content, but three for presentation of it. Worth reading.
This is a must read for everyone! Especially for people on prescription drugs. As Dr. Livingood states, we don’t have a health care system, we have a sick care system that leads people on a treadmill of drugs and surgeries. This 21 day guide will get you on the right track to recovering your health. Pick up your copy today and start living good and experience real health!
My husband and I are in our mid 70's and both still work and try to live good. My husband owns a tree service business and climbs trees nearly every day. We were looking for an extra boost to our health and found this great book. A must read!!!
This was a nice easy read. To the point. Content that everyone needs to know. We all need to be healthy and stay OUT of the hospital and doctor offices! Be your own doctor and change your life😊
I just completed my first 21 days off sugar using Dr. Livingood’s program. I did have a short reset when my mom came to stay with me for a few days, and I’m starting the 21 days again today. I honestly feel like the first round was the hardest, and this time will be much easier. Within the first few days, I started noticing real physical changes. My trigger finger (thumb) stopped popping out of place. The burning sensation in the palm of my right hand was almost nonexistent. The pain in my left foot disappeared entirely. My tennis elbow began improving—not fully healed yet, but noticeably better. Before starting the program, my tennis elbow was so bad that I had to use both hands to lift my large water bottle. After a few days without sugar, I could lift it with one hand again. The pain was still there, but manageable. Now, when I pick it up, I notice it slightly, but it’s nothing like it used to be. Around day eight, my body went through what felt like a major adjustment as the last of the sugar left my system. I experienced frequent hot flashes, dizziness, and moments where I felt like I might pass out. It honestly felt like the flu leaving my body. Once I got through that phase, the shift was incredible. The energy I felt on the other side was something I hadn’t experienced since high school. Even when I went off the 21 days for four days to spend time with my mom, the difference was obvious. Before those four days were over, I was already sick of sugar. I couldn’t wait to get back to eating this way. The bloating started to return, my energy dropped again, and it became very clear how much better I felt without sugar. This isn’t just a diet for me—it will be a way of life. My clothes are getting looser. Things that used to feel tight no longer do. Clothes that wouldn’t zip up before now zip with ease. I can only imagine what the results will look like after doing this consistently for a year.
Livingood Daily is an excellent guide for helping individuals change and maintain their health! By acknowledging that we ourselves are the greatest doctor in many sectors of our own lives, Livingood Daily spurs its readers to first realize that THEY are the solution to good health. The goal of this book is to help people experience real health through proven methods that provide aid in getting off medications, overcoming disease and losing weight. Livingood Daily guides people in fixing the 5 main areas of health: food, fitness, focus, filters and frame. Regarding food, Livingood Daily provides a map of the "4 C's" which are to cut the sugar, crank up the fat, clean up the protein, care about nutrients, and curb the consumption. Additionally, Livingood Daily addresses the ways in which our health care system in America should more accurately be called "sick care." While there were parts of this book that did not particularly apply to me and my current health status, there was a plethora of information that was relevant to my body and how I can enhance my mental and physical conditions. I would recommend this book to every person out there as it is pertinent in supporting the overall quality of human life. Livingood Daily inspired me to take my health seriously and it made me want to be more wise in how I treat my body. I found this book to be a very refreshing and practical model for building health and improving well-being through real nutrition, daily exercise, detoxing and focusing on the solution...which is ME.
Very informative and helpful to get you started. Some repetitive information, guessing so that it really drives it home, but at the same time some of it was a bit too repetitive and would have shortened the book a bit. Clearly written and great enthusiasm for the subject. A time error threw me off at one point saying 70 minutes of activity a day and then later say 70 minutes a week only 10 minutes a day, then saying take a day off... but the majority was well done and already making me question some of my food choices. Cleaning up food choices is goal number one for me since I do know even before reading this that I have a sugar addiction. I gave up soda pop when I was in my 20s, so that has not been the issue, but I like many things that have added sugar (most of them for no reason other than the food companies making you addicted to their product). Also, I have a favor towards sweets, cakes, cookies, and chocolate and even though it's dark chocolate, it's candy so it's still the bad for you kind, this book has really made me take a second look at that addiction and hopefully just keep reminding myself to go back and see the problems it causes will help me stop. I have modified some other things from the book too and ended up going back and using it more as a workbook, where I highlight some things I really way to make sure I do or remind myself on a regular basis.
Written at a conversational level, it could have more concise. It is a quick read, mainly because it is so conversational. Nothing really new is presented: eat organic, reduce sugar and processed foods, avoid medication, exercise using high intesity workouts, detox.
No where did I see this say one should consult with a medical professional before doing high intensity workouts or quitting your meds. (Which, in all fairness, is not stated, but implied.) Suggesting that a person does not take fever reducing drugs with a 104F fever seems dangerous.
And you are making these massive changes in 21 days.
The two pages of "citations" are really a bibliography. The citations that are made are few and far between. When one cited endnote is 27 and the next is 44, there are 17 endnotes between that are bibliography. The rigor isn't there.
Good, applicable and easy to understand information about attaining health through proper nutrition.
Simple to follow plan for a 21-day health reset is included to get you started toward improved health.
I've listened to this doctors podcast and believe he is right to encourage natural ways to improve health as opposed to a pill for every ailment.
Using healthy food and supplements as a basis to improve/cure many things that plague people, especially as you age, resonated with me.
Highly recommended for an easy introduction to improved health.
Four stars because this is an introduction to his health program. Of course, it's paid supplements and service, but this book gives a great start to anyone who is interested in better health but doesn't want to commit to a program.
Pros: It's a quick read because 1/3 of the book is the workbook, it has a very interesting perspective on our current "health care" system, and practical recommendations for lifestyle changes.
Cons: It could've used another round of editing, some of the references are for sources 15 years out of date, the food plan is very specific and doesn't seem to have options for food allergies, and there are some product pitches to buy their specialized items.
Overall: I'm glad I read it, and I will incorporate some of the changes. I got it from the library, so I was unable to use the workbook and start the 21-day challenge; debating whether ordering the workbook is worth it or not.
I've seen some reviews saying this is badly written but I don't understand those and don't agree. I follow Dr. Livingood online and I believe this book is a well organized, concise reference tool for his advice. Instead of looking through videos and web resources, you can mark pages and follow a workbook with recipes if you'd like to use his methods. I love that he's pushing folks to choose lifestyle and health over drugs and acquiescence to the system.
Yes, the author saved on a proofreader and an editor. Yes, the author is trying to sell his program and products (but not aggressively and only at the end - some actually may want to join the program), but the overall message is good. Become your own doctor and manage your health. If you do not, people who do not have your best interest at heart will manage your sickness (and make tons of money in the process). The book is full of practical advice and guides you step by step.
This book is a great tool to help heal your body from the inside out. The author talks about how this country’s health care system is really more of a “sick care” system and I definitely agree! He is somewhat repetitive with some of his anecdotes but all in all I found that it’s a lot of good advice to put into practice. It’s a quick and easy read that will inspire you to make changes to be 1% better every day!
Great info though nothing particularly new that I hadn’t heard before, and it did motivate me to get back into the healthy groove. The best thing is that my spouse read it and now understands what I have been telling him for years. Easy read though it could have used a good editor to tighten up the content and redundant stories but overall I would recommend particularly if the reader is new to the concepts.
Quick read. Waited months to get it from the library. Think they only had one in the entire Evergreen Library system. First half of the book did have some interesting information. Second half was recipes which I have no interest in. I did find myself agreeing with most things he said. I am not a fan of the health system.
Honest info about food process in America. Very clear instruction with charts and recipes. We are changing our eating habits so we can get healthier and enjoy the remainder of our lives. Never realized that food companies added so much sugar. Looking at labels more.
Very informative. I have been following this program for three days and have already lost 3 pounds. I believe the author is 100% correct in his comments about the medical and pharmaceutical industries You are your best doctor. You can heal yourself with food. Highly recommend this book if you are looking for a change
Great information that, unbelievably, so many people in the USA don’t know. If more people read this easy to understand, quick read, and implemented the simple life changes, America’s declining health would turn around rapidly.
