DARK HORSE
When high school student Derrick Booker, the only black student at a posh Orange County high school, is accused of killing his white girlfriend, ex-college football hero and detective Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper into the murder. It doesn't take long for Knighthorse to realize that not all is as it seems at tranquil Huntington High, from a band director who preys on the innocent to a vice-principal with a secret agenda of her own. Not to mention someone's hired a professional killer to keep Knighthorse permanently off the case. As the investigation continues, Knighthorse's personal life is shattered by the discovery of new evidence relating to his mother's unsolved murder, a murder dating back twenty years. Reeling from the discovery, a determined Jim Knighthorse sets out to bring two killers to justice.

THE MUMMY CASE
Private investigator Jim Knighthorse takes on a very, very cold case. When historian Willie Clarke dies of mysteriously of dehydration in the California deserts, ex-football hero Jim Knighthorse is hired to dig a little deeper—and discovers a shocking connection to one of the West's oldest mysteries. Over a hundred years ago, an unnamed cowboy was murdered in the California desert and, due to freak weather conditions, would become mummified within twenty-four hours. Now known to the world as Sylvester the Mummy and displayed in a creepy curiosity shop, Sylvester and historian Willie Clarke will be forever linked in mystery. That is, unless private investigator Jim Knighthorse can survive long enough to untangle one of the West's greatest unsolved murders.

HAIL MARY
In this third book of the series, Private investigator Jim Knighthorse finds himself on the trail of his mother's killer, a cold case spanning two decades. While on the hunt, he takes on a brutal case that takes him into shark-infested waters and deep into the heart of Mexico. All the while, Knighthorse comes closer and closer to finding his mother's killer...and there's going to be hell to pay.

I really enjoyed these books and cannot wait for more. Jim Knighthorse is fun to read and you can tell that Mr. Rain has alot of fun writing these. I've always enjoyed his sense of humor in all his books but he really shines with this series. Jim Knighthorse is a Private Investigator, a really big guy who used to play football for UCLA, he's arrogant, full of himself and is sexy and he knows it. Of course he's also a very damaged person with a very cold father (and I mean really cold - like potential serial killer cold lol). His mom was murdered violently when he was a boy and he found her body. I really like how human all of Rain's chracters are. They're good but flawed. Heroic yet troubled. Each book has it's own story that wraps up nicely while the series as a whole has an over-arc'ing storyline so there's no cliffhangers that force you to purchase more books. Just one good story after another. If you like Detective mysteries then you'll probably like these books. If you enjoy a bit of the supernatural then you'll definetly enjoy most of J.R. Rains books. I find his writing style very refreshing and professional. Honestly I've had more fun reading his books than anything else I have read in a long time. I'm hooked and now a lifelong fan. Great series. I'm just going to close with one word: Zumbooruk!

Modern day tales in an old school private eye style. I loved the hard drinking, big hearted, ex football player- Jim Knighthorse. Each twisty who dun 'it leads to Jim discovering the answers to his own personal mystery.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone who picks up this reasonably priced pulp fiction. Having read them twice I recommend them. Prime example of an indie author with book 1, free on kindle. My finger hit one click on book 2 and 3 before I'd reached the end of the first. There's no finer complement.

As stated elsewhere, I am writing the reviews for the Knighthorse Series (I started singly, not realizing the package was available for review) on the anniversary of Robert B. Parker's death. This seems so fitting as from the first page of the first book I could so easily have believed I was reading from the pages of early Spenser novels.

Mr. Rains is a talented writer, and I am in awe of his prowess in jumping from genre to genre without falling flat.

If you enjoy the writing style of the Spenser novels by Robert B. Parker, you are SURE to love the Knighthorse series. Well written, nicely edited (for the most part, the very few errors were easily ignored and not glaring) and filled with characters that you could enjoy getting to know (whether or not you liked them).

Keep them coming!

I couldn't decide between three and four stars for these three books. They held my interest throughout, had characters about whom I cared, good grammar, interesting plots. They were a little like others in this genre, though, P. I. with a buddy & a girlfriend & even in the third book, a dog. Still, they weren't an exact copy of anything else ... and I did like them quite a bit.

I look forward to reading the next book by this author, so I think I'll bump my rating back up to 4 stars.

I had a hard time getting into this series at first - not that it was bad, just not that good. I kept putting it aside to read other books. The series did improve by book 2 and I finally finished reading all 3 books. Knighthorse just seemed like a dumb jock at first, but when he gave up on football, the story got better. I really liked Jack.

Great read

Jim Knighthorse, great series. I laughed with him and cried with him. good solid stories that will leave you asking for more. Knighthorse is sensitive as well as sassy, full of himself, which I find very appealing. Gets the job done with little effort and a whole lot of class Looking forward to the next book in the series

This trilogy is fun and well written. I read all three quite quickly and enjoyed the characters. He is a cocky fella but quite well developed and fun to keep up with. The secondary story lines dont overwhelm the main plot. I'd recommend these books for great summer reason.

I found the main character very likeable. The mysteries were not fantastic, and there were several things happening all at once. However, I enjoyed the books very much. Each book was very short, but I read all three in a row and felt like I read a good, long book.

Read all 3 books back to back. I've been waiting for over a year for the next installment. Come on JR, get it in gear! Love these books and love Knighthorse's attitude. The character is amazingly smart-assed (is that a word and can I use it here?).

Interestingly funny

I enjoyed reading about Knighthorse. He definitely kept me laughing with his sarcastic sense of humor. I had teary eyes at the end though. But all in all a good book.
