Another "home run" of a novel from an author that just keeps her readers delighted with one after another of these Desire, OK stories. While Ms Brooke manages to keep the crisis alive in all her books, there is the added tension in this one of a whole lot of trouble caused by the abuse and lies of the heroine's ex-boyfriend--a young man who wants to live as he chooses without regard to anhyone else in his life and whose selfish ways have cause not only emotional and psychological injury to Allison Bennett, but serious physical injury as well. It is a story of two friends who are seeminly very different in many aspects of their personalities, but who are each enhanced by their friendship as well as their mutual desire for a future with a woman who will fulfill their lives and be their life-long companion and lover. Allison is reminiscent of Erin and her deep doubt about the nature of life in Desire and whether or not it can work. Now Erin has three husbands and she is understandably drawn to Allison and her questions about polyamorous marriages. Ms Brooke has also brought in familiar "friends" from the preceding novels in this series so there is the sense of getting re-acquainted with old friends. It is a story that also highlights the deep faith that these two heroes have in Allison even when their future with her is in question. Yet they make an investment in her, seeking her best, her protection, and insuring the ease of her future life whether or not she decides to remain with Dillon and Ryder. As always it is a very erotic novel and the picture of a community built on very 19th century values, yet in these stories it works. I'm waiting for Hunter and Remington's story--two very hardcore bachelors who really fear commitment. I want to meet the woman who can tame them.
Ahh its good to be back in Desire.. Were we get to see Ace right off the bat in sheriff duties and Boone, Chase and Rachel with the baby. This ones about Dillon and Ryder - the mechanic's in Desire and who we met in the first book.. Alison just got out of a abusive relationship and is coming to Desire for a seminar on how to please a man.. Ok as a woman I had a little issue with that. She is scared of strong brash men due to her crappy ex and she wants to learn how to please a man so they cant walk all over her anymore?? In the beginning of this book I soo wanted to slap some sense into her. She's a victim still playing the victim role and not even realizing it. At the seminar where all the women from previous books are Alison finally tries to understand about the men of Desire and she also learns to open up and enjoy being around new friends.. Thru this and something bad that happens at the club she finally decides to give Dillon and Ryder a chance.. The author did a very good job of showing some of the insecurities men and women involved in a menage relationship have. It was interesting to see the vulnerability from a man's POV. She also tackled domestic abuse from the beginning to the end - from the beginning of the relationship before it starts to the abuse and then to having the courage to testify against the ex in court. Overall a good book.. Loved seeing every past characters and some who will probably have there own book on the future..
I really struggled with what to rate this book... I ended up giving it a 2 Stars due to my inability to like Allison. For some reason she just constantly annoyed me and I just couldn't bring myself to relate to or sympathize with her. While, Ryder and Dillion may not be my favorite male characters, I at least could appreciate their personalities and sexiness!
Raw Desire seemed to be a little too long, but it was definitely filled with a lot of steamy sex. Unfortunately, Allison's personality and comments kind of distracted me from appreciating the growing relationship between all three. I actually found myself more interested in the plot, and wanting to know how the story would end, than the romance and the menage relationship. That's a rarity for me, especially with erotic books!
I enjoyed the supporting characters, and getting a glimpse of the people of Desire, Oklahoma. I love the idea of the town, and they way they all live their lives completely accepting of (and really expecting everyone to be in) menage relationships and marriages. I will definitely read more by Leah Brooke, and continue to revisit her town of Desire. Raw Desire wasn't a bad read, I just couldn't get over having Allison rub me the wrong way.
**** Dillon and Ryder are awesome alpha men! Alison (Ally), is a bit immature, bruised and beaten down by the old boyfriend. But with the guys help, she (too slowly) grows and learns to find her footing and trust. As "they" say, there is someone out there for everyone. Nobody is perfect. The great characters in Desire, OK are wonderful. I feel like I know the people because Leah Brooke is such a great author. Love a good Leah Brooke story. The "Desire" series is well written and interesting. This one was a bit to long in the back and forth of Ally finally deciding to be together.
Deep thoughtful feelings, hot menage sex and romance. I love how she introduces new characters to this little town of Desire. These stories are wonderful, and I will keep reading the whole series! ENJOY !!
Raw Desire is the sixth book in a series by Leah Brooke that I have loved every single volume. However, on an enjoyment scale from hate to like to love I have to say this one falls into the like category, and the main reason is I just couldn’t wrap my head or my heart around the heroine.I loved the men and really wanted a better third for them. This is more a plot driven novel than a character driven story, and for that reason I found myself reading quickly through some very scorching sex scenes in order to find out what happens next. I may have to go back and enjoy some of those scenes again. I did bookmark a few. *grin*

My Thoughts: Anyone familiar with the Desire, Oklahoma series will recognize the cast of characters in this story -- including Dillon and Ryder. The newest addition to the town comes in the form of Alison (Ally as affectionately referred to by Ryder). Alison comes to Desire on the heels of a bad breakup from an abusive boyfriend. Similar to all the other stories in the series, Dillon and Ryder come swooping into her life completing ensconcing themselves in it while overwhelming her with their (neanderthalithic) overbearing ways and masculinity.
The story prattled along at a lumbering pace, IMHO, as Alison whined about things being "none of your (Dillion and Ryder's) business" (said 14 times) and spanking threats from the men (mentioned 33 times...yes...I counted). The story was highly repetitive...not only of itself but of the other stories in the series. Really the characters in these stories are interchangeable because the story lines are so consistent with one other. This series now has 8 books in it...and honestly, as a reader, I'm getting to the point where I don't care because there is nothing unique about them anymore. Desire for Three: Winning Back Jesse is actually about the characters in Desire for Three. *Scratches my head*....so now we're going back and revisiting characters? Pass!
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Leah Brooke's work, I just want to see some originality come into play in her stories. As they are now...they are just meh because of near exactness of the stories and characters -- resistant females...dominant men...and they all live happily ever after. I'd like to see her throw some different characters in a the mix. Send someone of a different nationality to Desire to find love. Send a couple looking to add to their triad.......give me something different to work with.
Raw Desire wasn't unenjoyable...I just though it could have been much better and different.
Warning: Book contains: ménage à trois romance, M/F/M, BDSM, public exhibition, spanking, sex toys
Let me say that I have been a long time fan of Leah Brooke (aka Lana Dare). I have loved the Desire series both present and founding fathers and am slightly obsessed with this fictional town (if you’ve read them, you know why and if you haven’t, read them and find out). Since meeting Dillon and Ryder in book one, I’ve waited for their story. They just jumped off the page and screamed, “Just wait until it’s our turn.” Well, at least to me they did but it obviously took Leah a little longer but I’m not complaining, not too much.
Alison meets Dillon and Ryder when her truck breaks down as she’s headed into town. The town’s sheriff (Ace) comes along and immediately calls the town’s only garage owned by Dillon and Ryder. Alison is in town for some seminars at the women’s club. She’s just left an abusive relationship (mental and physical) and feels it’s time to get her groove back. Dillon and Ryder take an immediate interest in her much to her dismay.
I wish I could say I liked Alison and while I can certainly understand her trust issues and sympathize with her, I found myself wanting to tell her to wake up and see the goodness in front of her. She likes Dillon from the get go but her mixed messages frustrated me as much as they did him. Poor Ryder didn’t stand a chance with her; she pegged him as a bad boy heartbreaker without even knowing him. Trust me there is a lot more to Ryder than meets the eye. Dillon and Ryder set out to prove over and over that they were trustworthy and wanted nothing but good things for her but time and time again she compared them to her scumbag ex-boyfriend. Dillon and Ryder through it all remain patient, kind, understanding, and loving.
Despite my feelings towards Alison, I think she is good for them and I know they are good for her. I very much enjoyed seeing Ryder and Dillon getting their happily ever after, even though this isn’t my favorite in the series. That being said, I did enjoy this book. I loved how the town embraced Alison, something she needed very badly. I especially enjoyed her scenes with all the women from the town who quickly brought her into their circle, patiently answered her questions, and helped her understand the town and why the men act they way they do. Because I do love series books, I always appreciate these scenes because they allow us to catch up with previous characters. Leah did an excellent job of weaving in the previous couples along with people whose stories have yet to be told and build the anticipation for their stories. I’ve very much looking forward to the next book in this series, not even knowing whose story it will be. If you haven’t discovered Desire, Oklahoma it’s high time you did. You’ll be ready to build a house and settle down, I promise!
Alison breaks down on the road into Desire, OK with a painful past and an even more broken spirit. In Desire, she hopes for a haven in which to recoup, time to make a plan, and a chance to rebuild her self-esteem. She gets all that plus more than she bargains for when she catches the eye of garage owners and best friends, Dillon Tanner and Ryder Hayes.
Life in Desire is far from typical small town, USA. Thanks to a prequel to the current Desire series we know that the town was literally founded by two men and a woman who wanted a place to live together as a family, without scorn or prejudice. Those same founding father’s set the standard for accepting a new definition of traditional family with an old fashioned idea of protecting their own. In Desire, the men are strong but the women are their strength.
Dillon, Ryder and Alison are a prime example of how the right woman (or man) can change a person’s perspective and give them a reason to believe in happily ever afters. On the surface the story seems to be primarily about Alison needing help and healing. As the story progresses and we get more information about Ryder I think you’ll agree that he needed someone with Alison’s tenacious personality and quick temper as well as her acceptance of him to prove that true love isn’t something that just happens to other people.
As far as I know, Ms. Brooke never worked as a writer for the show 24. But she could have! This story moves at such a quick smooth pace you’re a little over a hundred pages in when you realize it’s still Alison’s first day in town and you’re nearly to the half way mark before the sex gets serious. Ms. Brooke builds tension and excitement into her relationships. If you’re looking for a quick SLAM BAM sex at first sight this isn’t the book for you. But if, instead, you enjoy the flirting glances, teasing touches and slow burn to ecstasy then this probably isn’t your first trip to Desire and even if it is it certainly won’t be your last!
There are still so many stories left to tell in Desire and I, along with an ever growing fan base, are waiting patiently (sometimes not so patiently) to read Beau and Charity’s story along with Hunter, Remington, Michael, Brandon, Lucas, Devlin, Caleb…and about a half a dozen or more. The mark of a brilliant series and a truly talented storyteller is when the characters speak to the readers almost as much as they speak to the author. Ms. Brooke is that talented of a writer and her unique stories and the fantastical town they live in come alive in the pages of this book as well as the six (including the prequel) that preceded it.
It’s not too late to jump on the band wagon to Desire. Once you get here, don’t be surprised when you find yourself wanting to put down roots.
I really like the concept of these books, the town of Desire, and the way they live their lives. Boy, wish it were a real town, I'd go visit and hopefully stay.
With this one I had a bit of trouble even liking the h. I found her to be quite annoying and a bit of a skitzoid. I do like this author normally, but I don't think she's got the feisty h down pat, she struggles with that as her hs can come across as quite unlikeable at times. It's happened in previous books. The author tends to make you feel sympathy for the h because of the situation she is in, rather than because you like the actual person. It makes it hard to get a connection with them.
I also had a bit of trouble with the start of the book, the way the two Hs treated the h. They did settle down in time and I grew to like them, but there was just something missing from the story. It's like there were so many sex scenes in the middle it was padding. I know, lots of sex, it's erotica, but I like a bit of story with my sex and it just seemed there was little story and just sex, which became a bit boring. There are a lot of books just like this one and without a good premise and story, they all seem a little the same. You really can only have sex so many different ways, and you need to have a good story to hang it all on.
Anyway, I'll keep reading the menage Desire books (not so fussed on BDSM) as I like revisiting the residents of Desire and it looks like there are plenty of other stories to be had in this town, lots of characters still to have their story. There were a couple of bits in this book that I hope are being followed up in new stories to come, such as Nat seeming to be not happy. Don't know what that was about, it was mentioned very briefly, but never followed through, so I'm assuming it is a story to come in future books?
I think these books need to come a bit faster as well. I find it a bit annoying she's writing other stuff which seems like not so good stuff to keep us on the hook till another Desire book comes out. I wish she'd just get on with it. I feel like she's risking people moving on. Lots of mentions of other characters with obvious stories to come, so just get on with it already. If I have to wait too long, I'll just move on myself.
Book six in the desire Oklahoma series, this time focusing on Alison Bennett a woman that’s come from a bad relationship. Looking to hide and to heal she comes to desire for the women’s seminar. The last thing she expected was her truck to break Down and meet Dillion Tanner and Ryder Hayes. Her attraction to them, and theirs to her frightens and excites her. Unfortunately the unknown person wreaking havoc on Desire attacks the seminar causing it to close down temporarily she agrees to Ryders and Dillion’s proposition to teach her how to please a man. Her ex boyfriend Danny always cheated on her and called her fat and unattractive so she feels the need to learn how to please men, soon Dillion and Ryder want more from her they want a commitment relationship but she can’t commit to a future she doesn’t know if she has one after a violent altercation with her ex who shoved her down a flight of stairs that broke her hip and was left to suffer In agony for hours, she has to testify against him but Danny’s been threatening her against testifying and saying he’ll it was self defence that she came at him with a knife which isn’t true but his family is important in their community. I loved the characters in this book I liked how the community supported her and was there for her and made her feel welcome in Desire. I just didn’t like how Dillion and Ryder weren’t giving her space she needed I know they’re the typical overprotective males of Desire but I just didn’t like the fact that after one car ride to the hotel they wouldn’t give her space, when she said no to going to dinner Dillion still turned up at her hotel room and broke in when she didn’t answer the door, and instead as soon as he saw her painkillers demanded that she not be alone if she takes another one, they were really pushy to know her business that wasn’t their business to know, not letting her be able to choose another male if she wants, following her from restaurants to bars forcing her to eat telling her no alcoholic drinks, I get they were concerned but I just didn’t like that was how they were acting . But other than that beginning of their relationship I loved reading about them being supportive and determined to help her. This series has been enjoyable and entertaining to read.
I gave this story 2.5 stars. I read this series back to back and that can be a good thing and a bad thing in some ways.
Good I remembered all the characters, their personalities and stories. This became a world fully flushed out in my mind. There was no need to go back to previous books to familiarize myself with the past doings. Each new story also showed glimpses of past characters and showed me how they are doing in their lives.
Bad The scenes seemed repetitive but with name changes. I noticed more inconsistencies in the stories. Often repeated phrases pop out more. Some of the things that I didn’t like in the previous stories continued throughout the series.
This story was good but could have been better for me if it didn’t repeat a couple of things. The threat of ‘SPANKING’! Enough and spank her already!!! Ally whined way too much. I wanted to spank her myself. ;) LOL
I felt that the way the story was written Ally favored Dillon over Ryder, . Ally didn’t spend enough time connecting with just Ryder. To me the story focused more on Ally and Dillon’s relationship. There was a brief food shopping excursion between Ally and Ryder that was fun but that was just talk. She compared Ryder too much with her ex and I didn’t feel that they resolved this to my satisfaction.
Having said all that, overall I did like this series and I’m looking forward to reading Royce and King’s story Submission to Desire coming in Aug 2012. I’m off to read Ms. Brooke’s Dakota series
I love Leah Brooke but the sixth installment of the Desire, OK series was not my favorite. The herione is Allison Bennett with Ryder and Dillon as her men. I have loved every man so far in Desire and if I don't like the book then its usually the woman's fault. This is the case for Raw Desire.
I didn't understand why Allison or "Ally" affectionatly named by Ryder and Dillon, wanted to participate in these seminars in the first place. I think what happened was Brooke had to find some way to get Ally to Desire in the first place and this was the only reason she could think of. She signed up for these seminars at Lady Desire to learn how to please a man when she man in question that she left was abusive and posssesive. And whenever the three had sex afterwards she was like, "this was about me, I'm taking seminar classes to learn how to please you." Another thing I didn't understand. In Desire its about the woman's pleasure not the man's. As long as the woman is happy then her man or men will be too.
I have noticed that all of the "outside" women have the same problem: They don't understand why a woman would willingly want to be spanked. And then when they have experienced said spanking then they're like "oh I understand now. What I can I do to earn another one?"
I found myself more interested in Charity and Beau than Allison, Ryder, and Dillon. Thank heavens Charity and Beau's story is number 8, King and Royce are next!
Overall this was a good installment to the series, but I'm defintely looking forward to the next couple of stories.
Started off interesting but hit a bump and went downhill from there.
And apparently, being bossy is actually being a man. This literally pissed me off on many levels. Being bossy can also mean being a jerk.
“I won’t be controlled. Now, get lost. I want to find someone who’s not so bossy.”
Ryder’s brow went up. “In Desire? Good luck with that. In Desire, darlin’, we call it being a man.”
I felt that Ryder and Dillon were not on the Same page or frequency. It didn't feel like they were in the relationship with Alison together. There was no harmony between them and felt like they were just trying to fufil their goals. Ryder is insecure if whether Alison needs him in her life while Dillon is more concern with getting Alison to stay in Desire while Alison herself is trying to keep things casual, seduce the guys and is insecure about the scar on her hip as well as her body's restrictions. Now, I don't remember being given a description of how gruesome the scar is but it felt like she was overly insecure about it, often questioning the guys if they don't want her due to it.
There were so many faces to Alison that I didn't know who is the real her. In a span of maybe 50 pages, I think she's come onto the guys twice. I like myself some steam but there is really too much sex in this series. And more often than not, I felt that the sex scenes felt rather cold, where no feelings were invested at all. Just lust.
Wished I could've enjoyed this but alas, they failed to capture my interest.
In a moment of weakness, Alison Bennett signed up for a week long seminar at Club Desire, wanting to try to build her self esteem back up after an ex-boyfriend did a number on her. Now on her way to Desire, Oklahoma she is second guessing herself and wondering if there really is a way to please a man and not have them cheat, leave, or treat you badly. When her car breaks down on the outskirts of town, she thinks maybe this is a sign she made a mistake.
Mechanics Dillon Tanner and Ryder Hayes show up to help Alison and are immediately intrigued with the woman who is quite a contradiction. On the one hand she is timid, but then she surprises them when her temper flares. Dillon and Ryder both offer their services if she wants to practice what she has learned, even accepting after the seminar is canceled Alison finds herself falling for both men. She is unwilling to commit to any future when she has an old issue that needs resolving before she can move forward, and she thinks Ryder does not like her other than for sex. Misguided in her ideas about what a real relationship is, Ryder and Dillon plan to make sure she knows they both plan to love and protect her.
Overall a fun read, Ryder and Dillon are instant favorites and Alison is a perfect match. You do get a bit tired of her adamant feelings towards men, but it works itself out by the end.
Desire was calling to me so I to re-read a few, now I'll end up reading them all again while I wait for Beau and Charity! There is something about Ryder and Dillon and Allison's reaction to them that is too real to be in a book. Dillon and Ryder magically expect Allison to fall into Desire's ways and get upset when she doesn't let them do everything for her. They seem to forget that she isn't from there and has had a really bad experience with not only men but small towns as well. They work it all out in the end, with some help from my most favourite, and hardheaded, Desire wife, Erin. The trial scenes are full of emotion, humour, sadness and love, and create a perfect closure to Allison's old life. Allison's act of love at the end to announce her readiness to marry and committ to both men is touching, funny and sweet. It really shows how these three complement each other perfectly!
Raw Desire was slow going in the beginning of the book. The guys pissed me off for acting like cavemen. I can't stand a man who acts like a woman has no other choice then to do what they say. Don't get me wrong, That can be HOT AFTER it is agreed to. I was also annoyed with Alison for just sitting there and taking it.
As the story development really got rolling I did start to truly LOVE this book. Dillon and his sweet love and compassion and rough around the edges playboy Ryder both made for some hot steamy scenes. By the end of the book I was thoroughly IN LOVE with both of them.
I really wish I could do 3 and a half stars, because this book took me much longer to read then it should have. But I did very much love the ending. It was PERFECT! So for that I give it 4 Stars!
I love Brooke's body of work but have to admit, I didn't care for this book. I found that to often scenes were repeated. In fact if she told Dillon and Ryder one more time that it wasn't their business I would have slapped the author. I understand that the author wanted us to feel that Alison felt over powered by these two men, but between the "it's none of your business" and the "I'm going back to the hotel" it was starting to feel like word filler. She could have taken those lines out and made a tighter story line and plot. It was just sad to run into a story of her's that I didn't care for like I did the others. I did enjoy reading about the other characters of Desire OK. I will continue to read her, and hope that this was a one shot deal.
Wow. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Holy hotness batman. This is by far one of my favorites from this series. It was a combination of the dominance I love (without straying too far out of my comfort zone) and the menage that I oh so love to read. There was a solid storyline, scorching hot sex, a sweet and romantic relationship and fabulous updates on all of my favorite characters from the series.
Whew.. I'm still fanning my face after this one. I almost want to read it again :)
Now I just saw that there's a prequel for this series out as well (don't know how I missed it to begin with) and I will be reading that one soon. Need me some more sexiness from Desire, Oklahoma!
OMG, this was so good and so bad. The beginning drove me nuts. I swear if she said "None of your business" one more time I was going to slap her myself. And the discord between the two guys drove me batty. I wish they had talked a little more or something. But I think the main reason I didn't give it four stars was the main girl drove me bonkers from the beginning. I'm sorry, but make up your mind girl. The end was amazing though and brought tears to my eyes. I love Leah Brooke, and I will continue reading her. But please no more like this!
I really liked this erotic tale but thought it was just short of something missing from the story. But hey...I can't quite put my finger on what was missing.
I really enjoyed the courtroom scene more than some of the love scenes, it was interesting and moved fast, where as some of the love scenes seemed forced by the author.
I don't know, might be just me. I also enjoyed visiting the characters in the town and finding out about the things that were going on in their lives more intriguing than the main story.
I have to say, out of the Desire, OK books so far, this was my least favorite. In the others, it talked about how you can't show favoritism in a menage relationship, you start as you mean to go. From the very beginning you could see Alison favored Dillon over Ryder. It actually made me think, what the hell Ryder would put up with that for...I liked the ending, but it didn't make up for the favoritism she showed all throughout the book to Dillon...I love the series overall, it is great reading and I will still read more of this series!
Hope and Ace have been dancing around each other for ages and when they finally meet up explosions happen. With this book it delves a bit deeper into Dom/Sub and taking without safe words and capturing taking. If you are not into this sort of thing I wouldn't suggest reading it. But if u are the way the couple develop to finally getting what both need is great. Great HEA that perfectly suits the couple. Gcv
Another great book in a great series! As someone else pointed out, I'd love Desire to be a real place! Dillon and Ryder meet Alison when they tow her truck into town. She is in town get her mojo back after a violent ending to a terrible relationship. How the three of them finds their HEA takes time but is well worth the read!
My heart really went out to Ryder in this and loved how Dillon stepped aside at times to allow Ryder's and Alison's relationship to grow. Many times menage stories everyone just seems to fall into the relationship too easily but in this we see the work that goes into it and the understanding everyone must have.
Raw Desire is my favorite of the series! Dillon and Ryder found a nice balance between them and Alison. Alison was hiding out from an old abusive boyfriend in Desire. There was much to the plot of this book and yet still hot as heck love scenes. Ryder was very playful and fun. That really helped to temper Dillon's serious attitude.
For most of the book I was really frustrated with Alison, but she grew on me. Ryder and Dillon are hot and more than willing to teach her the ways of Desire. Speaking of, one of my favorite moments of the series was the way the town came together for Alison. It was heartwarming, funny as hell, and just wonderful. I'll definitely be reading this again.
Honestly, this one wasn't my favorite, and I think it's weaker than the other additions to the Desire series. My opinion is that the heroine spends too much time quite literally running out of rooms, buildings and situations to be truly credible.
Lots of sexy time and good story. Love the relationship between the three main characters and how flawed they are. Love that she finds a home in Desire where everyone supports her and backs her up.
