Fanciful action tale aimed at youthful readers during WW II. Plenty of action and suspense, but not very believable. Early in the book Dave and crew were aboard a B-17 that was attacked by a flight of six count them six Zeroes. They managed to shoot down all six enemy fighters while apparently receiving only a single bullet hit from the fighters. There are several other similar events, but Dave and his pal Freddie manage to slug through and best the vile enemies and make the world safe for democracy (at least temporarily, until the next adventure). All of this done without even setting foot on Guadalcanal! I make light of its flaws, but it is a quick and fun read.
