The author describes his experiences as a railroad fireman, tells the stories of individuals who have bought their own cabooses, and discusses railroad photography, rail laws, and train travel
I have always enjoyed Adolf Hungry Wolf's writing, especially the Good Medicine books about First Nation/Native American ways. A German/Hungarian American who married into a Native American family, he resides in BC and the Canadian Rockies with his Blackfeet wife and his children. It was a pleasure to run across this hard cover book by a man who actually owns several cabooses. I have always dreamed of having one, and he has not only acquired 4, but had many adventurous rides on them through his lifetime. He was once a longshoreman at San Pedro, a locomotive fireman for the Union Pacific RR, as well as a writer and teacher. Thanks Adolf, for all the great reading experiences.
This is a cute enough book. It meanders, by design; I found this worked better for me in some sections than in others. If you like trains, though, give it a look.
